Every single time I visit my family during holidays they expect one to fix their computer/smartphone/printer/whateverFuckingShittyIOT-Device... Just printed them postcards this time ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Also: Hello devRant! Just been reading here for a week and every single day was full of gold - Thanks :)12 -
When my very angry boss assaulted a colleage with a plate. We both quit practically on the spot.
He only had two full time employees.12 -
When you've got 4 personal projects to finish, 2 computers to build, 1 full-time job to wrap up, an online course to complete, Uni starts in two weeks and your family decided it's the perfect time to go on vacation.
It's 2:30 am and this is my life.6 -
Just got laid off from full-time salaried position due to various business circumstances. I absolutely loved working there because they paid well, are low demand, they were 100% remote before it was COVID cool, and they didn’t micromanage anyone. Will continue to work for same employer but on hourly work order basis. I’m fighting the “provider” urge to find something else full-time as quickly as possible. My wife, who’s also working part time, says I shouldn’t be in a hurry and take my time to find just the type of job I really want. She’ll even go full-time while I search.
I’m the luckiest unlucky guy.15 -
I’m a student who makes open source projects that are fairly popular and are used by several companies.
Today, I’m launching my Patreon campaign to hopefully fulfill my dreams of working on open source full-time.
Today is a good day.

I wish my dad wouldn't bring up the cost of college to me.
Yes it costs me $12,000 to attend full time semester. Yes I'll be on $75,000 of debt by the time I graduate next year.
Why the fuck do you think older millennials aren't planning on buying homes, putting off marriage into their 30's let alone thinking about fucking kids.
It's not his fault, I love my parents. I just feel like they want me to pull a rabbit out of a hat when I'm already pushing full time work and soon full time classes.
I'm tired. 😔22 -
College/university: gets a FAIL for plagiarising stack overflow. Serious offence
Working full time: gets PAID to plagiarise stack overflow. Everyday routine.11 -
In this day and age, what's my fucking excuse for not using a vpn full-time on my phone as well (next to my laptop)?
I do way more personal stuff on my phone anyways and add to that that I've got access to at least three self managed VPN servers...
Yup, going full VPN from now on.29 -
Windows is like a diaper for me! If you dont reinstall it from time to time, it starts to get full of crap.8

Irma is coming. And just a few weeks after we move to South Beach full time. Figures.
Anyway, if the storms sweeps us away, remember that I love you all.
Well... most of you.
Ok, like a handful of you.56 -

Sometimes it's a great feeling when you changing your self vector and start to spent time on something new that you have wanted to try out or didn't spent enough time before.
Yesterday I were full stack developer, today - independent musician which tries to spread his feelings and vision.15 -
OMFG it happened again. I'm always very explicit with recruiters that I don't take full time employment while I'm studying. This one was very understanding about it and said he found a great match for my skillset.
I just had a meeting with the CEO of this great match of a company.
- "No, we only seek people who can work full time, let's keep in touch when you've graduated".
What the fuck, way to waste everyones time.10 -
Whats so nice about devrant is that you see more or less the same people from time to time everywhere.
In comments, notifications, rants, all that.
It's like a party full of nerds like you where it's actually fun to get to know people.:D12 -
The worst rejection in my case is being qualified for the jobs I get offers for, but not being able to work full time 'cuz college'13
-
I'm a freelance iOS developer / UI designer and working on a pet related startup. I deal with lot of pets. My parents thinks that I'm full-time dog care taker.7

