I need to do a presentation, in school, next week, about Linux.
The presentation shouldn't be longer than 10 minutes.
What should I put in there?
I'm by far no newbie in Linux and that's kinda the problem here, since I know way to much, to put it in 10 minutes.

- Where does it run(companies, devices, ...)
- Trivia(tux, the beginning)
- the desktops

- What is it
- Why is it worth talking about
- How is it different from other products in this category

Explain why it is more common in th eindustry than other OS

Show them some points which make clear, that unix is made for developers, like even critical commands dont ask if you are sure to wipe your disk

What class? How computer-literate is the audience?

In general I'd think 10 minutes is just enough to touch on the cardinal points of Linux's history, what it was inspired by, what it was/is in competition against, how it got to be used as much as it is today, and where it is most used today. Don't lose yourself in the details.

if you are ready for the presentation and have time, you could prepare a page with some statements from the halloween documents(eee: embrace, extend, extinguish, fud) and/or antitrust. They are good for the question why ms is so dominant.

Class is "Creation and Roll-Out of applications" (roughly translated from German).
Its a, first year, trade school class.
Tech knowledge varies wildly between the other students.

Wir haben beides in der Klasse.
Bin selber fisi.

Hatte letztes jahr die Prüfung.

Bin ebenfalls fisi. Mit dem Hintergrund schaffts du die Prüfungen. Hatte schlechtere bedingungen und habe es geschafft.

Definitely include the open source principle it practically founded that still lives today.

I had to do pretty much the same, but it was in English instead of German. If you want I can upload my slides somewhere?
