Job advertisement of the biggest software company here at our train station in Dortmund, Germany.

Whenever i see "Create an app without coding" advertisement on facebook, first thing that come in mind is "Fuck a girl without a dick"4
-
"Personalized Advertisements":
No Amazon, I'm not interested in buying any of these phones, I just bought a new one five days ago, remember? You sold it to me! And stop recommending the same book I already got five YEARS ago!
YouTube, why are you always showing me the same ad about an app I already own and use regularly? And why the FUCK do I you show me the new trailer of Star Wars Ep8 as an ad video before the actual video of the new Star Wars Ep8 trailer?
Audi, I am an university student, barely able to pay my rent, why are you telling me to buy your newest car? How do you expect me to afford this?
Monster, why exactly are you showing me job offers as "Technical Product Designer at company X" for which I'm not remotely qualified or even interested in?
Neither do I have 5000£ (I live in Germany, at least match the currency, ffs) to invest in some suspiciously promising stock market schemes, nor am I in any need of rheumatism pills or a hearing aid (I am 19). I cannot afford or want any Rolex watches and PLEASE, I don't know why you think I would, but I really do not need a special new and innovative brand of tampons, my dick is doing fine, thanks.
"Hot local singles near {my actual location} want to fuck!
At least there are still some ads you can trust to be relevant...14 -
Went to go help someone with their wireless printer.
Client: my printer doesnt work.
Me: okay let me take a look at it.. (took a look at it and saw the power core wasnt plug in)
So it seem like you forgot to plug in the powercord. Do you by any chance have it with you?
Client: well it said it was a wireless printer so i didnt think i would need it. I threw it away.
Me: well yeah wireless as in you dont need a usb core to connect it to your computer you can just do it through wifi.. but it needs a power source in order to turn on..
Client: well then why did it said that its a wireless printer if it needs a cord? Thats false advertisement.
Me: Sir the printer is a wireless printer but you cant get power wireless you need a power source in order to turn on the printer.
Client: you probably dont know what youre doing.
Me: *its okay hes only 79 years old*8 -
I need a site with seo and advertisement.
The page should make about 750€ per month. I will only pay after site is complete and pays out.
You will get 150€5 -
How can they think that anybody falls for those ads?
Honestly. = != ==
Also: German and English mixed? Choose one, best stick to English if you want to look serious about looking for developers.
What does Job == interested even mean? The job is interested in the candidate?

Watching the Dutch government trying to get through the public procurement process for a "corona app" is equal parts hilarious and terrifying.
7 large IT firms screaming that they're going to make the perfect app.
Presentations with happy guitar strumming advertisement videos about how everyone will feel healthy, picnicking on green sunny meadows with laughing families, if only their app is installed on every citizen's phone.
Luckily, also plenty of security and privacy experts completely body-bagging these firms.
"It will connect people to fight this disease together" -- "BUT HOW" -- "The magic of Bluetooth. And maybe... machine learning. Oh! And blockchain!" -- "BUT HOW" -- "Shut up give us money, we promise, our app is going to cure the planet"
You got salesmen, promising their app will be ready in 2 weeks, although they can't even show any screenshots yet.
You got politicians mispronouncing technical terminology, trying hard to look as informed as possible.
You got TV presenters polling population support for "The App" by interviewing the most digitally oblivious people.
One of the app development firms (using some blockchain-based crap) promised transparency about their source code for auditing.... so they committed their source, including a backup file from one of their other apps, containing 200 emails/passwords to Github.
It's kind of entertaining... in the same way as a surgery documentary about the removal of glass shards from a sexually adventurous guy's butthole.
Imma keep watching out of morbid fascination.... from a very safe distance, far away from the blood and shit that's splattering against the walls.
And my phone -- keep your filthy infected bytes away from my sweet baby.
I'll stick with social distancing, regular hand washing, working from home and limited supermarket trips, thank you very much.26 -
1. Buy a connected armwrist that tells you the time, how good your sleep is, your heartbeat and stuff like that
2. Manage to loose the cable that charges the device
3. Get mad
4. Finally decide to buy a new one after digging in your 50 m^2 flat in vain
5. Your stuff is coming in 12 years, I mean days. Have a lot of advertisement of this particular cable wherever you go for the next two weeks
6. The thing finally gets delivered. Let's not be stupid like before and put it in a logical place, like permanently plugged in the usb port above my computer tower.
7. Find the supposed lost cable at said place.3 -
You want to know what really grinds my gears?
When you are about to tap on some link or whatever on your phone and the app/website with its 8th sense sees that and right before you touch the touch screen, it either moves the content or displays an advertisement so you inADvertently tap it instead of what you wanted to tap.
I hope the people responsible for this sorcery get mutilated and eaten by a horde of zombified liliputs.1 -
Did you read about the new Digital Services Act and Digital Markets Act laws of the European Union, that will go in effect in 2022? Pretty neat stuff, more transparency, user rights and a tool against internet monopolies.
"Very big online plattforms" must submit reports on freedom of speech, abuse of human rights, manipulation of public opinion.
EU assigned scientists will gain access to trade secrets like google search or Amazon recommendation algorithm to analyze potential threats.
The EU can fine serial offenders 10 % of their yearly income. And break up companies that stiffle competition.
Internet companies like Facebook will not be permitted to share user data between their products like Instagram and WhatsApp.
There will be a unified ruleset on online advertisement. Each add must have the option to find out why this add is shown to the user.
Unlike the GDRP data protection rule the two acts will be valid at the Union level. So that there won't be any exceptions from single member states.
Let's hope this leads to a better Internet and not things like cookie pop ups 😄

