Google is full of assholes!
Just paid $25 dollars to list my app on google play store. Within 15 minutes of submitting the app, it got de-listed.
Who am I impersonating?
The logo is impersonating the logo shown on MY OWN website!!!
How dafuq can you impersonate your own intellectual property?????
Contacted them back using their form. Didn't even call them "cunts". Asked to have it reviewed.
After waiting 7 business days, started sending them 1 email a day. On day 11 I sent 100 identical email asking them to review it.
Today (day 12), they cleared the app. I got this reply back.
"We found that your app was not in violation of our policies"

Friend messaged me:
"could you install Linux onto my laptop? I'm getting really fucking tired of windows 10."
YES YES YES OF COURSE I CAN AND I WILL. EVERY DE-WINDOWS-ED PC IS ONE MORE!45
Was working and decided to go get a drink so I Took my headphones off.
Just in time to hear a colleague say: (in Dutch it sounds better) Beste Bob, krijg de tering.
English equivilant: dear bob, go fuck yourself.
Giggled hard 😆20
Today we got the following (approximately, don't remember it literally) error message on a windows server:
Please turn on your computer. Updates can't be installed while your system is turned off.
Genuinely; de WUT?!10
Was over at a friend's place for the first time in months again to just have a few drinks and some good time with two of my best friends when I wanted to show them a website.
Had my own phone turned off (NO phone use while socializing for me!) so asked one of them (the one who's still finding his way around the concept of online privacy) for their phone so I could show it.
He uses loads of Google things so I started to look for the chrome icon. Swiping all ways but couldn't find it... then suddenly:
DuckDuckGo search/browser icon!
Me: dude the what?! YOU using a more privacy conscious browser?!?!?!
Friend: well, Google doesn't need to know EVERYTHING I search for online so I looked if ddg had an app and voila!
Me: de damn! And, how do you like it?
Friend: the results are good so nothing to complain about!
I'm proud of you, mate!8
Boss: Something urgent has come up, can you take care of this.
Me: Okay.... But I am already working on X and it's a critical thing.
Boss: No, X is no longer of priority. You need to now pick up Y.
Me: But I was already........ Never mind. Yeah sure I will start working on Y.
Boss : What is the update on X?
Me: I was working on Y, also wasn't it de prioritized.
Boss : I think I was very clear when I communicated to you that X is very critical. Also you need to learn to manage your time.
Me: FUCK MY LIFE19
Just received my very first pull request on GitHub. Pull request: "Remove jquery as dependency".

Discussion between me and my N+1
(Note : I'm in the company for 3 months)
Me : As the tech leader, shouldn't you review my code ?
N+1 : I'm not the tech leader.
Me : Wait what ?
N+1 : I wrote the app from A to Z, hence I'm the architect.
Me : That's what I mean. Being the most knowledgable dev in the company makes you de facto tech leader.
N+1 : No, I'm not the tech leader. The CEO is.
Me : But he didn't even know the tech we are using !
N+1 : .... Anyway, I won't do code reviews. I don't like that.
(2 hours later)
N+1 : You made a mistake in the code. You broke a hidden functionality. You should be more careful, or ask me if you have doubts.
This guy is collector.3
So the remote manager who won't reply to my emails or slacks, won't invite me to meetings with product / design, won't ask for my opinion on deadline dates and won't tell me whats being said in meetings (despite repeated effort on my part to change this);
Has decided to send an angry email, cc'ing a bunch of people, about "constant deadline slippage" and poor planning on our part focusing on features that should have been de-prioritised.
*clears throat for maximum yelling rant-ability*
I HAVE BEEN EMAILING YOU FOR FUCKING WEEKS ASKING TO TALK ABOUT THE DEADLINES YOU FUCKING COLOSSAL ASS CLOWN.
I'VE BEEN REPEATEDLY TOLD THAT THESE FEATURES ARE A MUST HAVE AFTER ASKING TO DE-PRIORITISE THEM, AND HAVE TOLD YOU THE DATES ARE NOT FEASIBLE.
ONE MORE, ONE MORE EMAIL OR BAD COMMENT AND I'M EXPENSING A TRIP OVER THERE, TO KICK YOU SQUARE IN THE NUTS AS HARD AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE. I'LL HAPPILY BREAK MY FOOT OFF IF NECESSARY, YOU USELESS PIECE OF SHIT.
... the above is work appropriate to email back to him and all the higher ups right?12

Last half hour of last Friday my Cinnamon desktop started fucking up every time I booted after like 20 seconds of uptime.
Logs said something about xorg errors but after like 15 reboots I said fuck it.
Was quite nervous this morning because of that issue and possibly not being able to open a terminal for installing a different DE before everything started to get screwed again.
Booted up. No freezes. No errors. It just works.
I guess my computer needed weekend too 😋13
This is a funny one:
I found this gem in SO.
Why is it funny? Well, PDVSA is the state-owned company for oil production of my country (Petróleos De Venezuela).
This little intern decided that it was a good idea to publish in SO an answer with actual code, showing database and tables names to everyone.
Today, one of my coworkers had to translate a bunch of pages to French ...
He did his job, committed, pushed, and asked someone to validate his branch in order to merge.
Tests didn't take long, the login screen was broken, because there was an there was an <input type="mot de passe"> ...14

Just close the fucking window and shut the fuck up instead of snitching in a chat where the boss can see. And why the fuck was that guy in the lab on Sunday?
BTW, there is no chance anyone could pull our 75+kg robots out of that window. Not to mention they are like 20 years old and their only worth is as scraps.13
New year's resolutions:
1) Rid and keep my life free of toxic people. This includes parents.
2) Find a well-paying job that isn't also toxic.
3) Take care of myself for a change!
4) Stop putting up with things I don't have to.
5) Actually enjoy things I enjoy.
6) Finally buy a harp. I've wanted one since I was 3 ffs.
7) Finish de-googling my life.10
It's a shame that Adobe doesn't support Linux for their creative suit. I know lots of artists and designers that don't use Linux regularly because of this, since Photoshop and illustrator are the de facto tools for their work. Adobe xd seems to be awesome, but I can't use on my pc due the lack of support -.-21
Devrant client update:
- load indicator on ajax execs
- changed the design yet again, hopefully final this time lol
- implemented ajax content loading so the menubar doesn't flash
- block users/keywords plugins done, only left to find a clean way to integrate it with the upcoming notifications, so no notifications are fired for blocked users or posts with blocked keywords (similar to twitter mute keywords)
- usernames linkifier plugin
- links get unshortened on feed too (via plugin), without losing the ability to press on a post
next is (just to name a few, the trello list is far bigger by now)
- local notifications, should be firing without GCM/FCM too hopefully, which would be great for people on here that de-googled entirely and don't want microG
- port some of my userscript plugins I haven't yet
- theme system
- global and plugin settings
- plugin update system
- plugin import checks for obfuscated code, one line etc. and warns the user
- client update system8
Yesterday we started coding with my eldest son, with some board game (based in scratch), and it was so fucking amazing! I'm partial, but he's a fucking code genius!!!
In the game, the child "code" some functionality with cards and the adult (me) compute them 'doing the actions'.
I'm so fucking proud!!! Well, I'm always proud of my children, and there the English language doesn't convey very well my thinking as the verb to be doesn't differentiate the intrinsic state of a subject and a passing state:

