F*CKING DESIGNERS.
Stop sending me your freaking PNG. Don't even dare to FREAKIN' make me use Chrome DevTools to get your FREAKIN' color our of your FREAKIN' PNG.
Give me all your colors in FREAKIN' hex, rgba, or whatever you want.
Give me all the fonts you used.
Give me all the sizes, is it percentage-based? Pixels based? Donuts-based?
I don't give a damn that you think you went responsive-first. Show me the damn responsive mockups. Not just the desktop sized with a note: "Don't worry mate, I made so that it all goes well when responsive".
Oh god. Oh god.
I'm not an artist, I give zero shit about how great it looks.
I'm a programming poet, I want to write code without having to open (or download it first through torrent) the damn photoshop, sketch, or whatever you use.
They take freakin' months to dump a mockup and we have days to make it happen. The pain.
The pain is strong with those damn designers.
Fuck.46 -
preface: I'm fucking exhausted and angry.
Why does everyone assume I know how to do frontend?
Why am I always the design girl?
Why?
You hire me to do backend. STOP GIVING ME FRONTEND DESIGN CRAP. I HATE IT.
AND STOP GODDAMN YELLING AT ME FOR NOT MAKING SOMETHING RESPONSIVE.
I DON'T KNOW HOW.
yes i can learn, but I CAN'T FUCKING PICK UP A SKILL LIKE THAT IN A DAY. Also, I fucking hate it.
STICK IT UP YOUR (min-width: 1400px) ASS.
But seriously, I've spent 13 hours today figuring out completely new things (webpack, susy, express.js, cloudinary, responsive best practices, more webpack) because the boss is in panic-mode (his preferred state) and wants this project released last monday.
guess what? it isn't done.
because i still don't know how to do everything. and ofc there's nobody to ask because there never fucking is.
Seriously, boss-man. hire a fucking designer, and stop being an illiterate sales goon while you're at it. ffs.54 -
A: So are you the programmers of this software?
B: Yeah, I did the front end
A: Oh it looks so fantastic! It is simple, yet beautiful and responsive. Truly great design, you are so talented!
C: I did the back end...
A: Oh, you mean the server stuff?
C: Yeah
A: Niceeee11 -
PM: “I need to you build a responsive web portal for our BaaS clients that is clean and responsive. I’d like you to use Node, CSS Grid and ES6 for it.”
Me: “Sounds like fun.”
PM: “Make sure it works in IE8.”11 -
Client: "I need css3 html5 jQuery based fluid and responsive design UI with d3.js charts..."
Me: which browsers do u have...?
Client: oh for security reasons we only allow IE6 and we have Win XP OS only...
Me: So how closely are u related to Donald Trump..??8 -
Stop talking trash about developer tools!
Vim is FAST
Visual Studio is RESPONSIVE
Eclipse is EFFICIENT
IntelliJ IDEA is PERFORMANT
Android Studio
Xcode is POWERFUL26 -
"Should we make this landing page responsive?"
it's 2016 people, this shouldn't be an option anymore 😂5 -
My recent failure to build a responsive website according to a template tells me I should have worked with CSS a bit more.
The thing is, I write the type of CSS that passes the CSS validation with flying colors, but doesn't work as it should. Am I a minority(I hate that word), in that?
Now I have to redo the website or I'm not passing the exam. Lovely.5 -
This is the first FUCKING time i succesfully made a responsive site without any frameworks on my own, and i couldnt be more proud.
I mean the design sucks ass but thats not the point.26 -
html {
design: responsive;
}
I fucking hate frontend webdeveloping... It was all nice! Vertically aligning items using flexbox etc... But then God said, "let there be cunts who use unsupported browsers!"
FUCKING HELL I HATE IT12 -
First rant.
Managing an app in Canada, came back home to Thailand to visit my parents.
No deployments while you're gone, just bug fixes, boss said.
Landed at 3am, "hey I know we only support desktop but we got new customers only on iPad, make it responsive in a day and deploy." Wtf.
Haven't even seen my parents. In Starbucks.15 -
My company needs a new Website.
ME: Boss, let me do it. It's just a simple static site with a few pages. **Dreaming about a fast and beautiful site**
BOSS: Your time is too valuable. Nobody is paying us for our website. The apprentice will do it.
Few weeks later... Wordpress page! Page loads in > 20sec. Over 150 request for css and js... It's fast on Mobile, because it just breaks and loads only half of the content.
So ashamed working in this Company. No sane customer will ever do business with us, when he sees this stackpile of shit.6 -
When I was looking for an internship...
- Hello, I noticed your cv and you have a great portfolio! Are you familiar with responsive design?
- I have a basic knowledge on that, i am not an expert.
- Ok, can you come for an interview on Monday?
-Sure
Monday morning....
Interview with CEO...
- What's your experience with responsive design?
- I have a basic knowledge on that, i am not an expert.
- Sorry I need someone expert
- But the job is for junior dev and it's an internship
- Yes but man hours of someone to training you will be a cost for me.
- Ok, thank you
(Step before closing the door)Btw you should had check my portfolio, 4/8 websites are responsive.4 -
Just got a reply from a client complaining that the site I did for him is "too responsive".
Never got this kind of complain.
Normally I might get some complains about the site not being fully responsive but never was I expecting to receive a "site is too responsive" complain.15 -
fuck web designers who give 0 effort for design to be coding friendly. and then want the page to be responsive. GO FUCKURSELF.3
-
Creating a personal website:
Step 1: Have 20mins of inspiration.
Step 2: Spend a day writing css and js
Step 3: Realize it sucks because (ugly || bad responsive design || not enough content)
Step 4 Experience no inspiration what so ever for next week
Step 5: Repeat11 -
When did “responsive“ web design become synonymous with “huge f*cking images, big ass captions and needing to scroll vertically forever“?!
Although sites like that may look good on tiny mobile screens, on desktop screens they are just freaking me out. I am not blind, nor am I too stupid a visitor to handle denser paragraphs of text in a more sophisticated kind of layout! Geez...8 -
Classmate: You should use Bootstrap!
Me: Why?
Classmate: It's "the framework" that makes your site responsive.
Me: *a long moment of silence*
Me: *goes home*10 -
Although she hates HTML, I had my girlfriend try to (re)create some kind of interface as a challenge. She remade the Mirror's Edge Catalyst menu - and she did well, I guess. (ofc her code is dirty and stuff - and it's far from responsive, but damn it looks smooth xD)14

