I don't understand why some developers apply for jobs with .docx format CV.

Because that's what the site says it requires? :p

Is it because anyone can modify it on-the-fly?

    This!

Set your mail server to deny that automatically :)
If he can't even read the cv requirements, why to expect him to read actual tasks description

If you think send a tex file is really cool, then you are so wrong 🤦‍♂️

Unless specific formats are required, you always ship a distributable — print, convert, build, compile, or whatever works for your current medium...

I've seen developers send their CV in both Excel and PowerPoint formats, which is probably the last thing you'd ever want; at least a Word-document shows that you can use software for their actual purpose and write using a word processor :)

@sunfishcc Would you mind explaining this one to me? I've just started learning tex and it seems like a CV would be really nicely presented within tex.

@Jamie Yes, no doubt we only send PDF to companies.
However, agencies normal ask you for editable file, so they can change lil bit before send to their clients.
If you give them a file they have no idea how to compile and their are hundreds of resumes on the waiting list, they won't ask you again.
Simple, meaningful - these are all you need.

Plain text is nice. Pretty editable though

    @IllSlapU I’ll tell you why:

    1) You potentially need Word installed to open it
    2) it’s editable anyone can change it
    3) PDF is the correct format.

@sunfishcc Ah. Thats true if this is for an agency. Thanks for the clarification

On the other hand, @onlinechris, docx is:
    1) an open format
    2) lightweight
    3) known to be modifiable

It's still not good for distribution or publication, but it's got it's uses :)

@Flygger old course, docx is the standard for sharing text based documents however for developer CV it’s not appropriate IMHO.

Send a link to your git and a pack of Swedish fish.

I don't make a resume anymore, I use Ceev.io (free chrome extension) and it auto-generates a snazzy PDF layout from your LinkedIn profile.

Im tired of constantly updating my resume so now I just keep LinkedIn up to date and generate one when I need it.
