Kinda like this but local to the desktop?

@ryanmhoffman @FATALITY let's not get into that old argument again, please. It's about as done as Windows update sucks posts.
-
@FATALITY I'm not asking you to back up your opinions, I was just looking for clarification. That said, I disagree with everything you mentioned, but again, that is only my opinion.
-
@FATALITY whoa boi, calm down.
If you have a genuine rant about Windows update, something other than "oh look it's been stuck at 27% for the last six minutes or whatever, let's post it on devRant for ++ showers", then please, go ahead. Otherwise, just switch to a different OS if you hate it that much. -
@RememberMe switching os won't help... They all have their quirks. Windows is updates, Linux is gaming support and various things breaking for seemingly no reason, Mac is freaking expensive and have their own issues, especially recently.
-
@FATALITY I totally get what you mean. But software is also a lot more capable these days (say, look at the initial designs of the Linux kernel vs the design of version 4). But yes, it's annoying.
-
@iamgio sorry we kinda hijacked your rant with off topic bs. Short answer it isn't a bad idea and it is possible, and Java is a decent language for it because of its cross platform nature.
-
@ryanmhoffman yeah. Hence my current Windows + Linux setup. I use each OS for what it's good for - Windows for gaming and content creation, Linux for programming.
-
Yeah, @iamgio, sorry.
Getting back on topic, Java is definitely capable enough to do all that, you could maybe have a go at it with some 3D programming library like libgdx? -
nikmanG15397yThe language is almost never the barrier. Also Java is really versatile so it is possible, just ethically a god awful choice - I mean who wants clippy 2.0?
-
iamgio38327y@ryanmhoffman no problem.
As far as I know, Java can't create graphic stuff that stay constantly in the UI
And, even if possible, performances would suck -
nikmanG15397y@irene squeak, squeak, angry squeak. And when the problems get real “fuck this shit I’m out”

See you in court!

Just kidding, I don't give a fuck.
Great minds think alike. -
@gurumeditation you gave permission at the end of that rant to steal the idea and become a millionaire. That lawsuit won't stand!
Also *great minds think like mine*

What about creating a virtual-devduck?
A duck on the bottom of the screen that sometimes does weird stuff and says something so you can talk to her and try to debug
I want to do this but I don't think it's possible with Java :(