I got my first job!
A real, full-time job that doesn't pay me shit!
I haven't even graduated Uni yet!
FUCK YEAH! 🍻10 -
Someone paid me almost 200 usd to solve a visual basic assignment made of 13 small questions like palindrome checking, finding max,...
i feel i stole the girls money but i also feel i wish i can do this full time8 -
I quit my job last week and I’m starting as a full time mobile developer in January. I’m so goddamn excited.
With no university degree, I’ve finally gotten an in as a developer!8 -
lol what? My company offers $5k for referring full time employees... and $10k for referring female technologists.
As a female software engineer, makes me deeply uncomfortable.14 -
{Context: English is not my native language}
The first time my code get a review ( by my boss that time)
Boss: Your code is full of butts 🍑
Me: Eh, What?
Boss: *showing his screen* see that? variables names: validateButt, contactButt, seeMoreButt..
Me: *interrupting him* oh, I mean button.
Boss: I know, just being sarcastic, but it'll be better to get another suffix.
Me: 😐11 -
I'm the only programmer in the company. Sometimes it's exhausting doing everything. I'm currently working on 3 iOS apps, a web app, building out the APIs and managing the databases at the same time.
Full fucking stack. Every day.11 -
Just got moved from contractor to full time at my dream company halfway through my contract. On top of the world right now 😀5
-
40 hour work week with a physically demanding job, full time bachelor's student, and web dev on the side. I'm exhausted all the time. I find myself migrating to my bed. "I'll read this chapter in bed".
Next thing I know I've been passed out on my book for three hours. Panic. Repeat.2 -
Recently got hired for my first full-time role and I am overcome with joy, but also terrified of not living up to expectations =/7
-
Full year of cutting edge delivery on or before time, year end feedback time:
Manager: we r gonna give u lower rating this year because u we're not up to expectations
Me: but what expectations I did not meet
Manager: u completed all tasks before time and with quality and in half time compared to others...but unlike others u didn't slog...u should have slogged...
Me: fuck u...!! I resign!3 -
So I just told my manager that I want to resign my job.
I have decided to accept the offer from a German software company. First time working overseas, full of uncertainty.
I don't know I am excited or nervous now.13 -
The most useless developer on my internship program last summer ends up getting a full time offer at Google. #DataStructuresAreTheKeyToLife8
-
Full time eclipse user, I just bought intellij idea and it blows my mind :D
Merry Christmas everyone4 -
Someone asked me what a full stack dev is... I replied:
"A highly sought after programmer with the world of opportunities and no time to pursue them."
I think I nailed it.3 -
Finally made the switch. Full-time Linux everywhere! I figured out that all games I play already have Linux support since some time^^
And it feels good! So fast *_*2 -
The blue icon is back on VSCode and multiple root directory support! Finally!!! This is now my full time text editor. Goodbye Sublime!11

Missing the first entry date for university was probably the best thing that happened to me.
Got to work full time and show off my expertise in "reallife scenarios" for nearly a year.
Best experience i could've made until now. -
Remember that time I taught a "senior" full stack developer what the HTTP PATCH verb was, DURING an interview?
Didn't get the job.
Yeah. Those were good times.2 -
As a contractor I was head of my department, just been offered a full time job as intern of that department.. FML2
-
So I just got let go because there was not enough work to keep me full time. Yet my manager was farming out dev work to a 3rd party developer... Fml3
-
Yay😊
The company I'm working at (as student developer) just told me that they would love to hire me full-time, when I'm done!
Love working here, so totally gonna take them up on that 😊14 -
Jesus Christ Reddit really is full of some sensitive ass basement dwelling retards. God forbid someone doesn't contribute to the circle jerk mentality that literally every fucking subreddit has.
I bet SO users spend their free time there.11 -
So windows wants to be my friend, wants to record my every move, and now wants to record my every everything on the go.
I’m starting to think if the pain of transitioning to linux full time is going to be worth while soon.6 -
First time having 2 monitors and actual full size desk inside my own apartment. Very liberating and I should take advantage... nothing beats the privacy of your home where you can think uninterrupted!4
-
Thanks to @C0D4 I rediscovered Folding@Home!
I've been running this on a very powerful server at home at full-speed for a few days now (quite some cores being used to the max right now, it's like I have a vacuum cleaner running full-time in my place 😄)
Then, last night it hit me that I have quite a few servers running close to idle (rented ones).....
I'm now running a total of 4 servers at full capacity with Folding@Home.
Can recommend!11 -
We finish our sprints on time.
The PM congratulates us for the good work.
The client gives positive feedback too.
And yet, I have the feeling we're sailing full-speed straight into an iceberg.2 -
Started work on redeveloping a module for our system, I look at the database document and see two fields, one for date and one for time. Both are full date time and the data is stored like so:
Date I want to store: 2016-04-09 05:54:00
Date: 2016-04-09 00:00:00
Time: 1899-01-01 05:54:003 -
When you fix your mates PC and upgrade windows on it and month later he comes back because his scanner is really slow, his wife doesn't understand English anymore and cat decided to leave his cat life to become full time florist at local bakery shop.2

I was hired as a C++ dev, ended up doing full stack (React/Redox frontend, Djanho backend).
I was just an intern but by the time I was done there I was in charge of the whole frontend because the other guys quit.
Fuck that place.5 -
If it weren't for all the people who deleted their accounts, my avatar would be wearing a suit and tie right now.
Tsk tsk tak...
Now my avatar looks like a part time pimp + full time cs student. 😎😒👩🏻💻12 -
My weekend full of exhaustion and sleep is drawing to a close. Time to start a week full of exhaustion and struggling to stay awake at work.9

