I saw something about a dR user downloading all the data they have on him and it mentioned a phone call he took.
-
@jhh2450 isn't that weird, they wouldn't let that out normally. Why would they.
Maybe he made calls on messenger, then I would understand the call logs being available to FB. -
@peterSabs Oh shit you can make calls inside messenger? Lmao I don't use that piece of shit app. Never have, never will.
-
If you have the fb or dj messenger app, you have to give it loads of permissions and one of those gives Facebook the power to collect text messages (including metadata) and the metadata of phonecalls.
Don't believe me? Read their ToS and privacy policy :) -
I just checked my permissions, and phone and messages are there alright.
I am assuming that by clicking "I Agree" on installing, somewhere in that long AF letter, these things are there. Shit. I don't know how to feel about this. -
Root797707yFacebook messenger listens to the mic, even when running in the background.
This means it can absolutely listen in on phone calls -- your end of it, at least. If both people use messenger, they'd receive the entire conversation. They're not the NSA, though, so they probably won't put them together, but they'll still use everything they have to target ads, build a psychological profile of you, refine their associations/interests model, predict your actions, etc. -
@Root I downloaded my data and died inside at the chat logs from like 7 years ago. 😐😐

@Condor I was 11 but that was definitely too young..... A large piece of me died from cringing so hard

For some reason, my roommate thinks Facebook can track his and all our calls.
I don't know the beginning or the end of what they can/can't do, but that just has to be BS... right?
