    Is this actually an issue or will media queries work as usual?

    @theuser it'll work. But client gonna ask for nasty animations

    @Jakuho Well.. maybe in Apple land, I think it would be unnecessary.

    I'm confused how do I design below the fold content for screens like dis?

    @karma it will possibly be turned off anyway
  • 2
    @karma there be 2 folds, below the fold and to the side of the fold.

    Those things apart. Phones like this just makes me cry inside. Huawei just makes me sad, and so does other brands as well though. Give me a solid phone that doesn't fall apart when you touch it.

    @coderunsleep I miss symbian phones

    You should already develop for all possible browser sizes, from about 350 pixels wide to 4K, your site should be fully usable.

    I think folding phones will be a bit of a fad in their current form.

    Folding screens are an evolutionary mutation, one which seems very vulnerable. There is a reason physical sliding keyboards on phones died: Mechanically moving parts are costly weak points.

    We will eventually move to a system where your phone connects constantly to OTHER displays. Sit down at a desk, and your phone shows all your stuff on a large display using a wireless charger/dock. Put on your VR/AR glasses, and those form the display. Lay down in bed, your phone is now a smart TV.

    I think technologies like Chromecast and Dex are pretty brilliant, superior to hybrid devices. But they do not yet offer a seamless enough experience.

    I do believe that in 10-15 years, plenoptic retinal projection (VCSELs and OLED/LVT microlens arrays are getting better) will completely destroy the smartphone market anyway. No, it will actually destroy the whole display market.

    When you can project a holographic lightfield directly on the retina, allowing the eye itself to blur & focus, it will beat any smartphone, TV, and VR set.

    @bittersweet not sure if I’m just lazy, but I think a TLDR on your comments would be appropriate

    @PoliteRanter69

    TLDR: folding is stupid because it will break, and while a phone is a neatly converged computing device it will deconverge in terms of displays.

    @bittersweet Its pretty much a flashy technology race (for increased PR) between Samsung and Huawei. Apple probably wouldn't release something like that because they rely on a limited line of products for support.

    @theuser And, as much as I hate Apple, they pick simplicity & reliability over feature bloat. Sometimes to the point where their products are frustratingly limited.

    I think an AR product is on the horizon for Apple though. Google Glass failed because of a combination of price, aesthetics and resolution, but give it 5 years and folding displays will seem stupid compared to retinal projection.

    @bittersweet We'll see, the absence of Steve Jobs makes me pessimistic on their behalf.

    Am I the only one who thought for an second of scaling the phone to the maximum width of the box it is standing on?

    Not that big of a deal. Looks similar to the iPad mini dimensions, we already accommodate this stuff...