My confirmed results are in and it's a distinction in MSc Computer Science (Software Engineering)
It was a long & difficult 2 years (part time along side full time work) but I'm feeling very proud of myself at the moment 😃 -
Fuck me in the eye...
2 years into full time development and I still can't get myself to work on a side project.
Am I alone ????16 -

Taking several years before doing dev work as a full time job.
I really should have just dove in earlier.
Plus I always wondered what I would have gained from getting that shiny piece of paper (degree), but I guess I’ll never know. -
My job forces me to work 9-6 with a one hour lunch. Since I am forced to be full time wfh, I eat while working and take a nap during my "lunch".
I am much more productive.5 -
I was hired to do a massive project as a temp. I got part way done and they hired me full time to finish. Then I moved to putting out production fires for unrelated systems until I left.2

Full devRant in-app notification support is here! It actually took me WAY less time than I thought it would take me.14

My ideal job:
Getting payed to develop for awesome open source projects from home, at any time I like.
My current job:
Full time 9 to 6, outsourced security sysadmin, dealing with bullshit systems and stupid end users.
Getting home with barely enough strength to self learn and develop my own projects.
Just kill me3 -

Just scheduled an interview for a full-time programming position with a company for after my graduation in the fall! Super Stoked!6 -
A 12-week coding Bootcamp won't turn you into a full stack web developer.
It's like a diet it takes time, it's not over in a few weeks even if you start intensive and really commit to it.4 -

Just signed a contract as a full-time web developer at Mid-Norway's largest productions house.
Prior 6 months as an apprentice, no prior formal education, self-taught since the age of 12, and I'm 20 now.

Ha ha! Fuck you Apple. Forced to use USB c after your stupid charger games every iphone release.
Its about time. You pricks keep forcing new chargers on me. I have a drawer full of obsolete chargers.18 -
Working a full-time job, then helping with the newborn/household, then staying up until 3am because it's the only time I have to work on my app.
After a year now, the burnout is strong.
Tips to reenergize?3 -
Most of us can and have gotten freelance work before, but I've only met a couple of alleged full time freelancers, and the idea has always fascinated me. For those of you who actually are able to pull it off, what's a typical day like, and how do you maintain a steady stream of clients?6
-
when you don't have anything to rant about because you're fresh out if university and don't have a job so you don't feel like a full fledged dev. 😞😭 time to study for those interviews I guess.3

Me a month ago: "I'm done with full-time corporate work. I'm going to shift to freelance only so I can enjoy my life and not be in a grind, bowing and scraping to a manager all day."
*Recruiter finds me and offers me a full-time opportunity*
Me now: "Well, I guess I can look into it..."
Me 9 months from now: "I'm done with full-time corporate work. I'm going to shift to freelance only so I can enjoy my life and not be in a grind, bowing and scraping to a manager all day."
Repeat until dead.2 -
If I dont fucking get a passing grade on this test I'll have to wait another year for my diploma yet I allready siged a full time contract 🙃🙃🙃6

Recently got out of the military now I work a full time job, have a wife and a 15 month old son, go to college full time online and try to learn Java and android development in my other time. I want to work as a developer so badly but I'm just not good enough yet. It's also super hard to know what level of knowledge you need to obtain a job because all entry level positions want you to have years of experience in 10 fucking languages and shit like what the fuck? No breaks, hungry to succeed.10
-
When me and 2 friends/officemates of mine, formed a freelance team to work part time for us to pay the bond contract on our full time job. We were able to leave 9 months after forming the team.3

It's really sad how companies in UAE misusses the internship term, and make the poor interns do full time job with minimum or no salary.4

I just received an email about my company releasing an official full time work from home policy. I’m so happy.
It coincidentally arrives at the same time I’m building my first desktop PC, which should be ready on Friday.

from time to time i find it hard to organize my personal life. it appears that i forget stuff that does not seem important to me or just not interested in.
apart from my full time job i own a small business and try to maintain a more or less social life (as social as i can get with my dev background).
can you recommend any tools that you use to keep everything in line?12 -
Not being motivated enough to work on or finish personal projects.
Apparently, easier said, than done when you have a full-time Dev job.1 -
Me: "time to install some stuff for visual studio.. But VS, my system drive is getting full, so install these additions on this other drive with tons of space."

