balte22917ythings like Skype and email etc. will work great as pwa.
there are reasons why games and other compute heavy apps might become pwa's but there are also reasons why they won't. -
-vim-31257ySoftware that is adequate to web technology (not compute heavy or that kind of stuff) and that are cloud based, like lightweight email clients, social medias and that kind of stuff is great, but if you have like a game or an app that does a lot calculation or that isn’t best suited for js, then you might not want to use PWAs.
And just a non-related thing, at my college, we have ipad (sadly, didn’t find yet how to boot from my arch usb key install) that are monitored, and they can block all apps except the ones they want (whitelist), but PWAs aren’t blocked, so I could create an offline one, load it, and have anything I want, I could even make it look like an allowed app -
SSDD47607yThey won’t take off until Apple starts to play ball. And Apple likely won’t ever do that.

I think more than 50 percent of the applications I use in daily life, both personal and professional, are PWAs already.
All the office stuff is gone, email too, and next thing you know the whole dev environment is cloud based -
@JoshBent you're right, but it's not very widely used. Many prefer 'local' development

@SSDD best part, they're throwing service worker support under the bus by automatically removing them after three weeks

What's everyone's opinion when it comes to PWA's?
Do you think they will have the potential to replace most desktop and mobile applications?
Personally think they are a great platform and could definitely see them replacing lots of current applications but feel like the web technologies can't catch up to some of the major requirements for higher level apps like game engines or games...
