MacOS is not based on GNU anything. It has bash, but that's basically it. Almost everything else is from the BSD camp.
You can install GNU coreutils and all the rest with homebrew though. I did and gave them a better PATH placement.
I'm a huge fan of iterm2. It's easily my favorite terminal emulator. I like that the opengl based GUI is accessible with an open API, allowing for userspace apps to do great stuff with it.
For system administration and development, MacOS is a solid OS, in my opinion. I do prefer Linux over it, and that's what I use at home, but in the office, if I have to use a proprietary OS, then I will choose MacOS over Windows any day of the week.
However, if they try to replace my 2015 MacBook Pro with the newer version without an escape key, then I will opt for a Dell and install Linux on it. -
@stisch don't talk to me about sbt, i come from Java world where maven at least need one minute to resolve deps/compile, while in scala in some big projects i need to wait 5-7 minutes

@Kimmax It's a user problem and that's exactly what i'm talking about: why tre fuck apple want to do the super simple and standard things very different, for what reason?
I feel a dumb while i'm using the Mac and this is not what a user should feel only because comes from another os/laptop.
I remember when i started with Linux, kde was my first gui, i felt ok to switch from windows. No pain really, until i started using bash for my first time but this is another story 😂 -