My day job is teaching at a school.
On the side, a friend (and coworker) and I have been developing an app for schools for two years.
For the last months, I have been daydreaming about taking the plunge into developing the app full time.
We don't have many clients yet, but it's getting harder to find the time for coding.
Any suggestions?10 -
The very first sentence in my profile on many freelancing and networking sites is "I am not looking for a full time job at the moment!" I still get fat to many job offers from recruiters, who apparently cannot read.1

Very much! My internship during school turned into a full-time job over the summer! I don’t make crazy money, but I LOVE the work and cost of living in my area is pretty low compared to the rest of the country. So, I’m great! 😁😁2

Time for a full refactor. Everyone can go home for three days while I unfuck every page and pattern.

* 2.5 years of experience in app development.
I experiment and use new things in each and every app but still something was missing,
Got a long leave, now I am gonna make a ton of apps trying everything I have wanted to, architecture possibilities, all the library ideas I have, full-fledged, full throttle baby !! Yay !!
So excited. -
Best way to learn dev tech is to choose the thickest book on the field and start reading it. Don't lose your time on blogs comparing what is the best framework If you do not know any of them... Select one and full blast!!!
-
I'm a developer, but also a father of 2 kids. I love spending time with them, but sometimes I also like to work on my side projects. And besides that, after a long day of work, even if I have spare time, I also like to lay down on the couch and watch Netflix.
How do you other full time developer / parents out there cope with your own personal projects?9 -
Finally got my MSc! 🎉
Now I can switch from part time suffering in worm and part time suffering at uni to full time suffering at work! 😅1 -
My favourite year was probably 2016, when I left my previous job and became a full-time dev. That year, the OS project I'd been working on hit 10 000 users, and one of the collaborators decided to hire me.
Moved country, and had a really exciting time, and the years since have been pretty great too.1 -
In the US, 40% of unsheltered homeless people are employed, either part-time or full-time. “JuSt fInD a jOb” mindset is wrong.12

aight boys i'm doing it
i'm switching to Linux full-time
no i'm not using arch or arch-based, i lost my arch bootdisk and i'm not spending another 100hrs on making it work again16 -
Took the weekend to finish my phase out of Windows on my desktop and laptop.
Finally going Linux full time!
Goodbye constant forced reboots, awful updates, and lost files!5 -
Bug requires 2 developers, full-time for 4 days to trace, debug, scratch heads, analyse logs. Third developer helping occasionally. Finally identify fix. Fix is 2 lines. D'oh.3
-
By now I'm about a month into my first job, and I've gotta say: working full-time kinda sucks. Even if I'm enjoying what I'm developing, 8 hours is still way too long to try to focus on one project. I could get more done in a productive 4 to 5 hour stretch than I've been getting done in the whole 8 I'm here. I guess that's part of the allure of freelancing though.5

The horrendous act of having the skills to develop but have a full time job. Knowing you could make 10 x more developing.. 😐4

it kills when people say dual boot Linux with Windows. I know how painful it is. as people who like to install Linux just pray why doesn't Linux supports it all. because all they want to do is use Linux full time. 😑😖😭8

Any tips on landing entry level dev job while in the process of getting CS degree? not internship, actual full time job.
How/where to start and is it possible?10 -
Mechanical engineering at my college loved coding
He did a 3 month python course ended up getting a full time job as a developer at a reputed company

Decided to switch to Linux full time. I've spent the last week reinstalling the OS about once per day. Upside is that I can install my system with all my preferences in about 30 minutes flat !1

Devs with young kids: how the hell do you do it?
I am a foster parent for my cousin who is 4 months old and I don’t know how in the fuck to make this work. How do you do it? How do you balance code and kid?
For reference I work full time at a tech support place, I go to school full time, and I’m trying to pivot into software development, which means any free time is spent coding/studying code/building a portfolio. Problem is I don’t have free time because of the baby. How in the hell do people do this.3 -
Oh well, glad it's not a wk98 rant, just annoying to install and sync the data, this time I am going to do a full image backup after installing the basic things1

Guys I have lots of rants about my office job. I want to find a remote software dev position so that I can move wherever I want. Does anyone have experience with a full time remote position?6
-
I've been thinking of getting my masters degree and now I'm actually considering
- quitting my current full time job
- start the masters in almost full time
- work part time as a barista
Am I insane or could this be an actual option13 -
Kind of awkward for me.
Tomorrow is my last day at my current job and my department is starting to work full time remote tomorrow.
I start my new job this next Monday, and they went full remote yesterday. As of now they're shipping my laptop my way, but they cancelled new hire orientation on Monday and moved it to the following week. I haven't heard about what is expected for Monday yet, guess I'll know soon!3 -
Has anyone else built any websites or apps for friends or family for free? Is it just me, or is free work always the least appreciated? The demands are also unrealistic. Meanwhile my full-time employers charges over $6000 for a week of work for the client which on some weeks is things like adjusting some styles and changing some config, and they are appreciative every time.7