Boss: ehi I was checking out our latest product (made in vuejs) it's blazing fast and responsive.
Me : shiny eyes "... Can I refactor our biggest project from angular 1.5 to vuejs?"
Boss: "mmh what can you save from the old code base? "
Me: "mmh.. A lot.. Mmh like.. The CSS!"
Boss : "no"
I hoped!5 -
So I found a bug in Bootstrap 4 today that was causing responsive tables to break. I looked at it for a while and threw a bunch of potential fixes at it, to no avail.
I was about to open a bug report when I stumbled upon the cause...
I spelled “table-responsive” wrong 🤦♂️5 -
Friend: "I made my page responsive"
Maybe the layout is responsive, but your articles are not. Wanna know why?
BECAUSE YOU USE FUCKING IMAGES INSTEAD OF AN HTML STRUCTURE TO DISPLAY YOUR ARTICLES7 -
Ten hours of making a fully responsive website for a gf's university class in only pure HTML and CSS made me realize how much I take frameworks for granted.18
-
I got a design from designer on making a website. I made it responsive all the way to screens as wide as 2000px.
Designer: Why didn’t you follow my design. The site is so wide now on my screen. Can you follow my design?
Me: So limit the site to a max width of 700px as per you design.
Designer: yes please
Me: ok.
[ A week later]
Designer: Just checked out the site on a wide screen. It looks so empty. Can we do something to make the content fit to the window so it looks less empty on a wide screen?
Me: 🤨🖕🏽6 -
"We want a fully responsive web application.
Also, it must look identical to the old one written in VB6"3 -
It bugs the crap out of me that GitHub.com is not fully responsive.
Mobile?
Check
Desktop?
Check
Everything in between?
Nope nope nope
Also, if you want to waste a huge chunk of time, try to google if you can contribute to GitHub.com. 🙄18 -
Well let's do this group rant thing.
I had to build 5 responsive Web applications in 3 weeks. Again Web applications, not websites. I slept a total of 2 hours per night in my car, and would go home every 3 days to shower.
I quit soon after.5 -
"Could you quick make my website responsive?"
..sure, just let me press the responsive button on your website.4 -
Boss:"Build templates that convert our 1000+ pages built for desktop, into responsive ones that work on large screen and phones. "
Finished...Run the company's code scanner and it reports violations of development rules (which was expected)
I go to request exemptions....
"Oh, no you can't use JavaScript or CSS that uses position." -
Client : I told you to make a *Responsive* website
Me : I checked in all my devices and they look perfect
Client : Please check for all my devices.
Devices of my client🤐5 -
Who the fuck doesn't use responsive design. Oh yeah my Job. Thank God I quit Friday. Fuck this old ass dirt company4
-
I've been at my job for about 3 months now. They have me remaking a 10 year old site so that it's responsive and updated to HTML5. well the "senior developer" I'm working under doesn't know squat about responsive design and doesn't know that tags like font are deprecated so he's basically just copy pasting old code into bootstrap grid and calling that "updating the site". Lol did I mention he's still declaring the doctype as HTML 4 too? how did I get stuck here? -_-10
-
my boss asked me a few days ago to get a website responsive, i did that in like twenny minutes and today he came to me, looked at the website and give me a pat on the schoulder "good work"
some days are good days2 -
How some of our country's government websites handle responsive web design:
"Best viewed in Internet Explorer 5.x or higher in 1024 x 768 resolution"5 -
The more I work here the clearer it gets:
I just fucking can't make websites anymore.
I totally can't work on graphics, I can't transform a PSD into responsive HTML.
I fucking despise CSS, computers having different resolutions, having different browsers, doing mobile, doing iOS/safari which is always something extra.
I'm tired of not getting the appropriate resources and then people asking me why it just doesn't look the same.
BECAUSE IT'S NOT MY FUCKING JOB! I MAKE STUFF WORK, I DON'T MAKE IT LOOK PRETTY, I HATE PRETTY THINGS11 -
Ffs Bitbucket, is it really so much to ask for to have a mobile responsive website in 2020 to normally review my pull requests.
Not like we're giving you loads of money for your service already or anything.. 😌6 -
I used to design and program these systems. Some of the first voice responsive ones. I’m so sorry for my crimes against humanity.2
-
@dfox I really wanna thank you for this wonderful app..! An amazing platform to rant, share, laugh, learn ..what not for like minded people...You are so responsive towards users that you brought 'dark side' theme in jus few days ☺17