at a recent interview:
🕴️ interviewer: are you familiar with PHP?
Jr Me 👶: well I'm currently studying it but I thought this was a front end position? I'm looking to work with js, sass and UI design.
🕴️: Well PHP is frontend and we are working with it in our CMS.
👶:... *Getting weird WordPress flashbacks*.. I think I'll continue looking but thanks for your offer.
Later that day I checked if their websites have wp-login.php and woop de fucking doo... It does.. as well as all their clients sites..
Dodging bullets like the freaking Choose one! Ps. Second time this happens.. gotta start checking this before going to the interview..6
Currently in the middle of quarterly planning (its been fun so far). Needs to be signed off by business today.
- My team has ~25 man weeks available in terms of capacity.
- Looking at only priority 0 tasks, last night we calculated the ask from product stands at 64.
- Including P1's, P2's etc. its well over 100 man weeks.
- Email was sent around from business with a list of tasks, asking which can be dropped, de-scoped etc.
Product (non technical) response this morning:
- This one can't take 2 weeks, its not that complicated.
- This one needs to stay, It was originally a Q1 task.
- Can we make this one smaller? (currently only a 3 week task)
- 14 comments on other teams items.
... ah perfect, that cut down the items by less than half. We are now ready for the deadline in 4 hours to have all this signed off on. Great job everyone. Thanks for all the insightful discussions. Go team!
Are you a complete passive aggressive twat?
Are you 100% completely unable to stand up for yourself outside of the safety that a computer screen provides?
Are you a male and capable of only doing things that would take you in the absolute complete opposite direction of a vagina?
Are you a female and an insufferable twat?
Do you think that people's likes and dislikes are no better than yours?
Is your opinion better than anyone else's?
THEN BEING A DEVELOPER AND BEING IN DEVRANT IS JJJJJJJJUST WHAT YOU NEED!
Here in our community, the more full of shit that you are! the farther you will go up in popularity! Insufferable opinionated and biased assholes that could not throw a punch if their lives depended on it is LITERALLY WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT!!
lmao, I swear man, some of y'all are just too full of shit.22
Try pair programming! I've never had an official pair programming session, but I'll be damned if my best code and quickest solutions didn't come from having a bitch session with my coworker. Just having to talk it out or having that second set of eyes can work wonders. Plus you have a built-in de-stressing outlet to help you sleep at night.3
After 8 iTunes Testflight Beta approvals for my app ... better still, I got hte app approved for the App Store a week ago to "de-risk" our "final submission" ... That's 9 approvals for my app, and we're ready to submit version 1.0.0 and actually release on the store. We take last week approved app and "developer reject" if to make room for the final tweaked version (minor tweaks, minor bugfixes). Submit version 1.0.0., plenty of time before it needs to be released.
But, what's this? "Meta Data rejected" for v1.0.0 because some piece of shit at Apple wants to watch a video of the app working with our hardware. What about the previous 9 approvals with the demo account connected to the demo hardware?
So we send a video within 1 hour of their unexpected request about the very foundational fucntionality of our app. That was 24 hours ago and these fucking assholes haven't even responded, no sign of when they will trouble themselves to respond. Pure limbo.
All the work up to this point was to "de-risk" their infamously shitty review process and all of it was in vain because it's somehow brand new information that our app works with our hardware.
Holy fuck, what a bunch of power-tripping assholes. All I can do is pace around and review the previous 2 months in my head to figure out what I could have done better. But I could not possibly have expected that after all the Testflight Beta approvals and after the recent App Store approval, that they would suddenly doubt that our software actually works with our hardware!!!!!
FUCK YOU APPLE!!!! FUCK YOU WITH ALL MY HEART!!!!!!2
The DE life cycle of every Linux hobbyist:
1. Let's work with Unity.... it's so blah
2. Let's check out XFCE.... it does its job, but it needs more zing
3. Let's check out KDE...aah, my poor battery.
4. Let's check out LXDE.... Can you be any more boring?
5. Let's check out Pantheon.... This is perfect, but I'm tired of using a tweak tool to even enable minimize and maximize
6. Let's go to Gnome 3...Ah never mind
7. Let's go to Cinnamon... Blurgh, It reminds me of Windows
8. Let's go to MATE....Hmm, Mutiny layout?!! It reminds me of Unity. Wonder if Unity 8 has made any progress!
9. Go back to Step 1.16
I was young and stupid. Remember floppy disks? Yeah, we still had them when I was studying. Went to a computer cafe, rented a PC and DOS was already booted up (I'm an old fucker). I didn't want to reboot because PC rental was metered. I inserted my floppy disk and got infected by a virus that deleted my work. No git back then and my backup was on the same disk (fuck me). Back home, rewrote the whole thing from memory.
I got mad and wanted revenge. De-constructed a floppy disk, replaced the magnetic media with sandpaper and went to each and every PC on that computer cafe.
It was closed for day.3
I found some rum!
Kahlua, milk, Tito’s. Mmm. And so strong.
I tried adding creme de cacao, but I wasn’t strong enough to open the bottle. 🙁
Anyway, we played a family game that amounts to throwing a ball or other toy into a bucket from increasing distances / more difficult areas of the room. With my drunken coordination it was a great time. 😁
No work today.
Just packing and fun.
My first app is finally on :)
Shameless self advertising:

He: * Opens the compressed file and runs it from there *
It takes a good two minutes for all of the resources to be extracted.
Me: * Gives more instructions *
Me: We are going to have to restart program X.
He: * Closes X and runs again from inside de .rar file *
Another two minutes.
Me: * stares *3