YouTube, I called it. I freaking called it! This is an old story, it was back when Cryptominer via browser became a thing.
Me: "How long do you thing it will take until YouTube advertisements will contain cryptominer?"
IT WAS A F*CKING JOKE YOUTUBE, I DIDN'T KNOW YOUR ADVERTISEMENT POLICIES ARE REALLY THAT BAD!
A month later, after I said it to an friend, I had increased lags with literally anything I was doing. After some days of research (because I didn't pay that much attention to it at first), I could pin down the cause to my YouTube tab in my browser (because I listen to 24/7 music livestreams). And I was like:
Me: "I bet this is because of cryptominer. I bet this is because of cryptominer."
Guess what. About two weeks later YouTube confessed. Cryptominer ads were possible.
I wonder how much money these companies made...4 -
I love the skill requirements section of a junior Dev job advertisement.
To summarise "Basically you'll need all the skills and experience of a senior, but we are gonna pay you much much less". 😔1 -
Google Having ads in Television is like a Advertising Company Advertising to advertise it's own platform of advertisement.4
-
Another crappy job advertisement this time courtesy of Glassdoor: get spammed to death by job ads.
So it says graduate software engineer but they want someone with ideally 1 -3 years of B2 experience, seriously how is this fair?
Like with my other job ad rants:
What a fucking joke, lol

"If you wanted to improve your X skills, then the Y video course is exactly what you need"
No, fuck off with your promoted bullshit, if your course needs this kind of advertisement, then I can already hear your fucking heavy accent and lisp throughout a fucking shitty 360p video. -
Kind of disappointing that devrant rewards and attracts bot'esque accounts for exclusively re-posting facebook memes - with stickers.
Those accounts are even as bold to constantly spam everywhere "HOW LONG DID IT TAKE FOR YOU TO GET THEM?" as if they are entitled to next day delivery, feels wasted and especially insulting to people that actually use and flourish the platform.
Not really great input nor constructive criticism, more a vent, because I know that it's the "maybe some of the shit will stick" idea - maybe some of those shit posters will turn to actual content creators on here or them being free advertisement to maybe less useless beings.20 -
!dev - cybersecurity related.
This is a semi hypothetical situation. I walked into this ad today and I know I'd have a conversation like this about this ad but I didn't this time, I had convo's like this, though.
*le me walking through the city centre with a friend*
*advertisement about a hearing aid which can be updated through remote connection (satellite according to the ad) pops up on screen*
Friend: Ohh that looks usefu.....
Me: Oh damn, what protocol would that use?
Does it use an encrypted connection?
How'd the receiving end parse the incoming data?
What kinda authentication might the receiving end use?
Friend: wha..........
Me: What system would the hearing aid have?
Would it be easy to gain RCE (Remote Code Execution) to that system through the satellite connection and is this managed centrally?
Could you do mitm's maybe?
What data encoding would the transmissions/applications use?
Friend: nevermind.... ._________.
Cybersecurity mindset much...!11 -
Somebody ranted about austria searching for hackers? well germany does too

I don't understand why people are making a fuss about Facebook.
It's free to use, the amount of users kept increasing (thus the cost of maintenance) yet the company kept getting bigger and bigger. Obviously they're not making all their money off the advertisements on Facebook's own website.
So why are people so surprised that they're "selling" user information?
This is really funny to me. Especially the media joining in saying that it makes all your information available to everybody when they're actually talking about the fact that the majority of Facebook users have their profile set to public and they can be easily found with a simple Google search.
People are so fucking hypocritical it makes me want to puke. If you don't want anybody to know what you posted, just don't fucking post it on a SOCIAL MEDIA in the first place.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that facebook is all flowers and love, they clearly didn't handle this situation well. They could have done something about this whole situation when it started instead of waiting for things to blow out of proportion.
However, people are just being assholes now. I highly doubt that they're reading all chats nor are they sending it over, they're probably just sending out some words you mention often so that it is pertinent for advertisers (ex. If you use the word computer next to buy, then maybe that triggers something). I could talk extensively about it but I'm way too lazy, the point is, they most likely aren't sending the nudes you sent to advertisers because that does not provide any benefits.
If you don't like Facebook, don't fucking use it. Delete your account and shut the fuck up. When you screw up in real life, there's no takesies backsies, why the fuck do people think it doesn't apply online? The government gathers up quite a lot of information on you yet I don't see you crying your eyes out.
Why the fuck do you care so much if an advertisement is tailored to specifically? Yeah, you talked about dildos and now you see dildo ads from Amazon, not happy? Just download adblock and shut up. If you're gullible and the moment you see an ad about single women in your area you click on the ad because you want to get laid right now, that's your problem.
Don't want people knowing about some aspects of your private life? Don't share it online.
Stop acting like people are any better at keeping secrets, I'm sure you had some people leak your secrets at least once, yet I doubt you sued them and you brought them to court.
===========
I'm sorry about this, it's just that Facebook is all over the news and I'm getting sick of it.
Also, I hate facebook, I'm not necessarily defending it, I'm more pissed at the medias for blowing this situation out of proportion.22 -
Bought an ebook that turned out to be a .DRM file
...that only worked with that publisher's Android app
......that only works with Android versions < 6.0 (I use Android 9)
Tried it anyway, which among incompatibility issues, was raising a certificate error. I contacted the publisher about it
..."sorry, the author did not give us permission to sell this. You can have your money back"
What
Why are you even advertising it on your website as a publisher then??7 -
Is this seriously the devRant website? It has an advertisement for the mobile app that takes up 60% of the screen?!?!
20 -
Unpopular opinion: I actually tend to not use adblock as much recently, and think its reasonable to have non aggressive ads on websites, and support content creators. Also, people here that show zero tolerance policy towards any advertisement are really interesting to me to say the least.10
-
Absolutely detest some devs push their advertisement as fucking VIDEO in mobile webpage. There goes my monthly data quota for that silly ads. Fucking unethical.5