Jazz keeps me alive. 🎷🎹🥁🎸
I'll need to remember to listen to Jazz while coding. Makes everything so smooth. Even responsive webdesign.7 -
New returning client asked for a free mobile app in return for exposure.
Made a native web app that would open their web page (which is responsive)2 -
You realize you complain too much about shitty websites when even your wife, while surfing from her phone, begins saying "this website sucks"...1
-
Client: I want my site to look exactly like the design.
Me: Of course, but I'm assuming you want it responsive...
Client: yes, I want it to look exactly like the design on all devices.
Me: but that's not how...
Project manager: of course the site will be fully responsive and look exactly the same on all devices.
Me: but...fine.
1 week later...
Project manager: The site looks horrible on mobile!
Me: it matches the design perfectly...3 -
The moment when a client asks to make a website responsive which was developed in earlier 2000. You open the code and its using HTML table structures.4
-
Few months back, one of my good but non-dev friend came to visit me.
He: I've done a website in HTML. Can you help me make it responsive.
Without a second thought, I agreed.
*Opened the file in editor*
<tables> <tables> <tables> <tables>
I kicked him out of my house without a second thought.3 -
Why do so many companies think that frontend work can be stuffed at the end of the product development right before a release is expected.
And to top it off, expect all things to be working, smooth, animating, responsive, crisp, fast with 100 fucking lighthouse score.
🖕 To everyone who thinks frontend work is meh!, Not real programming and similar. Fuck you!7 -
When you build a fully responsive web app and the client IT dept goes and sticks it in an iframe on their Sitecore site 😱
-
"Knowing" Bootstrap or Foundation is not the same as knowing CSS. If you claim to know css and you can't even tell me what media query is or how to make a page even semi-responsive without a css framework, please do everyone a favor and fuck off.2
-
Top 3 times:
1) When I amazed myself by solving a problem using recursion.
2) When I taught myself how to make my a restful api and consumed it using Ajax.
3) When I converted a psd in to a responsive pixel perfect webpage.
Writing code makes me feel I am worth something in this world.1 -
When I design a website I always give my best to make it look modern and responsive. Then I look at a website of a local company and want to throw up.
-
First few times being made to make mobile responsive emails (from scratch, not generators) was an utter psychedelic mess I never wish to have the pleasure of returning too.
I since have had the pleasure of refusing this, as being able to maintain this chaotic mess created which has to be able to work across the major email clients is just a living nightmare.
There’s hell, then there’s a whole other level.1 -
when you make your best at code writting, responsive design, and making everything smooth but the designer get the credit " coz' the design it's what matters" really? i can't imagine browsing a static image..1
-
I just logged into my bank account to see that everything has changed. More basic, primitive styling and in general it is shit. Why am I ranting about this, because I could tell from looking that it has been done to be more mobile friendly. Sure enough I resized the screen and everything snapped into place like it would on a mobile.
Now I've got to put up with an inefficient and more time consuming UX all because some twat in the bank has decided to pander to mobile devices nearly ten years after they've been introduced even though there's already a mobile banking app for that.
Responsive design is like living with a dwarf, because one of you is small, nobody else is allowed to have cupboards on walls anymore. Bastards!4 -
!rant
Stupid customer insists that the website must have the *same fucking UI* even when seen on mobile.
Where the fuck are your eyes, don't you see that a big complex table just doesn't fit the fucking screen of your crappy phone??? Of course it needs to be layed out differently.
I don't know if I should politely reply "no", or just don't give a fuck, deploy it, and then let him realize how much he is stupid.5 -
Dear Mobile Designers,
There is a difference between mobile first and mobile preferred. Stop being lazy and take advantage of desktop real estate. My monitor is not a big ass tablet.
Thank you,
Desktop End User1 -
I see the industry popularizing Machine Learning programs using AI to implement ethical Blockchain as a Javascript framework using Scrum techniques for Big Data Web2.0 in Responsive Virtual Reality for your IoT Growth Hacking operations.3

Warning: I code just for fun.
Today I finished a website and I asked to my friends to tell me what they think about it saying that it wasn't yet properly responsive and that could be some error, so I asked if they could use the computer to view it and all of them sent to me screenshots of the website on mobile.
I hate them.
P.S. Sorry for my english...8 -
Today somebody claimed they have the "copyright" of responsive websites.
First of all, I'm here for almost a year now, but this is my first rant. Hello guys!
(linuxxx, call me)
This didn't happen to me.
So, it begins like this:
Some client called us and said "[INSERT_COMPANY_NAME] called us and said they have the copyright of all responsive websites, asking money."
I hanged up, laughed hard and visited [INSERT_COMPANY_NAME] website and saw this:
- Each website that uses the solution must report the domain name in order to register it.
- If a company undertakes web site design, it is the company responsibility to inform and record.
- Any unauthorized website will be considered unauthorized and a violation case will be opened.
...
Pricing (Currency Converted to Dollars)
1 Website ~$260
2 - 10 Website ~$1300
...
Well, eventually I reported this to government. I unmasked this fraud.
OR DID I?
Their site is saying this now: "We do not serve this to anyone except government now, you are making nonsense and we do not want nonsense."
So I posted it on a forum, asking what can we do.
We are suing this company now. Yeah, I said "we".
PS: If we cannot win this, I'll get the copyright of subdomains.1 -
New client: we have all the source files for our website just need it to be responsive. We paid a lot for it back then, should be easy to for you to work on.
*Sure we'll take on the project
**Gets Flattened PSD file, HTML CSS JS Minified :/2 -
When the so called "css expert" ask you why you're implementing so many things in @media all and (max-width: 800px) because it "doesn't change anything"
I had to teach him about responsive web design and chrome developer tools mobile emulation...3 -
Flexbox.. Where have you been all these years?!
When I initially started learning web development I remember thinking 'someone didn't quite think this through..' about centering block elements etc in the dom. Those days are now over, I still believe in miracles.6 -
FYI. Copied from my FB stalked list.