In spanish we don't say "stop being afraid" o "have no fear" word by word through translation. We say "ya no seas panocha" which roughly translates to "find bravery within you" and I think that this is beautiful.
For people that are constantly afraid we don't call them fearful in standard translation, we refer to them as "panochon" which attempts to remind them that they are in fact brave.
Use the word my friends. No sean panocha.21
Stop asking which Linux distro is best. Seriously there is no "best" one. Arch is best FOR ME. Debian or Fedora might be your cup of tea. But I have great news for you, they are all FREE and there is free virtualization software you can try them on. Stop asking a stupid question that only gets opinionated answers and flame wars and go try them for yourself.
Also, while I'm on the topic. Ubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Ubuntu XFCE etc. are all the same distro, they just have a different DE (desktop environment for you noobs). It's like on Monday I wear a suit but Tuesday I wear shorts and a tee shirt, it's still me, I'm just dressed differently.8
With the announcement of WSL2, I am really concerned for linux DEs.
I use linux distros not just for the kernel but because most linux DEs do a far better job that windows ever will.
But the next gen programmers probably will never leave their shit systems for any distro because guess what... thay can just use WSLs.
I would probably have done the same.
You need to use a linux DE (Gnone/KDE/etc.) for at least a couple days to understand how great it is but people won't do it because windows is good enough and they can achieve most tasks in wsl.
Linux Foundation already doesn't care about DEs. (And why would they... Microsoft is filling their pockets).
I hope people still find wsl crap and have enough reasons to give any linux DE at least a few days try.
Wrote from my Manjaro KDE :(45
Linux is an amazing, stable operating system.
Until you decide to upgrade it, then you realise the update failed, your DE is broken and after using Timeshift to restore the system, your GRUB decided to commit seppuku.37
My brother had been using my PC for watching movies and play games and I wanted to work, so I installed archlinux without any DE or WM, now if he tries to use it he might learn thing or too or leave my PC alone!!!!4
Bunq gave a fitting sentence to a 18 year old for DDoS'ing them.
Fintechbank' Bunq has announced that an 18 year old man has voluntarily reported to be the one behind a big DDoS against the bank. The bank and the man agreed to the sentence of a week of volunteer work for Amnesty intornational.
That's how it can be done too!
It's a lot closer to what I see as just punishment for a DDoS compared to going to jail for years.
Bunq it took balls to show such leinancy and I do applaud you for it.5
opened up my laptop at the car dealership where I am chilling at rn while I wait on my car's service to be done.
I open my laptop and start working on some small fix that I had forgotten about for work.
OMG guess what? no one is looking at me doing shit in the computer because in reality no one gives a flying fuck like most of you attention whores wanna make it sound like.
No one thinks you are hacking because you opened up a terminal in public.
Bola de jotos ridiculos.15
Clients keep asking if our software will support XYZ format.
XYZ format is a proprietary format that we are not the proprietors of. Unfortunately, it has become something of a de-facto standard in our industry.
It is not practical to support the format because being able to figure it out is difficult, time consuming and not even a certainty. In fact while we have historically done so for previous versions, it has been upgraded several times so this becomes something of an arms race for us (whether intentional or not).
Responses from clients when we try to explain this vary, but a not insignificant number of them intimate that this is a failing or fault on our part.
It is pretty annoying, and considering the damage in perception it can do, is a pretty interesting and subtle form of economic moat I had not previously considered.14
De-duping drama continues. Background: stakeholder marked a bunch of records as “do not use” and didn’t realize/didn’t care about the impact on other systems. Many of those are active user accounts.
Stakeholder: What if we ask the user to create a new website account?
Me: they can’t register a new account of the email was used already. Are you expecting me to delete all those web accounts so the users can start over with their current email? Or are you saying you’re going to email 400 people and tell them to get a new email address and create a new account? Don’t force users to do extra steps to fix your mess.

Buggered by Xcode AGAIN. The inability of the debugger to do basic debugging relinquishes it to the status of "bugger", relieving it of its "de" title.
Can't show some basic expressions... copied and pasted from the running code
I mean seriously, what do you do if the debugger has more bugs than your project you are trying to analyze?2
Public service announcement: Wearing club de nuit perfume will have random people get close to you and smell the perfume thus complimenting it but making it really uncomfortable.
My brother in law gifted me this awesome perfume and it has brough upon some very serious awkward encounters.
I know it smells good, and I know I am pretty, but please ma'am I am married and this is weird, get away and ask me. Seriously no one every talks about how dudes get put into weird positions sometimes and I don't like females getting close to me.
I wear the perfume because I like the smell, and I get it, but please leave me alone.6
Had coffee in the late evening.
And can’t fall asleep till now.
Browsed fb for abit.
Saw someone shared some scary shit.
Shook to the core.
Opened dev rant.
Heart felt almost instantly at ease.
Thank u Devrant 😭2
A bug which takes 6 days to be found/fixed. Screw you financial data. 👹
🏀on the good side: whole class was de-constructed and re-factored + no other bugs were found! 😀🔥1
Stakeholder: Users are connecting invalid memberships to their web accounts. They shouldn’t be able to do that.
Me: Their memberships were valid when they set up the account. Your team’s record de-duping project is the issue here. You decided to mark those memberships as invalid.
I’m real tired of this stakeholder acting like this is a website issue or user error. Plus, this chaos could have been avoided if they and other involved stakeholders had just cc’d me on this de-duping project. I would have said their approach was not a good idea. But they didn’t because they want to do what’s convenient for them. If they want to be a reliable source of truth for our data, then they need to be responsible with how they’re handling that data.2
I'm convinced this is going to be wildly unpopular, but hey...
Please stop writing stuff in C! Aside from a few niche areas (performance-critical, embedded, legacy etc. workloads) there's really no reason to other than some fumbled reason about "having full control over the hardware" and "not trusting these modern frameworks." I get it, it's what we all grew up with being the de-facto standard, but times have moved on, and the number of massive memory leaks & security holes that keep coming to light in *popular*, well-tested software is a great reason why you shouldn't think you're smart enough to avoid all those issues by taking full control yourself.
Especially, if like most C developers I've come across, you also shun things like unit tests as "something the QA department should worry about" 😬12
Am I the only one who feels overwhelmed, excited, confused and in an anxiety/desesperation-scene on developing JS base de software.
Don't judge me, I'm a newbie10
I love that JS allows for variable swapping,

For our business we are paying the highest plan the ISP provides (240 mbps) but we get 110 kb/s. Wtf!! You write them, they answer “give your address”, done, “we doesn’t see any problems”, calls a friend that also uses Telenet, “do you have problems”, “yes, no internet”. What de F*** is wrong?? It’s nearly a month like that!! They really need to do something!!16

Asked the writer about it, apparently he wasn't aware of devRant and that devducks were a thing (he did know about rubber duck debugging).
He just took the image from Google and after I explained they were real he ordered a couple :D4

The whois service for the legacy top-level domain for Germany (.de) is one of the most fucked up things on the internet.
For years now they've restricted the whois service to notice you about their website information service (https://denic.de/en, you run a search and get information about the domain) which already cost you an unnecessary amount of time if you simply want to lookup something.
A while back they changed it so that you need to state whether you want to look it up fotr informative purposes or business purposes, then they changed it so that you need to supply a reason in a text box.
The new (GDPR) way is that you only get the connectivity status ("connect", "free") via whois and the nameservers on the website (without supplying a reason, which actually is an improvement). Everything this either is for executive authorities or the domain owner (by entering their mail address or zip code).
Germany - the land of "We can opt out of any standard because we can and since theaws changed we can also behave like dickbutts".
Adding the GDPR now only fed the trolls even more.7
Moving to flamenco when you have been a metal guitarist all your life is.....painful.

