Trying and failing repeatedly to code up a gaussian blur function in delphi for a university computer graphics module assignment.
Over 5 days I re-create the code so many times I lost count. I think I managed to sneak 9 hrs of sleep in total for that week.
Good times... -
Happy new year to all you devs out there. May your coffee stay hot and your deadlines always be far away.

Saw this meme in an article the other day about why it's a bad idea to make your guru-grade devs quit.
It suddenly dawned on my that the meme pretty much summed up all the decent Devs i've worked with over the years - they generally turn coffee and beer into code. -
Having to work until past midnight on some shitty site amends because one of our account managers made a promise to client with a deadline attached, but then didn't bother getting any Dev time booked for the task.
I found out about this the day before the deadline when I was about to finish work for the day. I was not amused... -
Ah, nothing quite like settling in for some beer and mindless Internet videogame violence on a Saturday night only to find out 30 mins into your session that your PSU has shat itself.
Time to go shopping I guess...1 -
Coding has taught me that there are 10 kinds of people...
* Those who code for a living
* Those who want you to fix their laptop/printer/phone/etc.1 -
Being called into a meeting where you get fired for an argument you had with your CTO. But the CTO left 6 months ago and the sales department are suspiciously low on deals in the pipeline...
Shame really, I loved that job and the Dev team was great, shame the directors were bastards.2 -
Don't you just love it when you're in the middle of an agreed content freeze and a marketing drone demands an immediate content deployment to production because they made a blog post and it's "super urgent" that it goes live right now.

Well it's Friday afternoon so nothing quite like writing up some data definition & handover docs to help wind down for the weekend.