Trying to communicate with a client's former "web guy" to transfer the clients domain back to my client so I can make changes to the design and make it mobile friendly.
He emails me "it's on Wordpress, so it's already responsive"
Go to double check on iPad and my phone. design is unresponsive... -
Fun fact: Windows loads faster than Autodesk Maya does :/
(By loading I mean going from zero to responsive and usable)4 -
I can do HTML, responsive CSS with JS but there is one damned thing blocks me all the time. What color?
How you guys choose your color on a webpage?14 -
I bought a new carbon fiber bike (I am into cycling the last two years) and it is fantastic. Lightweight, it feels responsive as hell and really easy to sprint on. BUT, I am fucking sick and I can't ride it to train... All I can do for now is looking at it. FML.8

Working on building responsive emailer for a client.
Client: the emailer doesn't seem to work with our email system.
Me: can we have access to your system to do some tests?
Client: No you are not trained in it.
Me: well how are we suppose to fix the problem?
Client: Just keep trying
Me: ......3 -
So today I spent the whole day at work in a website to make it go full responsive. When I finished, the PM told me "Forget about these and those screen sizes, make everything over 1024px a desktop view". There are tablets with screen bigger than just 1024px... Anyway, I got a little mad because I spent the WHOLE day working with those tablets that are bigger than 1024 just to get a " Forget about these and those".
Fine, I'm fine now... I needed to tell this to someone, I know you will understand my pain, guys :)2 -
Okay. I understand that responsive emails are hard. But that's just nonsense... -.-'
Though I think it's my mail client's fault, bit still.6 -
"The role: You will be designing and building responsive emails on a daily basis using HTML5/ CSS3/JavaScript"
Errrrrrrmmmm...5 -
When the marketing exec rings to tell you that they are making a new site for the company...in Wix and that they need to use flash for the "animations".3
-
When a client wants something that's responsive and done within a few days, but the whole thing just goes south.1
-
Some weeks ago I read a rant about someone saying that it's superior uses Word for webpages.
This is sick, it's a fucking word document, with an embedded picture.
http://www.cne.gov.co3 -
As a dev, I never want to personally talk to Clients anymore.
I had this Client for whom I developed a website for a tool he was making. I did the front-end work, did the backend, added the shop and everything he asked for. I showed him everything so he could see for himself what was done and how it all works. He went ahead and tested the finished product to see if there were any bugs.
He came back to me and wanted a call on skype and I joined the call. He shared his screen to show me that when he resizes the browser, the content of it gets bigger and smaller according to scale. I worked so hard to get it responsive and whatnot, and he tells me that it is doing what it is supposed to do. I die inside every time I think about it2 -
— *draws three overlapping blocks of content*
— it’s not going to shrink on small screens. Maybe we can put them in column for narrower widths?
— NO! They should overlap and I don’t care how you’ll do that!
So I stripped a responsive viewport, now the website is not responsive, but yes, we have “kewl and pwetty overwapping bwocks”, congratulations! -
When graphic design agency hands over inconsistent, partly done "desktop" A4-layout made in 2 days in InDesign. "Okey developer guy, make it responsive, magically. Oh, and pixel perfect!!" Design agency takes 40% of the budget. Never again.2
-
So I was building a WPF standalone software for a subject in uni, and our lecturer (the PhD holder guy) told me to make the GUI responsive in my WPF application, and gave me a long lecture about how everyone uses mobile nowadays.1
-
just spent 2-3 hours trying to make a slideshow responsive for mobiles.
position().left returned an incorrect value breaking the whole thing. then jquery animations slowly produced a one pixel discrepancy when everything is animating based on the container width. breaking the whole thing.
Only solution has been to pretend all is fine.
things that make you want to smash something.3 -
DevFolio
This is a simple responsive portfolio website template. You can use it and make it yours by changing things and colours to your style and liking! I made it with a lot of hard work, love and of course with code :) I'm not a professional coder, but I tried my best to make it look cool and yet still keep it simple.
you can view the Github repo at https://github.com/achaljhawar/...5 -
that moment when I browse the Internet via mobile phone and have to request the desktop version (chrome) because that fucking mobile view sucks AF
What a big fail if I choose the desktop view over the "responsive" one on my small device1 -
Went to firefox test pilot and they really got some cool ideas there (e.g. snoozetabs: https://testpilot.firefox.com/exper...) only if firefox devs invested 1% of fucking around with "cool ideas" to maybe getting the dev and responsive tools up-to-date..1
-
Week 1 : Be told website needs to be responsive for all main mobile devices. Code and complete.
Week 2 : Go back to previous work
Week 3 : Oh the MD is doing a demo this week (which was arranged in week 1) of the responsive site, can you change almost everything and add all this new functionality before Tuesday.... -
Client said the images need to be responsive and go full width.
Told her that would make the images massive and we should have a limit in height a cropping enabled.
She told me it should look nice with full width images uncropped.
Fucking designers said the same fucking thing.
Client today: Hey images are huge. Make sure they look nice.
*sigh*8 -
Client complains about his website. Wants it to be more accessible and responsive. Website is older than 10 years and build with frames...7
-
Shows client site in progress on demo server. I tell them not all of the responsive styles on a chunk of the pages are done yet.
Client: Everything looks wrong. If it's not working it should say 'coming soon'
Me: This is a demo server, it will be finished before the production server for sure
Client: Put coming soon up please1 -
Recently one of my friends got an internship in front-end web, today he messaged me "dude, where I can find a responsive template for xyz category." I gave the link to that.
I told, "why you guys not using bootstrap to make responsive, to begin with".
He said, "my mentor said no to that."
I'm like, you guys download a fucking template but can't use bootstrap. wow.13 -
My last boss insisted on using tables instead of divs and then asked me to make it responsive (every damn time). Also, functions that were over 10k of lines.4
-
Me: ill use media queries to make our site responsive (site is not responsive before i got here)
Me: code ...
Me: code ...
Me: done, created a PR
Senior: review... removes all the code and media queries and said. We dont have to use media queries because bootstrap is already responsive.
- BULLSHIT! We still need media queries!!!!!27 -
I hate responsive shit and the MF who coined it! It’s shit work, and I am tired of fucking doing it. Bootstrap sucks and still fucks up. FML!4
-
I still remember when I was 8 years old and used to use "position:absolute"everywhere and use top and z-index to hardcodedly place my elements in my old web projects. I used a lot of <br> and padding + margin were not familiar words to me.
Somehow these projects were responsive, too. Strange times.
Nowadays I avoid "position:absolute", z-index and <br>s like the plague lol5 -
Minimum resolution supported on the project is 1280px
Learn that Product Manager is selling it as responsive
*sigh2 -
"Aww yeah, Bootstrap 4 is coming!"
Shut up bitch! I started 2 years back with web development when I was a noob and since then you are coming.1 -
So a week ago my boss asked me to design + build/write code for our new site from scratch.
Meanwhile the old website they have had for 5 years is still without SSL and looks pre-2000.
It's supposed to be finished and be mobile responsive by tomorrow.
I'm the digital marketer.3 -