WOOOP-DE-FUCKING-DO I HATE MY ISP (well actually the company which is reliable for the cable networks which lead to my/our new home).
WhAtEvErYoUmEaN and I moved yesterday to a new flat. Not spectacular at all except that mentioned company cancelled the appointment ON THE SAME FUCKING DAY! "We're so sorry. No internet until Thursday. At least"
Well, so we are here in the middle of nowhere without internet. Time for old school books i guess😅7
Part two of: a day off an iOS developer life:
1. App crashed and stack trace gives no info in which file it happened, I have a generic table view cell that is used in so many places and Xcode just wrote: xcell does not support key value.
2. Mac freezing when Xcode is creating IPA file thanks to a new feature in Xcode 9 (Mac freezing is the new feature, even mouse pointer doesn't move -.-)
3. Let's check the value of this class property, Xcode: fuck off and either print it in console (after hitting a break point) or expand that shitty tree at the bottom to reach your class property!
An advice: never click jump to definition when Xcode is indexing, it will either freezing Xcode or crash it.

Devils Advocate moment: A proper PM can assist greatly on projects.
Don't get me wrong, you have all for the most part been faced with the incompetence of glorified quasi manager positions. But a proper PM can be a gift really.
I absolutely despise generalizations, I do get that percentages matter, but shitting on professions when the realm of possibilities have yet to be touched to the full extend of capabilities seems like child's play really.
remember, y'all think you are all God's gift to the world through coding experience, but a solid network engineer might have as much gripes about developers as y'all do about managers, project managers, sys admins etc, and the same shit can be applied vice versa.
Software engineering is magic, in the sense of the tv show "The Magicians" where you can make an incantation and suddenly your penis/tiddys explode: inexact science.
Be a tad bit open minded, learn enough about their shit to tell them that they are fucktards, and run from the ones that know but don't fix shit.
FUUUUUUUUUUCK FUCK FUCK FUUUUUUUUUUCK ! Sorry I needed to let this out. I make extra hours since a few weeks and this only because 1. I'm the only dev of the team (will seriously need more people). 2. I have to manage people remotely which, as a 3 years old experienced dev, is not what I expect of my job. 3. I need to finish the job of an intern (not even her fault but de was asked to make powerpoints and stuffs instead of working on the module we need).
And today we just asked me if I can work on saturday. NO. I love (or used to?) my job but this can't last for ever.2
Always respect de YAGNI principle (You Aren't Gonna Need It). Maybe the hardest thing to follow, as beginner and after.

Care to help me with some some-what basic math?
100 characters exist in the ASCII codec.
I'm trying to figure out the minimum amount of characters required to encode them. (= Turning each digit into a two digit char set that doesn't mach any other char set to enable me to do other things with them. i.e: A = dE)
It would simply be: x^2, where x is the number of minimum characters required.. But I don't know how to interact that with 100 to find x.11
My IT-teacher has a website. Aside from it looking like from 1980 (which is ok), he has a "security js Mail decryption":
You can just run this link (open email app and read it) or use the same function and same href in the browser console and read it. It sounds so stupid.
(Yet I figured out he probably doesn't want bots to spam his mail, so maybe I am stupid)1
Did you hear about the cheese factory that exploded in France? There was nothing left but de Brie.2

I know "windows 10 bad" rants already have been done enough and are kinda redundant at this point.
But it's so frustrating for me when doing event stuff.
like yesterday during a quieter part I wanted to pull a USB thing. I knew I've turned of system sounds at least two times one this machine last year and sureley it didn't turn them on again, that'd be silly ...
And today I did some stuff and realized somehow the energy settings are at "balanced".
In the past I had went through every neccessary box to go Full Power, checked every neccessary box, but nOOooOo - lets randomly be balanced again. WTF?
And it's not like shit didn' work already - I remember the times when bluetooth actually was intuitive to use and settings didn't randomly change - is that what they think " progress" means?4
JSON de/serializer for C++, recommendations?
I used boost serialization until now, and it's fine.
But I will need to send some stuff over REST protocol to my future-web-GUI.
I would like something that is easy to build, not bloated, and could handle class serialization.
I turned my custom phone wallpaper into shirts, covers and other things. How do you like it? Would you wear it or would you improve it?
!rant had my yob interview today, i hope i left a positive vibe, they want me to meet de other devs to evaluate my level of skill. Pray for me i'm good enough for their custom php management tool3
I'll never understand distro hopping. You're having something that works fine and that you're used to. You can always change the look by using another DE. But you prefer to throw it all away, try something else, end up deceived, try something else.
Just, why? Educate me, what are you exactly looking for that makes you want to change after some time?11
TeamWork 1 week before release de projet
Guys i dont know why but all the projet is fuckup in Git ...
Me: where is your firts commit of all these shit ?
He: just there
Me : git reset eb23ae --hard && git push origin HEAD --force
Me: now you sit there and you play with your pencil ! 😡😠
AWS released their machine learning training portal for the public for free. You can get certified for 300$.
Gotta learn myself through vim and tmux because I have no choice. My laptop burst and all I have is a Raspberry Pi with Raspbian core + MATE DE installed. Don't really wanna use heavy stuff with it because it'll become really snappy.
Oh well, as long as I can code.9
Me and one teacher i got, both Linux enthusiasts, decided that we should create an open source community and spread the word to other students, teachers and stuff from the university about Linux and open source in general.
First meeting went well, we got quite an attendance, people seemed curious and willing to learn.
Second meeting is tomorrow, and we decided to show them some Linux distributions and DE.
Guess what, we can’t decide what to show them.
He is a pure Debian lover, i use both Debian and Arch.
He insisted on Mint since he didn’t want to scare them with Debian.
I said that we could show them Manjaro.
So what do we do?7
So I installed a new Linux distro, and since the DE is Gnome, I wanted to spice things up with a Conky file.
I download my conky theme, extract it, and try to run it.
And it's broken.
Apparently, the Conky development team decided it would be a great idea to switch over to an ENTIRELY FUCKING NEW SYNTAX, LEAVING EVERY CONKY THEME WRITTEN BEFORE AUTUMN THIS YEAR USELESS
Oh, no biggie, I think. After all, the development did very graciously publish a Lua file to convert old conky configs to the new syntax.
The file used to convert conky configs uses the old loadstring function, for which support was dropped in Lua 5.4
So not only did Conky make every config written earlier than this Autumn obsolete, the FUCKING TOOL THEY DEVELOPED TO HELP WITH THAT IS ALSO FUCKING BROKEN
Fuck Conky. I wasted 2 hours screwing with this broken-ass piece of shit3

I said OK.
And then the mf added "use emojis as symbols".
Like, damn, why not.
Expect me to make a sideloader for CSS and de-compressor and shit.

