TL;DR: Clients are dumb.
Client IT Lead: "Your code isn't working on our website."
Me: "Because you didn't load our code into your website. Do that, and everything works."
CIL: <proposes terrible alternative>
M: "No fix on my end will matter if you don't load our code into your website."
CIL: <more disagreement>
M: "Let me discuss with my team and I'll get back to you."
... later that day, in a follow up meeting with client's team ...
M: "Load our code into your website as was initially intended and everything works fine."
CIL's Boss: "That makes complete sense, and I'm not sure why we weren't doing that from the beginning. Let's make that happen, CIL."
CIL: "Okay."

Write a small js function using setInterval to fire a request every second ... then copy paste the code 450 times (literally, not an exaggeration) into a massive file to create a load test script.
This load test script also had no means to gather metrics or test response times or anything useful. It was literally a “did the server crash” test.9 -

Recipe: "baked developer"
you will need:
- 1 day = 1 story point
- 10SP per sprint
- every team member must deliver all the SPs.
Now for every sprint slap on 20+ hours of mandatory meetings, mix with 2-5 days of ad-hoc tasks, which must be addressed, because they are blocking the release/other teams/prod, and make sure all the devs try not to spill no matter what, and you get a perfectly burned out team.
Brittle/crispy on the outside, mashed/soft on the inside

South Africa Electricity:
This is after I lost my 7th 3000VA online UPS...
In South Africa we have 240V power most of the time which is great, but then there is scheduled power outages (because our electricity companies cannot "handle the load").
When we have a power outage we have automatic generators which brings everything back up although there is still the 1 minute drop which has weird spikes and odd voltages before switching to the generator (as the generators wait until they are stable)
This has being destroying our equipment, we had a $2000 repair bill 3 TIMES for 3 SEPERATE Xerox Machines that have surge protectors although their circuit board somehow fried.
We have lost 7 3000VA UPSes (3 different brands) and 5 voltage regulators we put to protect the UPSes.
The one UPS that fried just had 2 dead fuses, I decided to replace them (unplugged the batteries to avoid 240V) and when plugging the batteries back in there was a huge spark and flame and the metal and plastic melted onto the board and turned black (the metal pins to connect the battery are non existant now)
I am done with electricity...
P.S. 2 of our generators also got hit by lightning as we are high on a hill and ALL the plastic cable coverings inside the generator were melted14 -

Please tell me I'm not the only one who gets really annoyed when someone uses jQuery to do stuff that would take the same amount of pure JS. I think these days many people only use jQuery out of laziness, not because it's necessary. Why load an entire library to set CSS attributes and innerHTML? Yes, there was a time when it was very useful to have jQuery, but today we have querySelectorAll and all that. You can save plenty of kBs, load time and improve performance.
Next time you're about to load jQuery ask yourself: do I really need it? Chances are the answer will be no.22 -
At an expensive Apache Spark training class. For hands on portion you use their system. When everyone logged on, their system couldn't handle the load. First they blamed the hotel wifi (even though every other site was running perfectly) and then they blamed AWS. It's clearly an issue with their system. It's ridiculous to not be honest with a room full of developers who know what's up.4

So.. playing around with jquerys load() function because I'm trying to implement some updating functionality to a specific div. After researching a bit, it didn't seem like it would be too difficult.. but I could not for the life of me figure out why my template was not displaying! I tried testing with just some basic html and it worked fine. Even took a few snippets from my template and again.. it worked. As soon as I copy/pasted my whole template, the page renders nothing. I was seriously getting frustrated so I started entering the template manually testing each line. the code from a school colleague. So written that you must load the index page and are redirected to a second. if you try to load the second page you get errors. Many errors.