Like who the fuck uses tables anymore for websites. like Fuck. what the fuck is wrong with this company. then uses InDesign to make the websites and slices the images in Photoshop. this isn't the fucking stone ages. upgrade your shit. fucking design team wanna be responsive but fucking to lazy. so I have deal with their shit. when they complain about fucking image Sizes. I fucking hate this company.4
-
Why is web development such a headache?
I'm writing a responsive wesbite from scratch. All goes perfect, even cross browser.
It all works, adapts to screen size etc. Nice! About to get this code into production.
Me: I'll test the iPhone 5 viewport size before I push the code...
Responsive Developer Tools:
FireFox: nu uh, there's a magic random 1px margin to every element on your page now, which you cannot find in your css or in the computed tab. It's magical.
Me: weird, what if I change the viewport size to the iPhone 6's dimensions?
Issue persists.
Me: hmm, what if I add or substract one fucking pixel from the viewport width or height?
FireFox: What 1px margin? Don't know what you're talking about ... There never was one...
Me: ok, weird (sets viewport size back to the iPhone 5 format for testing)
FireFox: I present to you: the magic random 1px margin.
I'm at a loss. I really am. Been clicking and unclicking almost every responsive part of my css I could find for this page and it just doesn't want to work persistently. And I swear to god that it worked a week ago in that exact viewport size. It's so frustrating.31 -
Debugging that responsive website and can't figure out where it is applying the viewport for the mobile layout. Cookie isn't set to view full site, nothing in html....checking Google's Dev Tools even in incog mode...until I notice Chrome is zoomed in....CTRL-0 = fixed. Dammit. Zoom on page just wasted 5 mins. I want my 5 mins back!
-
Wordpress and CSS...
REEEEEEE
God i’m pissed at this shit!!
Don’t even get me started on responsive design
When you have to override 48297 rules just to change a fucking text color
FUCK !important
YOUR !important
CSS !important15 -
Firefox's Responsive Design Mode is shitty. After 2,3 refreshes, it just stops loading new changes. And hang like a drug overdosed whore who got continuous gang bang.
It just stops.
I have to turn it off and on again to be able to use it.5 -
Without CSS, all websites are perfectly responsive and look great on any device or screen size. We break them with CSS, then need to fix them... ponder that a bit.
By Timothy Smith on CSS-tricks.com (https://css-tricks.com/hmtl-css-and...)10 -
WTF with all this full screen popup to promote a mobile app on so many perfectly functional mobile/responsive websites. If I'm the developer of that mobile website and asked to add that kind of popup to my work, I'd be offended.1
-
Some people think that web development is easy because they use framework for responsive designs, they dont know the struggle of manually using media query in css.
-
I always spend a lot of time thinking about the responsiveness of my designs, often I get stuck for some time due to random images, backgrounds etc not fitting the device size and then I check other sites to get inspired and get disappointed and sad how most developers just don't give a shit and either the background just gets cut off, images just hidden instead of aligned for example to the left further down the content and so much more, am I the only one spending so much time into getting my sites/designs perfect across any device and screen size?
-
Fuck Ajax and it's stupid fucking side effects. A language should not have inherent side effects. "Oh, you like responsiveness?! How about I just remove all your events after a post?! How about that for responsive design ya lil bitch!"3
-
The magic number it took me forever to remember is 768px for media includes. What's your magic number?8
-
*[style*="width:"],*[width] {max-width:100% !important;}img[width] {height:auto !important;}
* !important feels so hacky but it works!
Old site with ancient code and multiple people not versed in css or even newer html. Decided, ah F it, just workaround that and * all the things!1 -
Hello guys im observing since some time your rants.
Here are people which are quite experienced.
I want to start as Freelancer in Germany, mostly for Web development.
All of my Customers are looking for a neat looking, responsive and fast Website.
What should I use and what Templates/framework I could take as a blueprint for the future websites.
Any suggest are welcome!8 -
Constraint Layout is the best thing Google has ever made for responsive Android design, when it works.
Half the time it suddenly stops finding any elements I want to attach my selected one to, so it can't constrain what I want it to constrain.
A restart fixes it though...1 -
The first time I made fun of a customer of mine was when she took a ruler to see if the responsive website was identical to the mock up1
-
Noo, it doesn't have to be responsive, that's not in the specs we agreed on. It just has to look&work perfe<khmm> decent on any phone and tablet.
- sneaky client1 -
When you realize that the non-native web-based Spotify App for macOS is faster, prettier, more responsive, more robust and more useful than the native Apple Music app... Good job, Apple.3
-
New project.
Boss and customer decide it'll be used only on desktop devices, so they told me it doesn't need to be responsive.
Two weeks into development at a jour fixe:
Boss: "How's the responsiveness going?"
Me: "U wot?!"3 -
Are you even a web developer if you haven't banged your head on the desk coz the carousel refused to be responsive while you were busy correcting 15 other misalignments?5
-
Dear Teachers,
Please learn to make your PowerPoints in the aspect ratio you plan to present them in. I'm really not a fan of black borders.
Sincerely, Angry Student
Maybe I need to invent responsive PowerPoints...1 -
God damn I hate that "smart" and "convenient" autoscrolling to focus areas which has kind of exploded on webpages, most of the time just fucking the user over while one is trying to read something or generally use the site.
Pages bouncing all over with shitty response, who the fuck thought that were a great idea, they should've been put in the ground as a Thank you.1 -
TIL that our creative design team that produces our web designs/layouts are all print designers. They were stumped when I gave them a wireframe mock up as the base for a website design for the first time, with no defined pixel measurements.7
-
I've been using Bootstrap for my websites for a long time now. I'm looking to change things up a lot on a couple of them. Anyone have any recommendations for some great bootstrap alternatives?7
-
Enterprise software that sacrifices desktop UX for responsive html rather than best of both worlds.1
-
Yo , people
I have never used bootstrap and idk if i plan to
I always built a website from scratch , made it responsive and so on
Is it a bad thing?
I know it seems like i waste time but it helps me knowing exactly where to go and what to change, ez visualization for me.
So what do you prefer?10 -
Today I learnt that I'm much more productive if I get a constant loop of feedback on my tickets and stuff. Feels better that way.
Edit: I'm working with a new coworker from QA and she's more responsive than the others. I get my feedback fast and timely and this makes it way easier to work7 -
I aim to be web designer...
a little backstory, I've always been ignorant towards how much effort it takes to design one responsive website without frameworks or libraries and now that I know it's not a child's play (at least not for me), I aim to be one, I mean I look some websites' media query rules and they go down till smart watches now a days1 -
I wonder if they thought about responsive design back in the 90s while resizing terminals in desktop computers..2
-
!!!!!!!!RANT!
today (~9h ago) i was in college lab, alone, and few minutes later 2 seniors came in and sat behind me and started working on some webpage and they were talking about HTML and CSS and all of a sudden one guy says "how can we make a page responsive?" and other guy goes "we use JavaScript"
my brain: "wtf, JavaScript?? are you nuts? responsive pag- are you fucking cra- why am i even- why the fuck would you say Jav- why God why??”
i had to get that off chest...6 -
Our new project is a responsive mobile-first web system coded with HTML, CSS, jQuery and AJAX that connects to MySQL, but the main tasks runs trough a huge application written in Visual FoxPro, per client request...the web version could manage the whole business but no, it has to be Fox.