A Bible app for Android called Tour the Bible. It uses the Google maps API to put a pin in each location as you read so you can follow along and virtually "tour" the Bible.
I had a basic version built but then I switched to Kotlin then I pretty much completely rewrote it to use an api for the Bible content instead of plain .txt files. I still try to work on it in my spare time but with a family, full time job, full time school and part time freelancing I don't get much spare time.2 -
Who else hates Teams here? I really think it's one of the worst programs I have to use from time time. It's full of overly complicated features and bad UX design. Slack is soooo much better and more user-friendly.7

1. Finish what is left over from 2017
2. Get some experience with machine learning
3. Finish internship and work as a normal full-time dev -
Today marked my first year of full time development work. I am really grateful to my workplace for giving me this opportunity instead of wasting away in education for 4+ more years. I've learnt so much already and can't wait for more 😁3

TFW your boss likes you enough to set up a full-time offer for you. 😗
TFW the offer is $20K below the average salary. 😬 -
Started work at a call center recently, really hoping things work out since it's full time, if you're inclined I'd appreciate some help toward that stress ball, I think I may need it soon...4

Finally completed final year major project, last step of B.E. in CS COMPLETED!
Joining office in June as full time in same company which I did internship. Work will be long and tough but interesting.2 -
for now i'm fueled by rage
started building a new SaaS app
similar to my other one, in the fintech space
literally all i need is 50-60 subs and i can do this, as well as courses and educational content full time!
we'll see...4 -
I learned how to code so I could build my startup ideas. Jokes on me, now I'm just a full time dev.1
-
I found some billing information in a sharepoint folder for a contract I am on. I make 3.25% of the amount the customer pays and my boss makes 28%. No way does she work that much harder than we do on any of our contracts. There are several people that make way more than I do who send emails and manage jira. The core of the business is building software yet developers get paid less than email jockeys.
I can see that we only have 67 employees and 6 developers. The rest are contractors. I'm tempted to share this with the other 5 full time developers but I may bring the company down because contractually the company has to have a regular full-time developer assigned to each contract's SoW even if they aren't full time allocated. What should I do? I'm on at least five different SoWs.6 -
I refuse to believe that I'm the only person with a text file full of my frequently used scripts in different languages with no particular assortment
Because I find it slightly stupid to rewrite the same thing over again every single damn time7 -
Now that I've joined a proper full time "software engineering" job, I guess it's time to get back to ranting.
It's been a month and a half since I've joined here and they have no work for me. And the fact that I've been given a Windows system with restricted access makes it worse4 -
Is there anyone who works full-time remotely for a company which is based in some other country?
Not as a freelancer but as a proper employee.4 -
Three back-to-back meetings today: Stand-Up, Planning, and Retro ... AKA two full hours of hearing everybody’s problems and hearing all viable solutions dismissed because we have no time to fix what’s broken.3

Actors/Use cases and analysis modeling approaches as a whole are for retards that require pictures for everything they do.
Designing this shit is time consuming and should be delegated to simple board drawing rather than full featured software that can develop this monumental waste of time.
Change my mind5 -
I want to paint...again...
My head - how the fuck u gonna paint with a full time job and a full time baby and full time housework.
Me - I don’t know how but I’ll do whatever the fuck I want.
Hunted out my paint box and brushes and kept em on table.....
Mini canvases...gonna start small, can’t handle big one for now...

How many job applications did you send to get your first full-time job?
My friend applied for 200 jobs before he got one. I am in my 30s now, but my motivation has almost run out.
The future seems bleak.16 -
On the current project, the deadline was determined independently. Then, development was told we needed the full project done by that deadline with no consideration for actual development time.2
-
Going from back-end to full-stack is the worst mistake I ever made. Let's say that full-stack is full of half-assed developers who can't write decent UI so if you do well in that department they (management) won't let you touch back-end again. Now all I do is pushing pixels all day. Time for a new job.3
-
It sucks big time when you've put in days and nights on a particular project and later face flak for not delivering it on time. What can I do that it took time 🤷🏾♂️
I did not purposely intend to lose business hours, I only want to do my work properly with the full (or atleast some) knowledge of what I'm doing !
Guess I just had a Bad day 😅9 -
I can see why companies hate hiring junior devs. The ones I've worked with have been incompetent. If I was the hiring manager, the only time I'd hire a full fledged junior dev for a full stack role is if they have already built a simple full stack website. Ugh.11

