@Wisecrack Not difficult to get accounts, posting, voting, tagging, searching, notifications, feed, api, etc. working. (Would take time, though.) Avatars would be more difficult. The “pipeless” bit (the “subscribed” activity)… I don’t know.

I know there have been some attempts to scrape the db via api in order to preserve everything, though I don’t know how those fared.

I doubt the energy would be the same. We simply wouldn’t have the same community.

@Wisecrack @Root I did duplicate a big part of the place (16gb or so) and have a functioning devrant running on my server. Some finishing touch of a designer and we have something cool and it could have features like syntax highlighting and stuff.

But the platform is not the problem that we decline users. All I know, is that if I would create an alternative, a part will go there, and a part won't, ending both communities.

I have no idea why we decline, I mean, maybe life's to good to rant? Reddit & Co competition to hard? I dunno, here and on Snek we have such unique people that maintain a happy site with no moderation. That's why I love it here, the total freedom which is not abused. It's a unique place on the internet. I can't go to reddit. You do not write your opinion there, it gets downvoted. Here, you only get a downvote when you're misbehaving. Way better culture. Reddit cancel culture.