Oh, and it's the version 6, not even using the latest version 9 with all it's "improvements". What are we, back to the past milleniun?3 -
So I was looking around for some Jackrabbit related docs to learn more about it. Then I clicked some link and the official site opens. Wtf Apache?
What is this? Babys first responsive site?2 -
When your boss finally gives you the wifi access codes to check the responsive design on your phone without killing your personal 3G quota...2
-
god i hate css, html, bootsrap, anything that requires you to be creative. its mentally exhausting. and time consuming. it takes hours just to get those divs aligned and responsive wtf25
-
I hate front end !
My friend just tried to help me with it and I was happy to be relieved of the shitty work!
He didn't make it responsive ! And now I am back to square 1. 😑6 -
So...
Just searched for *.io websites... thought there'll be somehow interesting things - eeeh... nothing incredible 😴
More or less just abusive usage... 🤓
But one site - beefree.io - is about an email editor for responsive mails. And I don't know why (someone really needs that - over 1.000.000 users as stated on their site) ... but there is nothing that doesn't exist.
Weird world.15 -
I hate people ranting about “Uhh thats not responsive I sent a screen how I imagined it.“
Open Screen, 1918x703 px WIDE.
Explained for an hour that thats not fucking responsive. Nobody could see or read that even if I were to implement. Responsive fucking means text breaks BELOW the damn pictures to make it readable. I will never fit that on an iphone or something unless he pays extra so i can perform dark magic to force vertical view on some devices and put 100 alert functions that the device is not supported by the site.
Im so mad fuck him and fuck me1 -
!rant
I have been testing out Manjaro and I have to say I'm impressed! Im currently running it on a 2009 hp pavillion(1.8Ghz CPU 2GB ram) and it is super responsive and even ran intellij! Gradle took a while but that's to be expected!
Should I switch my main os from Ubuntu to Manjaro? I need reasons for and against!12 -
When you're trying your hands with Machine learning but get stuck with responsive layout in one of your side projects. Ultra confidence killer.2
-
finished making website and all its features work across Chrome, Safari, and even IE11 and Edge..... but not Firefox... been like this for the last 3 sites that I have done. Mostly CSS3 related. Some CSS3 hacks are required for that browser... why are you the odd one out now Firefox??? That used to be the job of IEs!!!17
-
First time developing an Android app using Android Studio. I wanted to see how it is to make a mobile app. It's very simple, doesn't wow with design and calculates price discounts. First time using Java too, which was cool. Biggest annoyance? Making fields and buttons "responsive" to different screen sizes!1
-
Why install a native app to use devrant on a mobile phone? Your website is not totally broken in a mobile browser. Responsive web is possible in 2020, believe me and give it a try!11
-
CSS! after days thinking about this and using chrome dev tools to find the magic numbers ( thank arrow keys) i finally made this thing responsive. The magic is in 53px. Thanks to javascript i also did what seemed almost impossible for me in CSS. Phew!!!2
-
Wtf? Why so much space at Left?
Someone at google don't know how to use css...
I think that is a wrong padding-left
Rendered in firefox Desktop
In full screen window
Chrome is the same
But the view is good in responsive mobile/tablet view1 -
I am a frontend dev but please don’t trust me 100% with responsive, works in every browser, animation heavy, top of the line, UIs.
Also I don’t know how to work with Wordpress.
Also don’t ask me questions about Webpack, Node, or anything related to builds/configs. (I will be happy to google search my answers for you tho)
But I am a frontend dev.5 -
"We don't have a responsive layout so just do what you think is best"
(builds responsive layout)
"This responsive layout doesn't work as we expected"
(sends 5 pages of notes on how mobile layout should work) -
Web developers, how long does it take for you to make a responsive web page?
Let's say the page is a fancy one with lots of images and gradients and buttons and wavy section dividers with little to no consistency.
It's been 2 days and I'm still far from completing one.15 -
* sees mock-up in the provided design PDF, notices a diagram that could be made with CSS
* writes responsive CSS for the boxes and makes them more appealing than in the original design
* feels proud
Skip to today, it got assigned as an 'issue', got asked to NOT do it like this, and instead extract a png from the PSD and use that instead. Despite me saying not only is it going to look bad because it's not exactly going to be responsive the way they want it to be.
Bootstrap doesn't magically make images responsive, goddammit...2 -
When your sales guy sells your web based platform as an app when you've just finished making it responsive for mobile devices......2
-
The world has move to a dev culture of making good reliable RESPONSIVE and immersive programs.
But bank apps and system still suck5 -
When you have to make a website responsive and you don't have access to the main CSS file, every single line of css you write contains
"!important".9 -
That moment you realise you fucked up, but don't have the courage to tell your team leader that you fucked up.. Especially when you're atleast 30% into a project.1
-
I genuinely start off with good intentions for the client by trying to create a simple responsive website for them. What they want on the other hand is fancy images.3
-
Pretty annoyed with making my first deployed website responsive. Made certain changes but still appearing weird.......
-
Frontend devs who mindlessly use bootstrap because everyone does and end up using only the responsive grid component, which they mess up completely in the end as well3
-
ffs there needs to be a tool to find that one non-flexible container which keeps your website from being responsive..
-
Which smartass frontend dev thought it would be a good idea to put a cancel button just over the captcha button? Or the website just isn't responsive...4
-
I remember when first iPhone came out, The only broken shit while browsing was panning and pinching(most of the pages did not have responsive design) but they worked. Now every fucking webpage is mobile friendly, except all of them are fucking broken! You don't have safari or Chrome? Then fuck you! Here you have this BIG fucking button that does not work. Fuck all SPA!1
-
A junior front end developer colleage of mine doesn't know the meaning of aspect ratio and doesn't understand why he needs to understand it or why is it important for responsive designs.3
-
I've had enough. I can't handle those bad designs layouts anymore. It is getting on my nerves to receive designs from "professionals" that don't think about responsive layouts, correct alignments, grid, vector shapes, use 6 different font families, and have graphics placed in the most wrong places.
Oh, and let's not forget that such design should be coded in 15h. Sure dear client. Keep dreaming, idiot. -
For the longest time I've had trouble trying to get my background images full screen viewed and responsive for some components while learning angular 2. Then some one typed this in the CSS
Min-height: 100vh; for height
It felt like I had a heart attack and spontaneous orgasim at the same time.2 -
It's amazing that SocialBlade is still not mobile responsive...
Are there even any developers working there?
Not anyone who tells them to make the site responsive?
Can someone explain? -
After a whole weeks working, I understand that developing a responsive html email for outlook is something totally different with doing the same thing for other mail boxes.9
-
client argues that a responsive site is the way to go for a large e-commerce site despite user feedback and user testing proving otherwise..
-
Designer: I hate responsive websites.
Me: Come to the other side and see and feel the pain of responsive websites.4 -
Just hate it when managers assume it takes the same freakin time to implement the same feature on a native app and a fully responsive web app! FML!
-
It would be a pleasure for me if you guys would give me a rate for a website ive just uploaded to the live server. It's responsive but german. If you have better options, for some functionalities, i am open for better ideas.