The reason Google page loads are so fast is because their research showed people will use something less frequently if it takes a long time to load.
I'm starting to understand that better now as my email fills up with Pocket, Quora subscription newsletters. Their pages take too long to load on 2G (20KB/s, I'm traveling internationally) -
About to checkout Gatling for load test to my REST api, any other suggestions?
So far their docs look straightforward to follow, requires scala but it doesn't look that complicated for that particular case.
Dotnet core devs, do you recommend another tool?8 -

I wish devRant had some cache thingy for comments, posts that has been visited or even post in timeline so it didn't make new request to load the post that has been already in timeline rather show the post when I click on it and load the comments separately. Same case with opening anything on notification ideally it should show the post without making request to the server and load comments or whatever in background. Or just download the whole content of the notification when it arrives2

When you try to do something good with flask and python but Mozilla doesn't want to load the media file.

So I'm doing angular 2 and I've started to notice that the time it takes to setup my website with al it's dependencies is becoming quite long. I know that longer load times are expected the bigger the site gets, but this is getting ridiculous.

Some of the clients I work with have their own in house (or outsourced) developer that works on day to day tasks. I let them know their load time was pretty bad, and gave them a list of changes. One of them was 'Properly remove content that was no longer being used'
Because adding 'display:none' on a div full of large image is definitely not helping. -

Do we really need languages like Java and C++ throughout the full stack of a web app? I feel that a properly used scripting language alongside a compiled language (for a REST API) can almost always do the trick for highly loaded apps.3

Is it just me or is devrant a little bit slow to load rants. If so why is that? What should be done to make it better?6

Work load, bug fixes, plenty of errors, back and neck pain and eye strain does not irritate me as much as HRs not responding to your emails.

damn sorry devs , i know you ppl are here for relaxation , but please help me out.
i am creating a browser and wanna have an edittext which works something like this :
>>user enters 'fb' , there should be a google search for fb(i.e load the string "https://www.google.com/search?q=fb")
>> user enters fb.com , webview should open it directly (i.e load the string "https://www.fb.com" )
>> some nerdy user enters http://www.fb.com or https://www.fb.com , it should load that
I know the function to make it load, what i don't know is how to modify that string to show such behaviors .
The webview is dumb enough to not behave like tht by default. although it feels good having such a raw and tool in hand, but hell, its a fucking google's webview! , why can't they just throw in some built in ways to show their search results by default when user enters a malformed url ?? that would be a great source of branding --__--7 -
Does anyone else have problems with devRant? Whenever I exit a rant and go back to the 'main window', where the rants are supposed to be listed, I get an empty page (with the typical devRant background but without the loading animation). Rants won't load for me then.
Rants won't load for me except for the first time when I open the app. After I clicked on a rant and go back, it won't load.

Hello chat, its been a long week with no progress, i have four problems right now.
1 node js repl cant recognize <> in js, and i cant find a fix for that anywhere on the internet, is there a way to convert html tags in js to smooth brackets code?
2 node js repl dosnt recognize codes like import react from react, and i have to do an async function load, and i dont know y or how to fix it.
3 i dont know how to write import exg.csv into an async function load, its usually something like “import react from react” to “async function load(){let react=await import (‘react’);}”, and i dont know how to do this.
4 i tried to install materials.ui using npm into a folder called materialsui in modules in node, it deleted all the other modules in module folder, installed, and then left the materialsui folder empty. I complained and i dont know how to get it to not do that.

Fuck me Amazon cert manager is so fucking complicated. Just do it all for me; why do i have to providing a route 53 entry (TECHNICALLY 2 IF I WANT MY NAME CORRECT) BEFORE I set up my load balancer??!! I should be able to test a load balancer first and then add on tls, not have to get a cert all set up and then sit on my fucking ass when the load balancer shits itself1

Using the Devrant iOS app Incan't scroll down to load more posts. Is that intentional?
At least I cannot do it while using filters. My "front page" uses some filters and I can only see 10 posts. When I scroll down hoping to load more posts I attempt to "drag den to load more" but the app doesn't load more posts. I just see a spinner that vanished.
Bug or feature?2 -

So In Domain Driven Design, it is okay to have methods in your domain class to load children (lists) on demand? Example: Your aggregate root is Person. Then a person has a list of books that they’ve read. Is it okay to load that list of books by using person.GetBooks(); instead of loading the books when the person is initialized?2