When working as a full-time developer
TGIF!, Its already 6 hours? YES!
Working freelance or on your side-project
TFIG?! What TGIF. This feature took 6 hours? FML. -

WHY DO DEVELOPERS OF MAJOR PROJECTS UNDER LINUX USE INCONSISTENT CONFIGURE SCRIPT FLAGS !!!
SOME OF THE TIME YOU POINT A PATH WHERE A STANDARD SUBDIRECTORY IS
SOME OF THE TIME YOU POINT TO A WHERE THE FILE CAN BE FOUND PRECISELY
SOME OF THE TIME THEY WANT THE FULL FILEPATH !
AND THE DOCS DONT READ THAT WAY !
'--with-curl=arg path to curl-config'
...
ok /SomePath/bin ? right ? NO
/SomePath/bin/curl-config !!!6 -
It's been quite a while since I've been hit with a product/app idea that's making me lose my sleep and making me want to quit my job and start working full time on it.
Let's see if I can pull this off.2 -
I see this term “full stack developer” pop up all the time, does anyone want to explain what it means? A dev who knows all parts of the stack, and a stack is what..?7

For the longest time I've had trouble trying to get my background images full screen viewed and responsive for some components while learning angular 2. Then some one typed this in the CSS
Min-height: 100vh; for height
It felt like I had a heart attack and spontaneous orgasim at the same time.2 -
Hey all! Ironically, last time I posted here was when I got my first job in the industry. Well, two and a half months later I'm here asking all the professional devs for their opinions on this matter. So, for all you full-time working devs out there: How do you stay motivated to work on side projects during your free time?4

I feel like a intern when I am a full time dev. Damn it, I need to improve. I don't wanna be a burden.1

pros of working on a full C++ project:
Time to browse XKCD while it is building to fix a small bug my predecessor made. -
I applied for a full remote position and got a job offer. The contract however says that I need to be in the office 3 days a week. 2 hours commute one way...
What a waste of time2 -

When I started developing my current Django project, I had decided to go full TDD, do it like a pro. But I stopped after some time, as I spent more time trying to make the website look right than trying to make the backend work, which always seems to work fine. Am I an idiot? I think I'm going to regret it...6

Working full time and going back to college......
I got my full time gig in January. This semester I decided to go back for my bachelor's because I only got my associates degree. Honestly balancing the homework and work isnt that bad. It's trying to get ANYTHING ELSE done....like getting and oil change, going to the dentist, etc. I have to use paid time off for all of it now. :(2 -

I was an Electrical Engineering major taking a Data Structures class and for the first time, I understood the title computer SCIENCE. In EE, you just blueprint all day long, but you never build anything. In CS you build and blueprint at the same time.1 -
Becoming a dev is hard, what was the thing that motivated you the most in your journey?
Currently coding as a hobby, but hoping to turn this passion into a full time job someday.
Also, why is devRant so obsessed with hentai?17 -
So finally I could find a part-time job! Better yet, I'll be paid as a full time worker! It's a shame it isn't tech related, I'll be taking care of a small firm's finances. But hey, I got a small office that, as my employer told me, I can use outside of work, for whatever I want! It's been a good year so far!1

I am about to buy a ded. server for the first time in my career for a SaaS project (also first time envolved in a huge project like this) and the first that I am full time dev and full time team leader. I am excited as fuck about this.
Q: Anybody works with Linode ded. servers before? Any alternative host company better than this?10 -
was a network administrator. have many full stack web and application developers as clients. now want to develop full time after interacting with them for years.
tried making lateral dev movement. failed. fml. -
Sometimes I think to keep development as a hobby for my side projects and not as a full time job.
Hate how development/programming has to compromised for businesses.
Hoping some of you will get what I'm trying to say. -
The JavaScript community should invent the word "outd" to use instead of "outdated" just to make sure they give forewarning about frameworks and tools going out of fashion, because by the time they spell the full word it's already too late and a post-mortem announcement.

So on Friday I completed my last day of full time employment to break out into the world of freelance. Sunday night my PSU decides life is too hard and cooks itself... Is this a sign of things to come?