Recommendation for mobile css queries?
I want to use one or two queries. Not more. And I find lists of way too many.
Is there a guide that covers like.. two? Two additional widths you should design? How do you do responsive webdesign?5 -
You know what is ridiculous?
That another app made by Google for iOS (Google News in this case, but the same problem is present also on Google Tasks, etc.) isn’t correctly responsive...4 -
1. Make all my websites responsive on every device and on all the browsers automatically
2. Optimise each and every line of code that I write
3. Make sure I would never have to look at my duck again2 -
Motherfuck oh clients! My goodness their requirements.
They want a tiny part of an app load inside an iframe in a different app and have the data communicate both ways and the ui should look seamless and mobile responsive too.
What the actual fuck? iframe in 2016 ? Seriously?5 -
Today is the dealine for the project. Monday is D-day basically. WHY is the manager now asking to see me code? I don’t need any more stress then i already have.
Asshole, I told you if i’ll do it your way we’ll have responsive issues. Now deal with it you f*ckhead -
This is stupid, how am I supposed to show my work projects in my portfolio if my boss insists on using a fucking non responsive css library.1

On one hand, I have no motivation to make an old system responsive
On the other hand, the sooner it's done, the sooner I have nicer projects -
I need some help people. Need a good tutorial to understand Bootstrap grid and responsive framework. I have always worked on Media queries before. Couldn't find a good tutorial.11

Coworker is using the WYSIWYG to make a responsive template for his content instead of creating a theme tpl file for the page. :(