Waiting for the day when Presidents will have to watch a 7min advertisement before launching nuclear missiles.5

Crazy weather in here. There is a little sandstorm. It's pretty windy, even the outdoor advertisement letters are moving and the sky is brown :v
The thing is that, in order to go back home, I must walk 4 or 5 blocks (from the place one of my co-workers can leave me), but with this wind I'm afraid of getting sand in my eyes (I don't have glasses). Another option is to take an Uber to my house, but it takes too long to arrive to the office.
What can I do? Do I take the Uber or do I run to my house?6 -
Nice to see all my new app's advertisement stats go up :)
Pageviews: 1316 (+41%)
Impressions: 1142 (+24%)
Clicks: 7 (+500%)
Except the only one that matters :(
estimated revenue: €0.03 (-25%)
Fuck you Admob!

I'm really sick of the "six-figure" advertisement that the industry uses to encourage more people to go into programming. The amount of people who hate coding with a passion but are in it because they want money is staggering. A lot of them end up dropping out. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only one who dearly loves this field. Truthfully, this approach won't resolve our retention problems.2
-
I don't mind ads in general, I just hate that they provide tracking capabilities. That's why I block all of them. (No, still haven't found a privacy friendly advertisement provider/platform)4
-
I love good advertisement but I hate bad products with "good" ads!
It's so difficult to find a reliable and up-to-date source for what's a good and bad game engine at the time. Every engine says it's the best. Every browser says it's the fastest. Every anti-virus app says it's the safest. God damn, come of with creative way and don't say your product is the best! *tilted*4 -

Tl:dr Guy acts like a moron and is useless in group tasks.
In my class there is this one guy, that I'll just call carl. Now Carl do some stuff that irritates me, but is harmless. Things like repeat the answer he get's every time he asks a question. I fucking hate it, but it's okay. He also says some pretty stupid stuff. Like today when he asked why Ubuntu started when he turned on a computer, the guy next to him simply said because it's installed while I facepalmed.
Carl does even worse things than that. I was asked to work with Carl on a group task.
Now I hate talking in front of people, so we decided that I would do the writing and he would speak to the rest of the class.
I made a word document containing what he had to say, but we also wanted a PowerPoint presentation to make it look better and so the other could get read the basics on what we we were presenting.
Carl decided that he could create the PowerPoint presentation, and I thought why not. The thing I didn't expect was that Carl would install Ubuntu on his laptop, without saving the presentation somewhere else. In other words HE FUCKING DELETED IT.
But it's fine he could just create it using a program that isn't PowerPoint. OH WAIT OF COURSE CARL FOUND A WAY TO TO FUCK THIS. The next time we had that subject he came without his laptop (we use our laptops in all our courses) because he managed to make it unusable, although he fixed it a few days later.
At that point I said fuck it and created the presentation myself.
At this point I didn't trust Carl with anything sharper than a spoon and decided, against our previous, plans to present it with him. Now I sent him the Word and PowerPoint documents so he would now what to say and what the class was going to see.
THIS GUY DECIDED TO JUST READ WORD FOR WORD OF THE POWERPOINT AKA NOT THE THING I ASKED HIM TO DO. So half the the time it was me going into slight detail about advertisement on the net and how people finding your company on google helps to sell products, AND THE OTHER WAS HIM SAYING A FEW WORDS. JESUS CHRIST, Carl basically didn't do shit yet he acted like he did. That's something that really makes me mad.2 -
That's it, YouTube. I am turning my ad blocker on again.
After this Lion King movie advertisement https://youtube.com/watch/... SCREAMED into my ear, I have had enough. Out of generousity, I turned off my ad blocker to let ad breaks play to support creators, and also out of slight curiousity which advertisements would be served to me. But after this aural abuse, I am turning it on again for the foreseeable future.8 -
I genuinely regret and believed that I just got scammed by recruiter. There's a company wanted me to create a prototype of Social Media App in order to be qualified for the interview , which I completed in weeks, as soon as they got my source code, they went ghosting me.
I woke up in the early morning today, in my WeChat Moment appears to be an advertisement of a "Social Media App" , which the design and the concepts are very familiar.
So technically I just build the an app for their money making scheme, and I am unemployed.
I hate myself for making this decision, I thought the app is for testing my capabilities, but unfortunately that's not it...

So a friend just told me one of his websites just got hacked and replaced with viagra advertisement.
He basically avoided joomla updates in order not to break something.
On the weekend I'm going to show him how to quickly spin up a docker environment for testing updates. -
With the movement of people recently deleting their facebook accounts, this actually covers a valid concern I didn't even think of, since I personally don't use that feature at all, nor have I ever used it.
People that used the "login with facebook" a lot, especially with websites that exclusively use it, will flush not only their facebook account doing that, but also all accounts they have ever used to log in with facebook, if not actually thought as far as checking the apps section of facebook and trying to migrate your account, which is also rarely possible.
So basically many people that do use it, simply won't delete their facebook account, because it has this backup parachute attached with its strings, that does not allow for an easy exit, except for literally ripping it all out and losing every account it seems.
Ignore dashlanes self advertisement bullshit at the bottom, the blog itself is still highly valuable in itself.

