Elyz69656yI usually find a color scheme with colors that works well together. Maybe 3-4 colors for the general stuff that are pretty neutral and one contrasting color for buttons/other things that need to stand out. That works pretty well for me.

I always used adobe kuler for these sorts of things. Helps you finding matching colors. -