Today marks the end of my first week as a full-time employee in this company (been here a month as a part-time before being hired).
I joined as a QA agent, but they put me in localization duty (in addition to QA) about two weeks in. This week, they told me I'd be responsible for the whole translation process, from choosing the tools to implementing them.
On one side, I'm excited as hell to have some responsibility. On the other, afraid I'll fuck it up and wreck my shiny new position.
Any tips on not fucking up you new job? 😅3 -

Lets hope there are comanies willing to give half worktime paid internships/jobs for the summer. The vacations might end up being a bit costly. I could go for full worktime, but summer is a time to enjoy, while I still can.

To not get fired. I'm a student at the best high school in my country, so it's really unusual that I work besides school. I want to prove that it's not only possible but beneficial. I already learned a lot, but if I won't get fired, I'll be close to senior level by the time I start working full-time, which will help a lot with university.1

Area: oil & gas
Full time job: SCADA apps, network comms, real time database;
Part time job: drilling app for geologist engineers, real time data acquisition, lots of math calculations and simulations;
I'm loving both jobs, because of working with external acquisition devices, because of freedom of work and complexity of the field. -
Im freelancing with a company that basically told me to scrape some data from some websites and do some aggregations on them. wish my full time job was as easy 🤣
-
My respect for anyone goes up 10x when they mention that they have been a freelancer dev their entire career so far.
Partly because I tried freelancing early on, and I felt ashamed of asking money from clients over and over (they never made on-time payments) and that was the factor that made me jump onto a full-time job for companies.2 -
I'm a full time lead developer, but I want a extra challenges etc. Does anyone know a good site etc, which you can do a few hours freelance or group projects?5

Learning more in depth CS and code concepts on my own. Now that I'm diving into development full time, I have to step up!

1) Quitting the job that I felt led on from the get go and didn't realize I signed up to be a full time contractor instead of a full time employee.
2) Getting my degree in Network Administration.1 -
Guys, I'm a developer on my own time. I've worked as a Junior Engineer in American Express while still obtaining my bachelor's degree in my second year of college. However I had to quit because full time work and school was not possible. Anyways, I still program and develop websites on my own time, however I just cannot seem to get my first freelance client for technology projects anywhere. Where do I start? How do I do this?1

HELP!!
I am starting a new contract to create a full stack web application with a medical company that will contain some sensitive data about their clients/patients.
I have been working as a salaried full-time employee for a medical software company, but I have been shielded from any sort of lawsuits from the client (worst case scenario, I'd get fired).
Do any of you have any advice on what I should do to protect myself in terms of LLC's, Insurances, etc?2 -
After getting rejected by various MNC's that too in the final round with a common feedback, Finally I was offered a Full Time Employment at one of the MNC's
The thing that I learnt was "The right door opens at the right time, Until then we should atleast try to open" -
Considering a contract to hire position. Do these usually result in full time employment? I've never done contract work.6

I'm doing freelancing.
One client hires me for 30 hours/week.
And I'm are getting work irregular.
Like
1 week is full of 30 hour
1 week just 10 hours.
1 week 20 hour.
What should I do?
I try to get other project but most of are For a full time.
One Client hires me but at that time the previous client gave me a full 30 hour's work so the new client could not get enough time and gave me low ratings because of time wasting.
I'm afraid that can happen again.3 -
My first dev job started by doing a change across a bash, perl and python script, where I got hired for C++. Now I'm full time python and I love it.

working from client's office from last 3 months.
The project manager whom I'm working with asking me to Join full-time there.

I had an interview for a position with an initial part-time duration of 2 months.
It was a team lead role with full-time work only after two months. After some discussion about the role and the compensation, they asked me to get back with my expected salary for the part-time duration (they had a low number in mind from what I could understand as they were comparing it with my previous salary).
So considering what they were going to offer me for the full-time position, the part-time duration (3 hrs/day for two months), and the lead role, I followed up with a higher number (with some reasoning behind it) than they mentioned during the call.
I did not hear back from them after this. -
i was around 10 year old. That time we used to use ms dos for drawing lines, traingle and stuff using commands that will print on execution . I was having hard time understanding it . I went to my father and asked for help. He taught me how it works and everything is logic only nothing else. That was life changing movement for me. Use to score very good in computers then on . Now a full time web developer

My employer gave me leaves and deducted salary for those days. This is a full time job. Has this happened to anybody here? Is this even legal?5

I’ve been up since 5am and I won’t likely get to bed tonight because of this project. A full 24 hours of awake time followed by another 8-12 hours of work.4

Made a working full stack native app..
QA-"what happens if I change my time and try to fool the time based component."
Why didn't you tell about that earlier you piece of shit!!!! -
So after I had an interview for a part-time(student) position, I got an offer. The only thing I find it weird is shit pay for the thing that I have to implement. A full application with, with a nice architecture and all. Something that you would task a full time middle developer. Cheap work..2

The time when you're in full flow while coding and one of your colleague bug you because they got a problem.