I fucking hate Facebook cocksuckers... They're the worst I tell you...
And did I mention Facebook pays NGOs to 'advertise' about Facebook as an advertisement platform... Fuckkkk
And I am fucking forced to sit down and clap for these ass kissers, even though I don't have Facebook...2 -
I feel like I beat "the man"
Dunno if any of you guys have picked up on this, but the Microsoft Docs (for asp.net) are basically one big fucking jumbotron advertisement for IdentityServer
The very same IdentityServer who dropped their free, open-source project and turned into an -aaS
It really seems like MS is frothing at the fucking mouth to have you use IdentityServer and offers no real alternatives whatsoever besides something like Facebook or Twitter login.
But I did my studies
Read my articles
And implemented proper Jwt tokens with rolling refresh tokens.
Simpler, more efficient, and compromises nothing. And I didn't pass my money off to some company to do it for me.
Fuck you, Microsoft, and the IdentityHorse you were paid to ride in on.7 -

So, I was just about to watch a tutorial on CSS.
Suddenly, an advertisement popped up.
"SO, YOU WANNA BE A FRONTEND ENGINEER AT GOOGLE".2 -
I just got an advertisement for Android Studio?
Why?? Why would google spend money telling me about Android Studio?? I'm a bit off-put by this?11 -
Why the heck is Office so incompatible with everything??? They have their own proprietary standards for Word, Powerpoint and Excel and then implement them WRONG. WTF?
And don't get me started on Outlook: MSG files are the worst horsecrap ever, why can't you use EML like a normal mail application? Not to mention the complete incompatibility with CSS in mails. Nooooo you have to design everything with tables and images like we are still in the 90s. WHAT YEAR IS IT? Everytime i have to work with this boolshit i can feel sweaty Steve Ballmer scream "DEVELOPERS!!!" right in my fuckin' face.
The real cherry on top is their permanent advertisement being shoved up your ass. The stuff is all over the place! When you register a new mail account via IMAP they open Edge and prompt you to give them your phone number so they can send you a download link to their stupid Outlook app. I could understand that if the Office suite would be free... but it isn't! I effectively pay a shitton of money to see ads.
Why is everyone still using these applications?2 -
Job advertisement :
Ongoing project in
- .Net Core
- Docker
- AWS
- DDD and microservices
Reality :
- For now we have one monolith solution with 60 projects in .Net Framework, hosted on premise.
- But on the jobs board it was described as something completely opposite.
- We are going to migrate maybe this year, if we will have time6 -
When your director wants a single flat static webpage(a simple advertisement with a form), but forces you to create it within Wordpress
....talk about clunky9 -
@dfox what if you add an advertisement category? Then advertisers might think that "oh, that'll probably make it show up nicely", though in fact it's not shown at all.7

I was walking in the cineplex after watching a movie today and saw an advertisement for "a digital loyalty card platform for retail outlets. Get loyalty cards on your phone!" being used by a big brand in my country.
The thing is, although not a terribly original idea, I first thought of developing a system/platform like this all the way back in 2012. I coded it, I advertised, I lobbied HARD; I poured my damn soul into this thing. Nobody accepted it. I scrapped it because I thought it was just not a good idea, only to see what is essentially a clone of it being shown off and lauded as a brand new innovative solution.
I won't lie, seeing that ad so prominently and proudly displayed really crushed me. I honestly don't know what makes their rendition better than mine, since mine did pretty much the same thing theirs does and my design chops are pretty much on par with theirs. I was rejected and I don't know why and that stings more than the countless other times my other ideas were shot down because of market mismatch, logistical flaws or just shortsightedness on the part of potential customers.
This isn't an invitation to a pity party, and I can't say there is a moral to this little anecdote, but I feel moved to share this experience with you guys.
Pick from it and learn what you will, I hope this falls under the eyes of the right person out there.5 -
It is really not so repulsive to see the poor asking for money as to see the rich asking for more money. And advertisement is the rich asking for more money. A man would be annoyed if he found himself in a mob of millionaires, all holding out their silk hats for a penny; or all shouting with one voice, “Give me money.” Yet advertisement does really assault the eye very much as such a shout would assault the ear. “Budge’s Boots are the Best” simply means “Give me money”; “Use Seraphic Soap” simply means “Give me money.” It is a complete mistake to suppose that common people make our towns commonplace, with unsightly things like advertisements. Most of those whose wares are thus placarded everywhere are very wealthy gentlemen with coronets and country seats, men who are probably very particular about the artistic adornment of their own homes. They disfigure their towns in order to decorate their houses.

TIL that you can use underscores as a decorative numeric separator in ES 2021 like
const FOURTY_FIVE_MILLION = 45_000_000;
I learned this from some shitty advertisement on a Minecraft economy server where I thought the little shit was just trying to be techy.
Luckily I wasn't actually rude to him because then I would have looked like an ass.5 -
Github is creating nice quality movies on YT. But the content itself, to vomit from it. AI this, AI that. It's like 100% advertisement. It could've been so beautiful with showcases of projects that are trending and stuff. They don't give a fuck about what the viewer wants. Never seen a github video? This is why, it doesn't show up in recommendations indeed, even when subscribed. Nobody presses like on their shit. Idiots8

After the servers got shut down because someone used them for illegal advertisement, after me putting in 30-35 hours a week on the side of my studies. Since it was my job to keep them running and doing DevOps work, they just slowly froze me out of the company without even firing me. I even asked them what I should be working on then. Their answer was of course: you can make us some advertising landing pages. Can you make one that looks like Facebook?
Nope, just fucking nope. -
Does anyone know of a advertisement service that donates to charity directly? I'd like to put ads on my site, but I don't wanna do it manually1