good evening folks,
im living in germany and want to get my first domain...
should i use ". de" or ". com", what would you prefer?
It should be an portfolio of myself if i finished it.
We have people from around the world here, how are you handling this? Does it matter at all?
thanks for help.7
When another developer has put a "Yolo" production log in de codebase and committed that to the release branch..2
Went to Colorado to de-stress, came back with a job offer and more stress. Not sure how I feel about this, but damn it I love Colorado.
Tools are made for various audiences. Git is the de-facto standard for version management, so it can be complicated because people will still learn it (they more or less have to). Editors aren't as standard and they are to be used from the minute you start learning, so they have to at least be usable without a course or a handbook. I prefer the first type of tool because to use something really good I don't mind reading a book. Programming languages can fall in either category; Python was meant to be used by laics and is therefore very simple, sacrificing a lot for the sake of simplicity. Rust isn't meant to be used by anyone who isn't trained, and it comes with a great book that explains all the most important gotchas. Haskell doesn't have an official book AFAIK, but it has the best wiki I've ever seen in a programming language.
Rant && SPAM alert!
I'm learning QML, to create plasma widgets and I wasted all the fucking day fighting with layouts and trying to understand why the settings window was not rendered (now it's rendered but I still don't understand why it wasn't before, the code is the same!)
so at the end of the day I ried to apply what i learnt in a fresh new widget that shows (some) PiHole statistics from its API.
on first run:
it runs fine, no errors... ok let's do some tests... turn off network, whole DE freeze WTF!?! one widget error (network error in this case) can freeze the whole DE.
restarted plasma, FIXED the bug (debugging process basically is:
try something - freeze - restart plasma - repeat
No more freeze!
if you're a KDE and pihole user and you want try my widget:
P.S: I'm adding right now a switch to quickly enable/disable pi hole over API directly from your desktop. i will push tomorrow.4
Ok, so let's say someone walks into your office and it's after-hours and you have decided to have a go at yourself because you work too much and need to de-stress. My question is, do you quickly stop and ask them what they want, hoping they didn't see what you were doing, or do you just finish?8
Used Ubuntu for like more than a year now, liked its Unity DE. Now they have gnome, which is "meh" for me. So I moved to Kubuntu. (Also trying out Manjaro)
Omg KDE plasma is so awesome o.o it's a whole new world, I am amazed. And everything is working just fine! And it is beautiful.

Why printer services is stuck in time?
The windows printer spooler is old like my grandma. He fuck all the time but nobody wants to recode it ? I need to search for old driver a day long to make it fucking work at 10%
On linux generic printer driver do the job but cannot do all the things you want
Why is so fucking complicated all the time ? ( Don't think that scanner work you don't have de correct driver )
Solutions printer share the code for how de fuck i work ?2
So yeah, my IDE is open and I'm just doing my daily rounds on SO when my rig suddenly feels like it's melting from playing Battlefield in 4K everything max. Chrome! Chrome! Chrome! It thinks were married, taking liberties with all my free real estate. You are out! Hey Firefox DE.1
So yesterday I installed Arch. Well, sort of. So far the GUI isn't configured so it's literally less convenient than an equally unconfigured TTY. But I'm getting there, today I connected to a secure Wi-Fi network. Tomorrow I expect to install something for power efficiency and start configuring stuff/creating a proper DE. Last time, when I stripped down Ubuntu and installed i3wm there, the first thing that bothered me was the lack of a wallpaper so I never got to issues like the keyring not unlocking, the x11 default font being two physical pixels tall, or added peripherals not being handled. This time my plan is to solve every issue as soon as I get there. For this reason I'll use a queue for managing my tasks rather than a stack like Google Keep.10
That moment when you settle with a Linux distro and DE that suits your needs perfectly (Ubuntu GNOME with Albert launcher and a couple of extensions) and someone starts acting like their choice is better because it resembles Windows.
Get. The fuck. Out.
I wanted to take a minute from y'all sucking on each other's dicks regarding language/tech-stack/os/editor wars to mention that Netflix just premiered Saint Seiya(here in the U.S don't know about the rest of the world) and it is pretty sweet.
Evangelion is in it as well, so if you've never had the chance to watch it and would like to well there is a nice chance :D
BTW bets are on: at least 1 or 2 fgits will say some shit about Netflix.2
Anyone else code to de-stress sometimes?
Just took a calc exam and now I’m going to work on a project I started today to help myself feel better about my impending doom.2
I just released my first decent npm package: https://github.com/zzyyxxww/abides
It took more work than I expected and releasing it means a lot to me since I had a non existent portfolio before this.
I wrote it because I didn't like the de facto validators and I just wanted to do things my own way.
i know creating js packages is usually ridiculed, but at least I created this with a conscience and good code coverage.
thanks for reading.5
How many of you have noticed that the girl in Justin Bieber's Sorry Lyric video uses Linux with GNOME DE?!2
The beta version of the new DEVRANT TOOLBOX is available now.
Its an unofficial web extension for Chrome and Firefox.
Chrome Web Store:
The certifaction process takes a long time, therefore I provided a direct download for the xpi file (for side loading).
Additional features: DUAL FRAME MODE (feeds left, rants right), themes (black, mono, darkgray, darkblue, comic, solarized), scrollbar plugin (perfect scrollbar, FF only), extended controls, fixed header, sorted userprofiles (by votes), autoreload (recent feed, 180 sec), highlighting new rants (recent feed), personal filter, image preview (mouseover), keyboard shortcuts, timestamps for rants, compact mode, colored notifs with clickable usernames, weekly rant.
I tested the extension with Windows Browsers only.
It would be great to get a feedback how it works with other systems!
Have fun with the toolbox.7

TL;DR: Fuck fucking Arch fucking Linux. Gentoo. Yay or nay?
So over the last few days my arch install has gone to hell. A small install of a package brings up some other update as it needs an updated version, then shit starts to segfault. I've been compiling anything and everything from sources rather than using pacman, and it works great. My DE has an issue with animations and does a FULL FUCKING KERNEL PANIC when I as simple as change what virtual desktop I focus. I'm genuinely so fucking done with Arch and I wish to change. I'm not touching Ubuntu with a 10 foot pole, nor any other Debian shit, so I'm wondering whether Gentoo might be it. Anyone got experience with it? Worth a shot for an experienced linux user?6
Replaced GNOME with mate I am impressed. It is so much better and lightweight than GNOME.
What de/distribution do you guys use/prefer?21
So, just to try this out, I'm going to temporarily "de-google" and use other services. What are the absolute best alternatives?16
I want to de-Google. I simply do not trust them anymore. They own pratically every single step of your online life. Does anyone here have tip for a good, alternative free e-mail provider? One with respect for my privacy, and not a company that makes billions of our society, but avoids paying taxes.13
Take the bitter truth @bittersweet told so sweetly.
Add this: If you want great software developers, don't put them into a dark room and teach them the theory of software development. Teach them the longing for the wide and endless space of possibilities.
> Quote after Antoine de Saint-Exupéry
So basically give them practical problems which them to desire the theory. Provide an integration of open source contributions into education. Online and offline.
GitHub is horrible. It takes the "de" away from the "decentralized" aspect of Git. Also, don't forget the part of the TOS that says Microsoft has all rights to your code regardless of license.19
Please be gentle, first rant. :)
Can you please provide me with literature recommendations:
1. Books about software architeccture, design patterns and best practices in general.
2. "Relaxation" books related to developer's life experiences, something like "The Phoenix Project" (https://amazon.com/Phoenix-Project-...). I really enjoyed that. :)
I am aware that this is not best use of rants, but I would really like to hear this community recommendations. Thanks in advance. :)9

