I will say one word: innovation. iPhone has a separate chip for ml and ai, don't know about the camera.

Wow. I guess someone need to be a bit retarded to believe such bullshit. Also, synthetic test? WebView tests? Give me a break. After all those bought test results and manufacturers overclocking CPUs when those tests are being done? Idiotic.
Although I can believe that those results may or may not be real, I don't think they reflect user experience in any way. They also looked biased as fuck.
Obviously I'll be now marked as a Samsung fanboy. I don't really care. I've had few iPhones, Symbian devices, Android devices and just recently bought SGS8. My first Samsung phone and I have to say that I'm pretty happy with it.

While I agree this test is not a definitive test covering every aspect of the CPU’s. I’ve seen multiple reports year after year which all show the same thing: Android phones single core performance is horrific.

Given how JavaScript is single threaded, and it’s prevalence across the web, this directly impacts user experience across websites, web apps and anything or hybrid tool that uses web views.

Jeff Atwood (creator of stackoverflow and discord) has frequently blogged on his frustrations on Android devices and their poor performance. He has more than once had to scale back features because the user experience was terrible on Android.

While there are probably other areas where it exceeds, or has more features, it’s pretty shocking how badly the CPUs stack up year after year. At the time it was released, the pixel 2 was on par with a 4 year old iPhone of half the price

Yeah, I'm sure that cultofmac.com is an unbiased source. But seriously, mobile benchmarks are literally meaningless.

And if you get a modern Android flagship it will feel just as smooth as an iPhone. The only problem Android has is RAM management. Aside from that it's pretty much cought up and the only reason to buy an iPhone anymore is if you want the Apple logo on the back.

@tiberius1900 yes it is cultofmac, but since it’s saying the same as many other sources I think it’s fine to assume it’s not a conspiracy theory, and accept maybe Android and it’s manufacturers aren’t perfect.

Yes benchmarks are meaningless because ... speed isn’t an issue? speed of processing / rendering doesn’t affect UX? I’ve read countless articles about response times affecting experience, web traffic and user reviews / opinions. I’ve used high end Androids and don’t for a minute think they are as snappy on websites / browsers.

Everyone is highly critical of every inch of Apple products, but the second there’s a bit of proof that Android isn’t perfect, everyone says it’s meaningless or irrelevant

No one is contesting the fact that iPhones are a bit snappier then Android phones. And if that's all you care about, fine, get an iPhone. But once you get past a point of snappiness (that Android has long since reached imo) your phone is faster then your reaction time so it doesn't matter.

After that, all that matters is features and I'm sorry to say this, but Android just kicks the shit out of iOS in this regard.

And I'm not saying Android is flawless, the fact it's based on Java is the most retarded decision ever made when it comes to OS design, RAM management still sucks, updates are a pain (hopefully that's getting fixed) etc.

But compared to the problems Apple has, man these seem like minor nitpicks.

I think it is possible for mistakes and errors to pop up from time to time, maybe they didn’t intend for it to be slow but it just worked out that way

Apple does a good job with their chips, there's no question. However I've found that the real world application is more meaningful. I like the YouTube channel 'Phone Battles'. It does phone comparisons by running through realistic tasks. For example, holding apps in memory for a period of time, speed in opening and loading apps, ease of app switching, etc. It's interesting to see a $499 phone like the OnePlus 5T beat out the iPhone X in terms of ease, speed, battery, memory, and more. I'd rather a "slower" phone if it means better real world results.

Who would even buy one of these? It's the same hypocrisy as iPhone... I get a £100 Chinese phone once in a while and works exactly the same. Fuck these shitty phones.

@mzeffect yeah, but some of the problems are the long shipping times, no updates (apart from Xiaomi) because they use mediatek processors, and non-existent warranty.

@josersanchez you don't need warranty for something so cheap... Updates.. Well I can live without the new Google photo editor or whatever is actually new in android. Shipping time is usually not an issue since I can find plenty on ebay that's already in the country 😀