Thanks to @bittersweet I found and tried _Notes by Firefox_. An awesome app, wich I definitely will keep and use.
I love the markdown support.
I love the synchronisation.
I hope they will add access-controls, so I can give other users access to my notes.
Sry, for the advertisement.4 -
Google apparently announced, they would stop most types of tracking.
Whats up with that and why would they give up their almost monopoly on advertisement.
Am I missing something?13 -
I was talking with my mom on messenger and right after the moment I told her to stop believing in advertisement and not clicking on everything on the net... I saw a job ad on Instagram
"*cool company from my home country* front end developer for 3000 - 5000euro/month based on experience"
(which is a pretty good salary there, the avg is around 900euro/month)
me: *clicks*1 -
Wrote a good backup program, no one cares. I mean, its great if you want to create fast offsite backups! And it is simple to use, and has a pretty dedicated developer working on it all day long (Me)... Well, of course you would want to check it out, so here you go https://github.com/paulkramme/...7

So i ranted about how bad the snapchat app was in terms of design and performance a few days ago here and at a couple of other places and the general conscience was that I should use it for a few days and i would like it.
Well, here's what i have to say. IT STILL SUCKS!
I tried to use it every day to keep up with what others are doing and sometimes try to post but i really don't like his bad the app is. It doesn't make me want to use it. Its a battery hog. It fucking drinks through my battery like nobody's business. The v10 update made it a bit better but it still sucks.
I still don't like the UX design but I have come to hate it less. It still sucks though.
I still don't like that there isn't a proper way to discover people. The "discover" tab is just paid advertisement.5 -
Found this coding bootcamp advertisement while I was scrolling through Reddit:
“... we provide a better way to learn, free of tuition AND TEACHERS...”
- I learn my code in da streets, yo3 -
We're fucked.
I was having a debate on Reddit. A topic I brought up here already. Genetics and the mommies in my local baby group.
I was downvoted to hell for my conclusion those mommies cheated. Don't get me wrong, my conclusion was, they most likely cheated. I use high school genetics as heuristics, saying that its outcomes aligns with the question often enough to be a good decision maker.
A strategy manifested. Some people wrote long scientific correct arguments, just to block me the moment they sent it. For me it looks just like they deleted themselves and their account. I can still read it when logged out.
I just created a new account to reply to them. Went without a hitch, except that when I checked back in incognito, my replies weren't there. I assume they don't allow accounts that are too new. Reading from incognito, it was like they had the last word and I couldn't answer. The problem, they actually admitted to my points and built a straw men to the other points and I cannot point that out anymore.
I also thought, I should find a few people to hang out online with. So I started to play an MMO. After all, I am a daddy now, not so much time to find people. Only have nights. Besides the discords always being empty, all guilds I joined had the same thing in their rule set: "Do not discuss religion or politics."
Let me explain you something about democracy. It lives on debates. If you think you do not want to speak about your political opinions, then you're anti-democratic. Why are we allowed to vote? So, that everyone with a political opinion will find a decider. If we do not discuss, we are just at the mercy of advertisement. Most of us do not look deeply into topics, but some do. We trust them, because we know them. We have those smart people around it. Democracy is based upon "My neighbor has said and I trust him." That's how it works.
Forbidding political discourse, hiding downvoted opinions and using tricks, so the other party cannot reply in time or only with troubles is the death of democracy. That's how it ended. Because we're too butt hurt to even talk to each other, have the conversations. And I am sick of it.
And no, you cannot say, this is just a friendly group about knitting. The price of democracy is that all groups are political forums. And jobs. Everything. We do expect you to be adult enough to work with someone who has a different opinion from you. Who might even dislike you. Otherwise, the outcome is that all spaces where you would meet people that have different opinions are non-political and all political spaces are echo chambers in which you meet those people who are at best the staunchest warriors of a side instead of the normal person.
I bet two people of two different ideologies, who aren't deeply ingrained in it, have more in common than a person deeply ingrained and one that is not from the same ideology. But you wouldn't know that in today's echo chambers.29 -
Half rant, half shameless self-advertisement (I guess)
I created a (currently rather basic) devRant sidebar for atom.io:
https://github.com/sambadevi/...
But this STUPID thing took me WAY too long to code it, the plugin structure was sooo frustrating that I decided to recode the whole thing after I had probably 80% done!
Reminder to self:
Next time just use another DOM element...1 -
If you're into IT and you know Java as a fresher, you are gonna get a bunch of openings.
As you go through the advertisement, you get that smile on your face thinking I got that one.
Then you come down to the experience column and it says a minimum of 2 years on the job-type development.
That smile now suddenly turning into a frown...
And you still go on reading and it says No Incentives and Bonuses during the Probation period
And the final nail to the coffin of your happiness...Salary just 20K a month!
You, be like- Am I a joke to you?

Just caught my free antivirus software doing advertisement for another antivirus. I mean like making myself obsolete just because I'm getting the money for it? xD

Just noticed this interestingly weird yet annoying thing Facebook does to force you to look at their advertisements !!
The first post in your news feed is something that is decided by their "ADVANCED ML+AI+... " algorithms.
The next post in your news feed is always an advertisement..usually tagged as "Sponsored".
After this, there is an insanely long delay in loading the subsequent post in your news feed, which in turn does not allow you to scroll further down and forces you to keep looking at the sponsored post in your news feed!
Noticed this on my Mac + FF 57.0.1
Makes me love devrant even more. Thanks for keeping it add free! -
Why do these article sites of news channels have a shitload of adds in it , so much that you can barely even see the article ... and even worse , some of them add random pop up modals in between of their article.
Like I am reading about salt or sugar which is better to add in curd and suddenly I see a f*cking deaf person trying on a hearing aid and smiling like some girl in sanitary pad advertisement after she aced in her exam because she used the extra wide pad.
And some of those website feel so delusionally confident about their articles that they decide to add a "Sign up to Read full article" thing in it ...
I was just trying to read "top 10 places to visit this monsoon in [city name]".2 -