Does somebody know a js library to make a route network on a map, like the ones airlines use. Where you can enter/click on the departure and it displays a forced node graph of the destinations from a database. Like this: http://easyjet.com/ch-de/...
Google shows only computer network related mapping stuff *sigh*3

You should have a giant snapshot of your software at the beginning of your website.
Even if you're an open source project. Some linux DE don't do this!
We're not in 1995.1
why.... why on this freaking earth would you go an enable Hypervision on me?
seriously #Windows, you are starting to drive me over the edge.
theres nothing like powering up a centos server - yea not even a DE, (that had no issues yesterday) and getting "VT-x is not available".
the last thing im going to think to look at is you enabling your bullshit despite it was already disabled,
This week the QA is on vacation, so we, the developers, are testing our own code (I test my partner's code and he tests mine).
For those who are QA, I have a question: If our boss omitted something on the description of how the code has to be made, for example, filtering data from database, and one of those filters are needed but the boss forgot to tell us and, at the time of making the tests, the QA and de dev team notice this... the change that has to be made should be marked as a bug? or how would you mark it?1
So the De-Cix Frankfurt operater sued the german secret service (BND) for taping into the traffic.
They are apparently trying to exclude Traffic from german citizens by filtering for .de domains... Because id never browse any fucking other websites! And not every german website uses .de domains.
The Government justifies this by saying ""If the calculated reference value (Amount of data collected) is increased only strongly enough, the BND (...) can monitor 100 percent of the traffic it really wants (" full take ")."
("Wenn die rechnerische Bezugsgröße nur stark genug erhöht wird, kann der BND (...) den von ihm wirklich gewünschten Verkehr zu 100 Prozent überwachen ("Full Take").")
When will they fucking learn, that mass surveillance is a fucking bad idea?

Budgie isn't my best match, but I'm not gonna go back to deepin either. It broke my heart and now I'm done so it can choke on my non-existant dick. *inset darth vader joke*
Can someone pleeeeeeeaaaaaase make some DE that looks pleasant (take lessons from kde/deepin/budgie/mac/whatever) and runs on arch? Please please pretty please?14
To all you linux fans out there:
What DE/WM would you use for a 2 monitor desktop setup?
I’ve tried i3 and a couple major DEs (xfce, gnome, kde,...) and i don’t really have a strong preference for either.
I like the efficiency of i3 but also the ease of use of - say - xfce. I’d definitely use i3 on a laptop, but i dunno what i should go for on desktop... recommendations?6
Another OneDrive rant? Nope, this one is more aimed at the wifi in the train. Dutch people assemble!3
in brazilian portuguese you don’t say friday you say “hoje é dia de maldade” and i think that’s beautiful4
Hi people first as you know my English is not very poor im sorry for that.
I try to make an automat a sprinkle water and a auto light on a interior garden in aquarium.
For that in python i use main thread, a class Water.py extends Threading and Light.py extends Threading
In the __init__.py file i put my main function that get argv for execution. One of my arguments is -v (--verbose)
I want to pass that args to my class instances.
-I don't want to make one parameter in my constructors because I think we don't passe verbose mode in parameter of constructor.
-I use global not working through de import.
Do you have some magic for me :/ ?6
So I made an website(just a fun project) that gives you a popular song(in Romanian/English) from an Array of songs, the song is random.
Can anyone go to the website and test it for stability and see how it works on older browsers.
And yeah, you can also listen to some Romanian music in this time :)9
So I ended up going with antergos and xfce DE on a cheapo 4gb ram i5 laptop.
It works, sometimes it hangs because of ram, but the thing that is infurating me the most is javaFX with animation loop (school course) whenever I run it, it works for a minute then oh good fucking Lord what happened to you!!!
It hangs, mouse doesn't work, and it takes like 10 minutes for it to respond back and somehow forcefully close the application, running that with task manager asude, I don't see anything critical, unless I'm reading this wrong
CPU averages around 10% and sometimes spikes to 70% few times
Ram is around 50%, swap is 50% too
What could the issue be in this case? I'm sure running the whole thing on windows this wouldn't have happened, what am I missing here?3
My neighbor asked me if I could make him a program for managing the wifi connection to his kids devices. Basically, he wants to be able to turn wifi on/off on selected devices, on demand. I know how to de-auth ALL devices temporarily, but that's not the goal. He asked because I am always looking for new ideas to work/practice on. And no, this isn't a vague post to try and get info on hacking into my neighbors wifi, lol... I set it up and have all the credentials. Is this within reach?14
On my list:
* John Romero (id Software)
* Yukihiro Matsumoto (Ruby programming language)
* Donald Knuth (LaTeX)
* Gosuke Myashita (serverspec)
* Johan de Wit (puppet guru and my personal sensei that taught me a lot of things and also a good friend I cherish)2
Playing "de boerderij van Piet Precies" on an old windows 98 machine of my parents. It's a game for little children about this farmer, "piet precies", who is quite a perfectionist and has everyting on his farm go in orderly fashion, but one day his animals start to "revolt" or something, and make a big mess (a cow in his bedroom for example).
Yup, late 90's kid ☺