Wanted to use WordPress for a landing page with a knowledgebase, installed wp, remembered how shit it is and deleted it right away. It never felt so good to press that "Delete database" button.
I'll stick to a responsive theme for now. -
What does it take to build a good looking and responsive website?
I'm familiar with basic html, CSS, Javascript but every time I try using any js based framework I get confused as which one to use. Where to start. Any tips please?4 -
web devs... what are the commom screen sizes you use for responsive design. I used the bootstrap grid but there are some tablets which resolution is higher than a normal conputer and that tablet is considered as a computer. Is there any css-only-way to make a difference between desktop, tablet and cellphone?4

Easiest responsive page. No js

In terms of developing:
Best: made a responsive web app that connects to a desktop software and allows to make orders for providers.
Worst: the company for wich it was developed shows no signs of implementing that app now.3 -
Does anyone know of any patches to make the android UI more responsive. Like the iPhone just better? I really think that would be the patch to ruin apple for good!10

wanted to write my own JavaScript base calendar date picker instead of using the jquery one. really hate the idea of requiring jquery in my compiled script just for the calendar.
but the thought of mobile respobsifying the calendar UI kills me.... then there's cross browser support 😫3 -
First off hello everyone, I'm new here. I wanted to ask what is your opinion on Flutter ? I recently started learning Dart and Flutter and so far it is going great. Apps are very responsive and fast but they are too large. What do you guys think should I continue with Flutter or should I start native ?3

FE assignment: "Make app that fetches data, shows it in table, lets you update and delete, persists data locally, has nice responsive css and tests, follows best practices. Spend no more than 2-3 hours". I scaffolded everything with chatgpt and still couldn't finish it. I'll just send them an email that I withdraw from the process.3

Being a front end develop of mostly PHP projects and also designer of everything for the company, probably best that I use OS X most of the time.
My place doesn't agree. They realise that I can't use Windows because it's support of PHP is laughable at best. However, they don't understand how difficult it is find a good quality piece of Ubuntu software for designing responsive websites. It just doesn't exist as far as I'm aware.23 -
So you wanna sign up to our useless newsletter? You really do? Alright just fill out , and . Thanks for taking your time!
Why are some devs just so fucking lazy :|1 -
The way the responsive design says that Google has a "Guide for Existing"
God, I need one of those!2 -
While at a *coding* conference, with lots and lots of techy devs in attendance, many using mobile devices, a vendor decided to hold a hacking contest. Hack their little problem, get a t-shirt. Hack their big problem, get a bigger prize. I go to their website and notice:
1) they force me to create an account to do either problem.
2) the fucking bag of salty dicks can't even manage to make a responsive website. I mean, I could have fixed that for the cocksuckers while at the conference. But no, the shit company comes to a place full of devs and has a shitty website. Like, make your eyes bleed like a leaky sack of vaginas, bad.
I solved their little problem as fast as I could and deleted my account out of spite. -
I just want to blow off steam here,
Its hard to make a dynamic form with just 2 and a half day of time considering the coding for backend and front end and also mobile responsive. Its very frustrating and the same time im dissapointed in my self but i think its not entirely my fault its hard to do all those task with such little time and a lot of things to consider -
I have never seen such a requirement, but unlike a lot of you guys, I haven't worked professionally as yet. Have any of you seen anything like this?
"The Prototype at this stage is responsive, following a minimum width spec of 320 pixels. *The prototype interface is fully operational using Browser Zoom levels from 75%-150%*. Layout must conform to the grid at these settings."2 -
Designer wanted to help me making a certain part of the new layout responsive. After about 1.5 hours of struggling with a CodePen he comes back to me and says: yeah i can’t i would set it up in a totally different way.
Two weeks before that he suggested that i would rebuild it in this exact way. -
This is what my co-worker sets the DynamoDB table to make the web app reasonably responsive.
And keep in mind we haven't shipped it to any customer yet.
Geezus farking christ.3 -
I thought the web standards finally are a bit okay to work with. Just learnt that writing responsive HTML email templates really really feels like writing code which we did in the previous century. Tables. Tables everywhere. It's worse than table inception5

Are CSS media queries very messy or am I just incompetent? Does anyone have any alternatives to it?
I find it very hard to make decent responsible pages. They either look awful or their source code is just a disgusting mess.6 -
Talking over an assignment for an angular app a couple of months ago: responsiveness was not important and not a part of the scope. Its for internal use and nobody will do this on his phone.
Today the designer, next to me (on his iPad). With a look on his face like he sees water burning, why isn’t it responsive?2 -
Ok......so we working on this system with a friend

Any recomendations of CSS framework? I'm currently looking at Bulma (for some reason Vue tutorials are using it a lot), but lacks a little bit in documentation.
What I'm looking:
- Minimal size
- Responsive
- Flexbox based
- Not material (please)
- Without annoying dependencies (OPTIONAL)
- Good or some documentation7 -
Hello everyone,
I wanted to share with you a useful resource. There are many frameworks that help to create responsive and flexible web apps.
According to me, Bootstrap 5 is the best framework as it offers many features such as experimental support for CSS Grid and offcanvas in the navbar. Also, a new placeholders component, horizontal collapse support, and many more.
As we all know, it is an open-source framework that offers responsive structure and styles for building new projects and websites.
Here, in Today's rant, I am sharing some useful Bootstrap Practice projects that will help you to learn and sharpen your skills as a developer.

You can check the above blog for more detailed info.

Every time I turn on device mode on Google Chrome devtools I lose my session (I'm assuming it deletes the cookies).
1. Is this just in my local setup?
2. Is there a way to keep my current session every time I turn on/off device mode on Chrome?
3. What other solutions would I have to do live tests of responsive design on my website?
Thanks!5 -
I remember one interview. He asked me to get in and take a seat. It was followed by a very obvious question asked too often "about yourself".
I litrally talked about my self (he was very responsive) for about 150-180 seconds and when I just ended. He was like "Dear, you should always start with your name" [LOL] dafaq!1 -