Since a country is considered to be the strongest definition of a group of unified people, consider the following scenario:
Every country makes it mandatory that any foreign company can only sell their software products as free to use softwares, or one time cost software, or a membership software.
These foreign companies are NOT allowed to generate revenue via Advertisement services or data collection/sharing/analysis AT ALL.
The sole right to share/collect data and use Advertisments as a revenue model remains in the hands of domestic companies born, registered and working in that country only.
This would generate an equal chance for both domestic and international companies to grow(domestic companies getting a chance to grow with a better revenue model, while international companies getting a chance to grow by monetising their tools/algorithms and investing in domestic companies) , resulting in countries getting a chance to grow themselves.
Open source will still win, as open source majorly contains tools and technologies for general public use.
Premium tools and frameworks would become even more valuable, and would he shared among countries like the way they share space researches and resources on nuclear technology today.
Privacy will win, as the data of a particular country stayed within a country. Domestic Companies sharing data with other companies (or even their foreign parent companies) would be held against the respective country's laws only, and government would be more involved in protecting its citizens from data theft.
Is it feasible?9 -
A manager just walked in and asked us to stop advertising a for hire advertisement for one of our stores... Okay no big deal right?
Yeah accept he followed up by asking if we could run an ad that told people that we have hired someone now.
Wouldn't that be like a hotel buying advertising that says they no longer have vacancy?1 -

I've actually already discussed this one on here I believe
I see this job looking for an android developer for Kotlin with UI experience with XD & Figma and experience with Firebase. I have all of these qualifications so I throw my resume into the fray within an 2 hours the recruiters contact me. they have an offer of 76,000 and I'm looking for junior so I'm like, eh whatever, I give them a copy of my resume and we hold discussion for a few days and then radio silence. I then see a job posting EXTREMELY similar but with a "different company" so I throw my resume in and again within 2 hours I get a call only THIS TIME ITS THE INTERNAL HR. She sounds interested we have a good conversation and sets me up for 96,000 and they schedule me for my first interview within the week. Interview goes great, next I meet with the CTO and we have a pretty good conversation, I'm expecting a technical exam but it doesn't happen instead they give me a case study. they send me requirements for an app API to use, architecture, and a week time span to do it. I finish the app with extra features within 6 days, in my understanding of MVVM and I was excited and happy about this app because its JUST NICE. a week goes by and I meet with the tech team. They grill me on my application, scalability, use cases, how would I advertise or place advertisement and I'm answering everything they love the UI (I included mockups I made on XD), they say everything sounds good everyone leaves with smiles they say they have to find out on what team to place me because they have multiple apps and that HR will be in contact with me in the next few days... A WEEK GOES BY and I randomly get the declination email that next Friday. When I asked for feedback they said it wasn't true MVVM. I was devastated until the next week when I was accepted for a higher paying job that didn't require me to move. After I accepted this job guess who calls? THE FIRST RECRUITER and for this long I was wondering if this was the same job due to the very similar job description so I ask "is your client XXXXXXX?" it was I just told him "I'm good" and hung up4 -
Just got WHIPLASH from seeing a racist ad in my local gym.
Racist is a bit dramatic, but at the VERY least, it's tone-deaf as fuck and from MY perspective (Where I missed the first 10 seconds of the ad) it was definitely racist feeling. Even with the context, I think it's pretty strange.
Anyways, this grocery chain is running this advertisement campaign about their yellow tags. I guess yellow tags in their store are supposed to be good! So they depict a bunch of yellow things and put text on screen saying that "yellow is (positive attribute etc etc)"
You might already see where this is going?
Basically, they had one scene with bold yellow text "YELLOW IS HAPPY" and the background of yellow tulips. Again, I joined the chat while the ad was already going so I barely had time to read all the text before the scene changed.
The next scene that they chose to depict yellow things?
Oh, just a child in yellow overalls holding a yellow ice pop. Oh, and the child was Asian...
SERIOUSLY how tone deaf could you POSSIBLY BE. DON'T PUT ASAINS IN YOUR COMMERCIAL ALL ABOUT YELLOW THINGS!!!!!!!!!!!
It was especially jarring since I lacked almost all context. I thought it was some shitty comedy sketch for a moment.