I love unicode-table.com for what it does, but this does not seem right...
For those using i3 (especially in arch) could you tell me a bit about your set up and preferences? And what de/dm youre using and stuff
Its been recommended to me to use but id like to hear input from this community10
Could you please recommend me some (free if possible) sites for SW skill assessment (for example: sites with quizzes, problems, exams etc.)?
Dahhhh. Pay for a damn hosted CI server please, like Circle or Travis, so I don't have to maintain this crappy Jenkins instance. More "plugin" updates by default than a crappy wordpress site.
Talking of which. Circle CI has come on leaps and bounds since I last looked at it. So much nicer than Travis. Think this is going to be my de-facto CI solution for open source stuff from now on.10
not sure if actual bad habit, or just a natural consequence of what i'm writing often being de-facto "exploratory code" so the "bad habit" is actually the right choice, or...
but very often when i finish a functionality and look at the first version of the code, and realize how bad it is, and how it blocks me to implement following features... rather than just fix/improve that code, i just want to nuke all of it and write it from scratch again, and "better this time", because it seems like much less work and effort than trying to gradually fix it "in-place".
it definitely feels like a bad habit though, because it often results in me deleting and implementing to completion the same thing 4 times in a row.
Is learning VIM worth it?
I have some (probably unjustified) prejudices to it - I find it rather visually unattractive. But it seems to me also that it boosts productivity.
So do you recommend it and what is least painful way to learn it?5
Linux, you never fail to amaze me!
Started using Arch based Manjaro with xfce de couple of months ago. Everything was mostly fine even though I've never used anything that was based on Arch but it had a learning curve.
Couple of weeks ago I couldn't update my packages, I thought it would fix it by itself but I was wrong as you already probably know.
So yesterday I tried to manually fix it. Famous last words. After a lot of googling, trying some terminal commands - and failing, I see a warning labek on some text on the arch wiki - sudo pacman -Syi --force. I said fuck it and did it. Let's see if it works, I try to install a package, I mistype the name, press backspace - it puts a space instead of deleting?!?!?
I tried restarting, googling - nothing...
Guess I'll switch back to Debian based OSes.5
Ugh, tomorrow I have to work again again after 5 weeks vacation so I figured let's update my antergos installation on my work laptop so I can jump right into the current issues. Turns out something broke my installation 5 weeks ago to the point where I can't login into my DE. So here I am attempting to fix it before tomorrow starts, 3 hours in :l
I both love and hate Linux at the same time5
Reinstalling linux, any distro suggestion? I was using Manjaro, I very likely will again, but might use a different DE
I'm considering just arch, but can't think of any advantages7
I think I want to hop distro's.
Been using Manjaro xfce for like 6 months now. It's been really good(especially the AUR and software repos) but every now and then I found myself tinkering with weird probelms, especially when it comes to Nvidia drivers.
I need an easy to use, fire-and forget(auto hardware detection) distro with the newest software possible(I develop in Android and Node, and the most recent versions of IDE's and software are important.
I also don't want too much bloatware. I don't mind that much about customizability, as long as the default UI isn't ugly and hard to use.
Which diatro and DE you guys can recommend according to my preferences?1
It really sucks that there isn't a de facto package/dependency manager for c++. Conan, cppan, hunter, cget, lots of projects trying to fill this gap. Yet, none seems to be mature enough -.-
I feel inseparable from the i3 tiling window manager.anyone else with the same situation.also does anybody here use i3-gaps too4
Finally go around to de-Googling my phone:
Feels good reducing my tracking footprint4
I'm getting quite tired of gnome desktop, which DE should I try?
I've already tried Pantheon but I didn't like it much6
It's really strange to me that display servers/window managers (Xorg, Wayland, etc) aren't locked to given desktop environments (GNOME, KDE, Unity, Cinnamon, etc). It doesn't make sense to me that they are separate and not optimized together.2

Storing de-normalized data in NoSql when used to relational data feels like I am vomiting on the database
I couldn't find something on the internet, so maybe you can help me.
I run Debian + i3 on my laptop, and it takes incredible long, to start some software, especially from the Gnome-DE.
Does one of you know, why this occurs ?7
Question: How exactly is just changing the email client or browser you use actually protecting you from Google? For example, how does using ddg protect you if you use it with chrome? It sounds like actually de-google ing is a lot of fucking work.3

I've been for 1 month in my first job as dev and I have a demo on Wednesday about some stuff either I didn't do myself and nor have any idea of how it works. De demo is 6 mins with the full project tribe... from ppl over the globe... wish me shit.6
Spent all day testing different desktop environments and themes/icons. Finally settled for Vanilla Ubuntu with the Budgie-Desktop environment, arc-theme dark and paper icons. What are you running?3
I don't know how to feel right now, I finally start a new dev job tomorrow, which I'm pretty excited about. In the other hand my bike just got stolen while I was visiting some friends at my old school.

How do you know that you are stuck in a job without longterm perspective (besides some undefined gut feeling)?
And what to do then? It seems to me, only possible action is to change job. Is there any, less extreme, alternative?
friend: what os do you use?
me: arch linux
friend: what de do you use?
friend: what editor do you use?
friend: what file manager do you use?

friend: what browser do you use?

Why does the Android development environment keeps resetting? It’s been three times now. Pinche Android castroso de cagada 😒😒😒😒😒😒😒😒2
I recommend "Productvity Challenge Timer" for all you lazy guys who can't get shit done. It's a neat Android App which really helps me to motivate myself.
I want to use Linux again. I tried to use Ubuntu 16.04 and Linux Mint 18 before but for some reason my Laptop gets frozen randomly (and I think the kernels used in these OS are somehow responsible for it, because it was all okay when the kernel version was 3.xx) and I didn't get any solution from Ubuntu Forums, so I gave up.
So any suggestions? Which distro should I use? I'd love an user friendly DE (Like XFCE or Cinnamon) and good software availability.
And my Laptop also has a Touchscreen. I'd like to utilise it if possible.
P.S. Please go easy on me. I'm still learning.24
In recent time, I'm thinking about to start freelancing (or at least start preparing for it).
Problem is that I'm completely new to it. In following weeks, which steps should I take to successfully introduce myself to that market? Which mistakes to avoid? Which sites do you recommend?
Thanks in advance for contribution. :)
I've never been more impressed than when I discovered Linux. It's a pretty classical choice but I can't say another. It's my favorite because for every need you have, you get a solution to make it. Right now, I'm learning how xcb works to make a tool for DE like Rofi.
Most of all, Linux philosophy implies that the most popular (and almost always best) tools used on Linux are all open source. So now, I can learn xcb just by looking at the codes of other DE, I'm really in love with Linux
About #wk97, many trends aren't new things for example IoT is a evolution of Ubiquitous computing, NoSQL remember me xml database and oo database; but de good part is that are people improving this things and it's amazing :)
>the human mind cannot process non-Euclidean laws of physics and space
Yes it can. Non-Euclidean terms don't phase me. I've played too many games like Antichamber, removing laws of physics/the universe doesn't phase me.
How do I do these fucking things???2
Is there any point in having a compositor enabled? I only see advantages in disabling any compositor. Google only tells me that it can prevent misbehaving applications' UIs from being garbled, but that hasn't happened to me either.9
Not dev related, assuming that here is a lot of people interested in history , philosophy, books I would like to ask for recommendations for:
YouTube channels or site related to history, books reviews/recommendations (dev and non-dev related), philosophy.
...I was telling my friends one of the methods of de-crapping fresh installs of Windows that I use, and for some reason, I thought about this (old) meme.
So, I created, too. Might as well share it
Vlc stops working with a segmentation fault in Ubuntu ...Was working pretty well a week before..
If anymore of this happens..I am gonna wipe ubuntu and install some other OS.. De...Android studio and now vlc...
!rant That feeling you get when you run through your code perfectly after fixing the memory de/allocation :D So rewarding!
Try to teach to my girlfriend what is a class and what is a object.
Class is methods and attributes
My girlfriend starting sing "dans l'attribut de Dana" 😂🤣
Course is finish for today 🤣6
Do you use i3 (dynamic tiling windows manager) on your *nix system?
What are your favourite tips/hacks for optimisation?8
Just finished the Camino de Santiago from Sarria to Santiago de compostella on foot. Was amazing.
I wonder, are there any devranters from Galicia?1
I know this is not a de devrant, but I had a girlfriend for about a year. And today I found out she cheated on me twice the last few weeks.
How should a programmer deal with this?5
I purchased a preamp / compressor / de-esser / spectral enhancer / expander/gate to reduce noise from my mic. Its 1 item, it has a bunch of things you can touch and turn.
Now i just gotta figure out how to use it properly... xD2

