Who else is frustrated/burnout at building products that never gets into production?

When I work for a company I always tend to do everything with good practices, spend a lot of time thinking on the best ways to build x feature, and then the company falls into the infinite loop of adding stupid features, and then I've been working for 2 years and 0 paid customers. Funny that we've Sentry, GA, Hotjar sitting there doing nothing.

I'm honestly hating the startup environment rn. Good thing is that I've learnt a lot and salary is good. But also I lost all motivation.

Any recommendations for a tired dev?

So, I'm the engineering leader of a startup. This year, the company hired new directors and with that a new CPO. We've been using Google Workspace and have all our infrastructure on GCP. We never had any trouble with Google products. We also have Google SSO configured in almost every tool out there.

Yesterday, the new CPO, sent me a request to change "just some dns" on the domain. Those "just some dns" were Microsoft 365 mx, cname and text records.

I asked him if he was planning to switch to MS.

He answered: "yes! The team (a new team of marketing) wants to use PowerPoint and Teams".

I don't know you guys, but I hate MS products. They're just bad.

So, yes, it seems that now I'm gonna waste my time switching and configuring everything with MS just because they don't know other tools that are way better than any MS product!

I tried to convince him, this wasn't a good move, but it seems my opinion equals zero at this company.

I just hate this type of product managers that always wants to reinvent the wheel to let others see that they are doing something important when they're not.

Also hate when managers make decisions without ever consulting the people that will be affected by those decisions... But I guess that's how it works in this world...

So I'm finishing my last career class, it's called Web Design. I was really enthusiastic about it, because I've been doing that for almost 5 years. Then the professor wanted us to do a work comparing HTML 4 with 5, ok, that's history, I like history. Then he wanted us to do "Your first website", aahaaam, using just plain HTML and sending the content via .zip. Ouch!

Then I asked if I could do a SPA in React. He doesn't even know what is that. He thought it was an IDE.

I don't feel disappointed, I don't feel angry, I just want to hug him and tell him to study Web Design.

How can a professor in 2019 not know about the trending technologies it's been used to do web design?

Now I don't know what to do. I don't want to do a horrible plain HTML website, and I don't even want to do a "complex" thing for him and then have a 0.

I have a existential question. Devs developing IDE's uses the same IDE to develop that IDE? I can't sleep thinking on that 🤔😂

Today I was at my office, and one colleague from the design team approached me to ask something. Then she asked: why are you chatting with your computer? I replied to her, chat? Yes, I'm seeing you are talking with the computer... But, I was just using the terminal.

So here's my question. To print PDF's is better doing via Backend or Frontend? I've been testing and for me, both have some pros and cons, but I want to listen to u guys.

So this is my history of frustration. I started working in a project for an aviation organisation with a guy. We're finishing the users zone. Few months ago I passed all the project to github (yes, the project was in the server and he uploaded files there, he didn't even had a localhost). So I moved and created documentation for the project, because the code was a mess (he creates variables like $row54895 and the name of the files are like 'zonatrng' it's really impossible to know what does what). Then he created a new branch and he started to do a lot of things in one branch in which he had removed a lot of things I did because he likes his way (he's not even an engineer, I am! ). So I told him to create one branch for each feature/bug/etc. We had a deadline for November 24, but with all this things I'll not be able to do that. Today I received this message from him "we should delete github and upload directly to the server, it's more easy". I'm really tired. I'm working in this project because I love aviation, but I don't know if I will be able to continue working with someone that messy. BTW, I can leave the project in any moment. What do you think? What should I do?

I started Aeronautical Engeneering (yes I know, but I love Aviation). In second semester I saw Basic Programming, and then I realized that I had an ability in programming (comparing to my other fellows).

In third semester I was in "Static" class (vectors and a lot of physics) and I thought: "WTF am doing here, I don't know what can I do with a vector in real life." So I decided to switch to Systems Engeneering in other university (I think it had been always in my blood haha).

I saw one semester and this happened: I loved the career, but the university had an old-educational method that i hated. So i moved to another university, and I'm currently finishing at distance.

I'm just tired of university. I realized that the university is about 30%. The other 70% is experience (and of course a little from Stack Overflow hahaha).

Now, thanks to a lot of Google research and experience in various self projects, I'm here in Brazil working as a Web Developer.

I've learned 1000% more here than in the university.

And that's my short-four-years-story

I love to sleep, but once I stayed almost 26 hours making a front-end design as a test to enter to a company in Brasil. And here I am. Worth it.
BTW, I completed the test in 9 hours, I'm just adding more hours as everyone here hahaha. I stayed awake for 26 hours but had a normal day. Does it count?
