Benefits are not forcing me to go to social events I don't want.
Benefits are health insurance, paid vacation time off, ect -
C0D4669026yFree ice cream? Like what more benefits do you possibly need after that? I’m sold, where’s the company!!
-
@Stuxnet If you don’t got good health insurance as a software engineer, you ain’t a software engineer
-
@Michelle Depends on how far in the industry a person’s been in to determine if ice cream is worth it.
Totally not. -
xonya50806yFor who is asking the link, here it is: https://stackoverflow.com/jobs/...
The "free ice cream" benefits is on the last position of the list in the complete job offer, however I can ensure you that in the advertisement it was in the second position (I don't know if maybe stackoverflow.com reorder the benefits randomly in the advertisements). -
xonya50806yAnyway... If all this list of "benefits" is replaced with just one point (remote work), I'll apply immediately.
-
The only benefits which truly matter are those which can not be expressed as salary, those which affect freedom.
An employer could buy me lunch, travel subscription, pension fund — or just pay more salary and I'll pay for it myself. Whatever works for them.
More important are the amount of holidays, lead time to ask for free day, work hours flexibility, working from home, freedom to pick your own hardware & tools, office dress code, etc. -
Meh, it's better than free coffee, which every schmuck with a ₹2 company seems to advertise over here.
-
I once had an HR approach and tell me about a job which includes a "benefit" of 3 months probation period (probation often lasts 2 months here where I live). I think she doesn't even know what "benefit" means
-
karma108396yI'll do it just for the free ice cream, and then only accept Ben and Jerry's as payments 👍🤪
-
HRT-71316036y@Michelle He's not, and I agree with him, who doesn't want free ice cream, it's a typical excuse to become fat and sit on a chair all day writing code, what else can a man want from life???
-
My experience of companies like that is that they promise you heaven but working there is he'll..
-
purist12026yTo be fair, it would be redundant and cliched to mentioned , workplace where people wont go mad. or Work with sensible Colleagues.
But i have seen a job offer , where it was explicitly mentioned that devs should be capable of working with poorly maintained code with no coding standard. I think they were repelling developers who actually cared about life. -
Social events and ice-cream are good imo, but not the most important things. Do they also have free beer?
@aEEEdev But did they pay well? And were they looking for someone to bring that messy codebase into shape? If so I might give it a look if it was me. -
purist12026y@d4ng3r0u5 I didnt notice much. It was an internship offer and the pay was relatively good.. And no, i dont think they were looking for people who were required to bring it back to shape.