Update on the ACPI booting error - i attempted to install antergos onto the SWAP partition (to try to rescue my files and then reinstall antergos) which was 8gb, which is too small to install antergos, a DE, and the bootloader. i wiped everything. Impatience is a bitch. why am i like this.
i also decided on using xfce rather than kde - i feel like it runs faster. I can get the kde WM right? i miss my wobbly windows
Welp, since I wasn't able to compile Vpython on Arch due to the broken API, I will try to do it in a VM running Ubuntu since they have a dedicate package for them.
It's also a good opportunity to try Budgie DE.
I really hate using outdated programs :(
Using ReSharper is like becoming enlightened, or de-brainwashing oneself to see true reality. Of my entire dev team, I'm the only one who can see the fnords!
Unused identifiers, badly sorted modifiers, unused property setters, redundant `this`/namespace, redundant casts... Surely if they could see them too, such code would not survive!
After 1 and half years of irritation with Cinnamon, finally got Unity working..😁😁. You realise the importance of something only when you are without them..
If some older employee writes the same code, nobody bats an eye. If a newer employee (with less than 2 years in the company) writes the exact same line, everybody loses their minds (in PR review)...
Not that I give too many fucks generally, but sometimes this partiality is annoying AF.

They really go over it step by step. Take a look

What do you think about Udemy?
And if you took it, which courses did you find most useful - not only related to programming/development but in general?
Thank you in advance. :)3
Been doing webdev for 2 years straight and I need a change of pace so in my free time I wanna do a project with either Java, c# or c++.
No experience with either of them and I have no idea what I could do as a project.
Do you experienced de s have any suggestions?
(looking for a somewhat expandable project as my skills become better so I can keep building it)
Would love to hear some ideas!8
Pink cheese green goes.
Do you listen to music that's not in English? Do you listen to music sung in Spanish? Do you know El Cuarteto de Nos? I'm not saying you should but... it's great.
The main singer in a systems engineer, and some lyrics have another meaning if you think about that. Look at Anónimo for an example.
For all you Dutch out there, or other people who celebrate Sinterklaas.... I know this a bit late ( mustard after the meal, right?), but I only found out about this place today.
Anyway, maybe you can use it next year, and who knows there are other uses for it.
It is: a way to assign a number of favors among a number of participants, making sure no participant has to do the same favor to the same other person twice.
I'm sorry, I can't find a way to make this sound any less sexy.
The pseudorandom generator is seeded with the year, so you can use it every year and everyone will get consistent results.
For the Dutch: een scriptje om meer dan één lootje te trekken met Sinterklaas. Sorry, daar heb ik ook geen minder sexy beschrijving voor. Je kan de namen per jaar invullen aan het begin.
And then I almost forgot to include a link: https://jsbin.com/waragireyo/edit/...1
Been looking for a light-ish, stable but beautiful (not outdated) DE. Any advice or opinions?
I'm torn between Mate, Gnome3, KDE and even XFCE.
I currently use Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS and I love the indicator applets and dock. I know the applets can be used in other DE's as well but I'm uncertain about the dock. Plank and docky don't feel right and I couldn't get dockbarx on Debian (which I experimenting with instead of Ubuntu).
I'm now considering just sticking with Ubuntu, install 18.04 LTS and change the DE to something new.
I will use it as a daily driver for programming, heavy Chrome usage and some games (via wine). What do you guys suggest?20
I have the following scenario with a proposed solution, can anyone please confirm it is a secure choice:
- We have critical API keys that we do not want to ship with the app because de-compiling will give access to those keys, and the request is done before the user logs in, we are dealing with guests
- Add a Lambda function which accepts requests from the app and returns the API keys
- Lambda will accept the following:
1. Android app signing key sha1
2. iOS signing certificate sha1
- If lambda was able to validate them API keys are sent back.
- Can an attacker read the request from the original (non-tampered) apk and see what the actual sha1 value is on his local network?
- If the answer to the question above is yes, what is the recommended way to validate that the request received is actually from the app that we shipped and not from curl/postman/script/modified version of the app11
I miss having cats when I was little... Too bad the place I'm staying doesn't allow pets or I would have some kitties to help me de-stress (probably would create stress as well, but they're kitties!)
So can you guys name one Linux distro that doesn't come preloaded with bloat, i mean Linux is better than windows since you have control, but i don't want to have fire fox out of the box i don't want fkin libre office can't we have a distro like arch but we don't have to go through the lengthy installation process. Maybe throw in the drivers and a bare bone DE of choice and that's it10

Hey Arch people! Wanna help a newbie get started? I'm very comfortable with sysadmin and are currently using Ubuntu with XMonad for DE.
I'd like to 'build' my own, super minimal system. It should preferably have gtk theming with XMonad as de. I've been looking at suckless and are currently wonder what I actually need to prepare/know in order for networking, VSCode(or learn vim), QT and docker to run on the system. It has a Nvidia graphics card and I'd like to use it for ML too.
Dont worry, I'm also going through the Arch page and are looking for answers to my questions & thoughts.. I just know I haven't thought of everything yet, probably not even all the basics.
Oh and please roast me for my ignorance, as long as you tell me something useful 😝6
Quand ta MOA te demande de réaliser des action en recette, que tu les fait sur l'environnement nommé REC mais qu'en fait, il fallait le faire sur DEV1...
sorry i don't know how to translate this...
I usually like sticking to a distro but when the DE I wanted to try and like at the moment in time couldn't be loaded onto manjaro without serious intervention I am deciding to try out void linux with anyone has any tips you can tell me5
Need an opinion if this is gunna work or not
I have a machine that currently has windows 10 de-activated and I want to activate it with a win 7 license, except, I don't want to lose the state of the machine.
Here's what I plan to do:
Clone the machine to an external drive, wipe and reinstall windows 10 and activate with windows 7 license. Get it to the point where it's on the desktop. Then clone it back to the state it was before.
The thought behind this is that the activation is tied to the mobo so the data/install of the actual windows doesn't matter.
I know this isn't exactly a dev question, but I figured its still kind of in the same area so it would be ok.
Thanks to all that reply ❤️15
I need recommendation for site/community to improve my (clean) code style?
And, in more general, what are your ways to improve code style and programming way of thinking - more oriented towards bigger picture of application/systems (patterns, architecture, etc.)?3

I installed arch on a 2012 MacBook pro today, that was fun, learned a lot more about Linux. Now, I don't know which DE to use.
I would use KDE, but last time I used it(recently) it reset the desktop configuration upon every boot, wiping panels and stuff. I'm sick of GNOME and Cinnamon, and XFCE is eh. Maybe i3?
Guys, is Akonadi server needed in KDE? It makes KDE startup so slow, that even Windows starts faster! There are some other processes that slow startup, but I hadn't found them yet
Can akonadi server be started after DE start is completed?
Always fun to watch if you know it, inspirational if you don't.

You know it's not that I don't like the midget who played Tyrion as an actor .. but why would they make him Cyrano de Bergerac?5
I need some recommendation for Web UI components framework which could be relativity easily integrated/used on Play framework web application.
Something like Primefaces or old Richfaces (but those are for JSF).
Thanks in advance. :)2