When I reach my short term milestone, I might start dedicating my full-time to one of the following projects:
1. deno
2. brain.js
3. The forking of TypeORM
4. The teardown of Isaac Schlueter
5. Create a full on movement to rescue open source12 -
Story time...
full-stack dev with a side project
get fired, side project gets investors money enough for me to do side project full-time
over-inflated CTO title but suddenly I'm not only coding but in charge of interns, operations, ML, strategic planning, etc...
should feel lucky but at the same time kind of not really sure what to do first since I'm kind of in charge of everything... facepalm.exe
any suggestions? thx!6 -
What percentage of your time is spent actuslly coding?
In a week, I spend not more than 1 full working day writing codes. The rest is spent doing PoCs, designing (LLD and rarely HLD), solutioning and deployment.1 -
Went to take a shit
But before i rolled my pants down i thought about having to waste time to roll my pants down waste time to sit down waste time to shit waste time to wipe waste time to get up waste time to pull my pants up waste time to back to chair and frankly.... i got quite overwhelmed already so i said Fuck off just stfu and shit inside my guts. And so i did. I refused shitting in toilet and got back to my chair to let my stomach now shit inside me and shit all over my guts. Fuck off. Dont give a fuck. Im too old and too fucking tired to waste so much time shitting. From now on ill have to hold my shit and shit inside of myself until i really really cant take the load and need to dump it somewhere outside my body
So because of that I'll literally walk full of shit. I'll be The Shit. Full of bullshit. Exactly how full of bullshit are the recruiters are the entire job market, and especially, how FULL of BULLSHIT is the ENTIRE CORPORATE WORLD6 -
1) learn react native
2) finish my masters
3) use Linux full time
4) start my post-grade degree
5) get a 3d printer -
Not taking an UI/UX class. I think this would help me be a better front-end developer. And also, not enrolling in a coding boot camp full time like I always wanted to. I learn better in a classroom.

Keeping the part time offer of my current job to continue doing school full time, instead of reversing that and not having to pay for school3

I return to uni next year to continue a Bachelor of Software Engineering, also just got shortlisted for a full time web developer job with the CSIRO, it pays like 70k a year, I wonder if I could do both. Hmmm. :/3

I am really not excited to start interviewing again :( I have two weeks until my current contract ends and I am feeling pretty pessimistic about the whole thing. I can't imagine actually doing well enough to get a full time offer.3

Question for all the full stack developers out here: which do you start coding first: the backend or the frontend?

So in Seahorse (the Gnome secret manager) deleting the OpenSSH key doesn't just remove an identity from agent, it actually deletes the keyfile.
I should've treated that scary confirmation message more seriously.
Also, my obsessive full disk backups every Monday are totally worth the time.2 -

I was working as an Intern at a startup. They denied extension of my internship. And now, after months they are calling for a Full Time position.
I mean, what attitude is this? I already have a job. What should I do?2 -
I'd probably open an office supplies and stationery shop.
I could also go full time singer, although then I'd be the only full time member of my band.1 -

Anyone know what's the current situation with part-time jobs in the web development field? I want a job but I'm in college so full-time is a no-no. I've been trying to find something part-time (internships mostly) but I'm not a US citizen (some sites require that) and I'm looking for something remote, and that's been pretty hard to find. Any ideas where I can look for this stuff or if such jobs even exist?
The best I've managed to find are full-time internships, I tried applying to them seeing if I can work part-time instead but no one mailed back :( -
Something funny. Has anyone heard of a case or a city, where people looking for a part-time job are in bigger numbers than those who are looking for a full-time job?
The competition is stiff.
Disclaimer, am a student. -
Creating a new class to help implement a new feature. Start with my tests (going full TDD).
Feature gets more urgency given to it, write slightly less tests as deadline approaches (half TDD).
Out of time, any future tests are burnt (no TDD) as I frantically wrap up the class with not even the time to write down a plan, it's live coding at this point. -
First time I saw an IDE full of code, I was excited AF and wanted to become a programmer. Now when I showed my dad Xcode, he wasn’t excited at all. But he thinks I do some advanced tech stuff.