unfortunately, iCloud's "hide my mail" available for as low as $1.19/mo is the best email aliases service. Why? Because those addresses have no discernible pattern, and, most importantly, end with @icloud-dot-com.
a lot of services nowadays think aliases are for scammers, so they reject well-known alias domains like those proton has. but no one rejects icloud ones.
they can't wrap their head around that people like me use aliases, one alias per service, to have control over the spam you send us. unsubscribe buttons in emails often don't work, or unsubscribe you from some super-niche "segment" that one email belonged to, but because you bitches have a lot of those segments, you just carry on spamming.
major dicks that aren't concerned with email deliverability rating, like microsoft — because their emails get delivered no matter what, they're microsoft after all — think they can just not allow people to unsubscribe from their spam. when I needed to create a ms account, thank god I used an alias. I got bombarded with their spam, and lo and behold, not a single email had an unsubscribe button. Instead, the bottom of each email said "this email is a part of mandatory onboarding" or some shit like that, despite just being advertisement. no option to unsubscribe from that bs in their "dashboard" either.
so I just disabled that alias. despite what all of you stupid fucks want, it's my computer, and on it, the computing happens on my terms. when I need a confirmation email, I enable the alias, get the email and then disable it.
I have no mics and no cameras. I pay cash. I don't borrow money from banks. I don't have a credit card. when I receive crypto, I exchange it for cash directly in a physical crypto exchange that doesn't require my passport. I have headphones with built-in mic that I use exclusively for calls, but when I plug them out, no mic for ya. my next phone won't have a sim (and no eSIM either), I will disassemble it and take the front-facing cam, as well as mics, out of the phone, and then cover the back camera with velcro that I'll undo every time I need to take a pic. it will also run graphene os and be held inside a faraday cage when not in use. I have a separate dumb phone for calls that has its removable battery disconnected at all times when I don't use it. no matter if you're corpo or government, no matter all zero-days and backdoors, if there is physically no mic and no cam to be found, trying to access them is futile.
no use trying to profile me or get any kind of info from me unless I want you to — I'll just strangle you and your systems. my info sphere is a fortress surrounded by a bottomless tarpit. you'll drown in it should you try to violate me. if you so much as touch it, it will suck you in. I'll stream your drowning on youtube.
even irl, I try to dress, walk and move as weirdly as possible. during my morning walk, I be straight up walk as if I was rabid. when our eyes meet, I'll smile creepily, just to communicate that don't fucking touch me you fucking degenerate. don't even think about talking to me. just walk away you bitch before I pin you to the ground and bite your ear off. if you're bigger than me, you'll just get tased.
only those I trust deserve open, kind, validating, beautiful, well dressed and good smelling kiki.4 -
I recently switched back from Android to using a BlackBerry Bold – a 9700, specifically. This transition was made because I have been growing increasingly impatient with the many, many flaws of Android, and iOS wouldn't work for me, even though it does work well for many people. There are many features of which I was unaware when I was using BlackBerry back in the day, such as general tinkering abilities; while I may not understand everything, I am smart enough to be able to use technical references to figure out most of that which I do not understand. I won't go into detail about this so I don't sound like an advertisement for a product which was abandoned by its own creator, but I thought that the people here might find the ability to fiddle with the device to be interesting.
Having an actual keyboard is pretty nice, too.9 -

Just bought a new, cheap laptop for travel purposes.
It turns out I cannot start Windows 10 without giving Microsoft my phone number or an email. And the installator asks me if I agree to allow the apps to use „advertisement id”. It doesn’t ask if I like rough pegging.
Luckily, there’s a lot of temp e-mail solutions and I happen to have internet access on my other devices.
Then I have to spend 20 minutes uninstalling all the crap Asus preinstalled on MY computer. Seriously, when did I order „Asus Giftbox” or McAfee virus? The Asus-crap deinstalator displays a screen where I am asked to create an Asus account.
Question to apple funboys: is the experience the same when you buy a new Mac?12 -

As a new Monday arrives and another work week rears its ugly head, I'd like to impart some encouraging words for once:
Some of you might be working with legacy systems with code that resembles a Jackson Pollock painting.
Some of you have teams of people, both devs and managers, with the tact and intelligence of a lemming.
And almost all of us have something in our professions that we're just not looking forward to.
But take heart, my fellow ranters.
At least you're not stuck doing stuff like this:

HOW TO FIND RELIABLE CRYPTOCURRENCY RECOVERY EXPERT; BITCOIN RECOVERY EXPERT HIRE CYBER CONSTABLE INTELLIGENCE
Monetary loss to crypto and digital asset theft can be an incredibly devastating experience, especially when it involves significant sums of money. In my case, I fell victim to a crypto scam during the U.S. election period. I had been browsing online when I came across an enticing advertisement promising sky-high returns on cryptocurrency investments. The offer seemed too good to ignore, so I invested blindly, lured by the potential of quick and substantial profits. At first, everything appeared normal. My investment seemed to grow as promised, and I felt reassured. However, after a few days of monitoring my account, I noticed something disturbing: my account had been deleted. At first, I thought it might be a technical issue, so I tried to reach out to the customer support team. I sent multiple emails, tried to contact them through the website, and even attempted to call. But each time, I was met with silence. It became clear that something was terribly wrong. I had no access to my account, no communication from the platform, and no way to recover my investment. The realization that I had been swindled hit me like a ton of bricks. I had lost my life savings of $250,000 to a scam. I was devastated, helpless, and unsure of where to turn next. But in my despair, I stumbled upon a review about Cyber Constable Intelligence. The review was filled with praise for their professional, trustworthy, and efficient service in helping individuals recover stolen funds from crypto scams. Intrigued, I reached out to Cyber Constable Intelligence, hoping for a miracle. To my amazement, the team at Cyber Constable Intelligence was not only professional but highly skilled in using forensic and digital currency recovery techniques to trace stolen funds. They quickly got to work, tracking my funds across various blockchain networks and uncovering the full extent of the scam. Their expertise in digital forensics allowed them to locate and secure my lost assets, which had seemed impossible to recover just days earlier. Thanks to the diligent efforts of Cyber Constable Intelligence, I was able to recover my entire $250,000 investment. The process took time, but the results were beyond what I had hoped for. It was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders, and I can’t recommend their services enough. If you've been a victim of a crypto scam, I strongly suggest reaching out to Cyber Constable Intelligence. Look at this beautiful perfectly targetted at that showed up under my rant over poker. I stated where I've played and what my conclusions about poker were. It repeats those parts in his story and advises a different poker site. This is targeting 2.0. It's not even annoying, it could've been useful actually. The annoying part of advertisement is repeating because we're just not that interested and they hope to get you on a weak moment. But imagine if the strategy was targeting so good, that it has a conversion rate of 20 - 30% that a user clicked on it. You won't be needing to have adblock and consider the ads even interesting. Maybe the future of advertisement is bright. Imagine that the mindset becomes "Oh, an add, interesting" and regularly clicking on it

GET LEGAL AND PROFESSIONAL SERVICES WITH DIGITAL TECH GUARD RECOVERY COMPANY
One evening, I stumbled upon an advertisement on Google for an Ethereum trading bot that promised "guaranteed profits." The website was sleek and professional, filled with glowing testimonials from users who claimed to have made substantial returns with minimal risk. The allure of easy money was too tempting to resist, and after some careful thought, I decided to invest 35 ETH, convinced I was making a wise financial decision. After transferring my ETH to the platform, I was prompted to connect my wallet for "automated trading." I felt a surge of excitement as I envisioned my investment growing. But within hours, I watched in horror as my funds began to disappear through a series of unauthorized transactions. Panic set in as I realized my hard-earned ETH was vanishing before my eyes. When I tried to reach out to customer support for assistance, I was met with silence; the website had vanished, leaving me in a state of shock and disbelief. I had fallen victim to a sophisticated crypto drainer scam, a harsh reality that many in the cryptocurrency world face. The realization was devastating: I had been ensnared by a meticulously crafted scheme designed to exploit unsuspecting investors like me. It's these individually tiny annoyances in products and software that together form a huge annoyance.
For example, it's 2022 and Chromium-based web browsers still interrupt an upload when hitting CTRL+S. This is why competition is important. If there was no Firefox, the only major web browsers would, without exception, have this annoyance, since they're all based on Chrmoium.
I remember Chromium for mobile formerly locking scrolling and zooming of the currently viewed page while the next page was loading. Thankfully, this annoyance was removed.
In 2016, the Samsung camera software was updated to show a "camera has been opened via quick launch" pop-up window when both front and rear sensors of the smartphone were covered while the camera was launched by pressing the home button twice, on the camera software Samsung bundled with their custom version of Android 6. What's more, if that pointless pop-up was closed by tapping the background instead of the tiny "OK" button or not responded to within five seconds, the camera software would exit itself. Needless to say, this defeats the purpose of a quick launch. It denies quick-launching while the phone is in the pocket, and the time necessary to get the phone out could cause moments to be missed.
Another bad camera behaviour Samsung introduced with the camera software bundled with their customized Android 6 was that if it was launched again shortly after exiting or switching to stand-by mode, it would also exit itself again within a few seconds. It could be that the camera app was initially designed around Android 5.0 in 2015 and then not properly adapted to Android 6.0, and some process management behaviour of Android 6.0 causes this behaviour. But whatever causes it, it is annoying and results in moments to not be captured.
Another such annoyance is that some home screen software for smartphones only allows access to its settings by holding a blank spot not occupied by a shortcut. However, if all home screen pages are full, one either needs to create a new page if allowed by the app, or temporarily remove a shortcut to be able to access the settings.
More examples are: Forced smartphone restart when replacing the SIM card, the minimum window size being far too large in some smartphones with multi-windowing functionality, accidental triggering of burst shot mode that can't be deactivated in the camera software, only showing the estimated number of remaining photos if less than 300 and thus a late warning, transition animations that are too slow, screenshots only being captured when holding a button combination for a second rather than immediately, the terminal emulator being inaccessible for the first three minutes after the smartphone has booted, and the sound from an online advertisement video causing pain from being much louder than the playing video.
Any of these annoyances might appear minor individually, but together, they form a major burden on everyday use. Therefore, developers should eliminate annoyances, no matter how minor they might seem.
The same also applies for missing features. The individual removal of a feature might not seem like a big of a deal, but removing dozens of small features accumulates to a significant lack of functionality, undermining the sense of being able to get work done with that product or software when that feature is unexpectedly needed. Examples for a products that pruned lots of functionality from its predecessor is the Samsung Galaxy S6, and newer laptops featuring very few USB ports. Web browsers have removed lots of features as well. Some features can be retrofitted with extensions, but they rely on a third-party developer maintaining compatibility. If many minor-seeming features are removed, users will repeatedly hit "sorry, this product/software can not do that anymore" moments. -

My mother had always warned me about the dangers of “too good to be true” schemes, yet the allure of making quick money blurred my judgment. I still remember the first time I stumbled across that glossy advertisement promising unbelievable returns on investments. It was polished, sophisticated, and seemed so legitimate. It was an online trading platform claiming to be at the forefront of cryptocurrency investments, and as someone always fascinated by technology and finance, I was instantly hooked. After a week of researching, I decided to register with them and deposited a tentative amount of $10,000 for a start, thinking of it as an investment in my future. The first few weeks were exhilarating. I watched my account balance inch up, with my portfolio seemingly growing by the day. The platform offered high returns, which led me to injudiciously invest all my savings. The website was user-friendly, and customer service was responsive, which made me feel secure. I was lured by the promises of unprecedented gains, and the temptation of financial freedom overwhelmed my caution. I was studying digital marketing and was particularly interested in improving my skills in SEO, social media strategy, and online advertising. The software claimed to offer personalized courses, interactive lessons, and advanced tools that would significantly enhance my education. As someone constantly striving to improve my skills in the competitive field of digital marketing, I was immediately intrigued and convinced by the glowing reviews and testimonials featured on the website. The software was advertised as being user-friendly and suitable for a wide range of subjects, from beginner to advanced marketing strategies. I never imagined I would find myself in a situation where I was scammed out of such a significant amount of money, but it happened. I became a victim of a fake online donation project that cost me over $30,000. It all started innocently enough when I was searching for assistance after a devastating fire incident in California. While looking for support, I came across an advertisement that seemed to offer donations for fire victims. The ad appeared legitimate, and I reached out to the project manager to inquire about how to receive the donations. The manager was very convincing and insisted that in order to qualify for the donations, I needed to pay $30,000 upfront. In return, I was promised $1 million in donations. It sounded a bit too good to be true, but in my desperate situation, I made the mistake of believing it. The thought of receiving a substantial amount of help to rebuild after the fire clouded my judgment, and I went ahead and sent the money. However, after transferring the funds, the promised donations never arrived, and the manager disappeared. That’s when I realized I had been scammed.
