In Italy (Milan)๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น, job hunting is a fucking hell for misfits like me:
• Young(26)
• 1 year(working) experience + continuous learning/improvement at home
• Skillful and adaptable full-stack
• Willing to do greater things with software without being payed like a monkey

This is the last week working at my current company (from which I rejected the renewal of the contract for 26K€/13 months) and almost every time at a new interview everyone tries to down sell me by default or because of the fucking little time that I've been inside companies without even looking at my skills/capabilities.

Also many little companies made by the CEO and a technical manager that are looking for someone from which being provided food ๐Ÿ˜’(metaphorically).

(On another side, in one month, me and my gf need to move to a new apartment, the renting process sucks, and she has issues to find a non-slavering job because she is a foreigner(with good knowledge of English and Chinese) with very basic understanding of Italian and I see her crying often in my arms because it's hard and stressful for her to become economically independent as she would like to be)

@rookiemaverick I didn't accept because I'm sick of the old project and ETL staff that I've been doing.

Is moving to another country an option?
  • 0
@Collie Both of us think yes, but in practice it's more complicated (I'm in the process of getting a citizenship here)

I know Italy is fucking trash when it comes to ICT, except for a few prestigious realities. I reccomend you give a look at FBK (Trento). They've got awesome opportunities :) As an italian student I can relate to what you're living quite well. Keep pushing!
  • 2
Aww, that's sucks to hear :(
I was born and raised in Milan, but I moved to the US for grad school and am about to start a job here in a couple of weeks. I guess I'll never be able to come back home if that's the situation
  • 1
I'm from Milan too, you should move to Germany or Netherlands
  • 0
    @senzory can't, already answered why.
  • 0
@slinkydeveloper From what I've read in Germany, on average, they look down on you if you don't have a finished CS degree ๐Ÿ˜’. Tell me if I'm wrong.

South Italy's job system is 100x worse!
I hope to go to England/Scotland in the future.
Pizza and coffee are the only good things here
  • 2
@iamgio I lived for 15 years in south Italy, I understand you.
  • 2
@okstar its worse when you have "Hauptschule" (lowest school degree) or no degree
  • 4
Yeah, come to Sweden, we need some more devs here. Too much work too little devs.
  • 2
    26k for only 1 year of experience!? I’d say you’re doing a’ight.
  • 5
Man MOVE away from Italy you speak English your gf speak English. Just go.

    -----

Vai via, da retta, in qualsiasi parte fuori dall'Italia sarai più apprezzato come developer.

@stop I even have an unrelated to CS high school degree, only because I made a wrong choice when I was teenager. How this sounds like?
  • 1
@Brolls if is gross and In Milan is nothing. 47% goes away the rest is net, one bedroom apartment starts from 800 euro
  • 1
@donnico 47% of that goes to tax?! Yikes. Get out fast.
  • 1
    @Brolls tax and pension yes
  • 1
@Brolls that's before taxes... And Milano is expensive ๐Ÿ˜’
  • 0
@PaulTheSaltyDev can't, I'm in the process of getting an European citizenship
  • 2
Go to Ireland or Germany or United Kingdom. If you have the time/patience/luck to go through the visa process, go to United States. If you don't care about human rights, go to China. It'll be easy for you to find well-paid jobs in those countries if you're skillled.

Damn bro. I hope and wish all the best for you. Got you in my prayers. For real. ๐Ÿ™

@donnico I can't, I'm in the process of getting a citizenship for the next 2 years
  • 0
@donnico even without pension it's already challenging
  • 0
@stacked can't, the reason is in the discussion ._.
  • 1
@okstar you *have* an degree. the most people in hr in germany have an hardwired brain.
not in cv = not existent
  • 0
@stop interesting to know. Do you have more insights?
  • 2
    I know your feel bro.

I am italian and i am a senior java developer (5+ years)

I started in Rome with shitty body rental companies.

I moved with my wife in Bologna, where i worked with a shitty software developer company and another body rental company.

I hate recruiters and i hate when they search me for a "interesting" job opportunity = another shitty work for another shitty body rental company for a shitty salary

Finally now i am working for a startup that works with blockchain: it's hard but finally i am wokring on a great project and i am learning many wonderful frameworks and technologies: Spring Boot, Ansible, Vagrant, Docker, Jenkins...
  • 1
Well, that's awful dude. I really don't know a lot, I just graduated last year and been working like 6 months so far. But reading about the taxes and the basic stuff like rental and other things, maybe it'd be better to move out to another place if possible.

I want to move from my country, not because I don't like it, but because I want to get to know more countries.

  • 2
Oh come on...no recruiters here PLEASE!
  • 1
@snakebyte not a recruiter here, just another developer
  • 2
    @fabioconcina @snakebyte @Pointer @okstar easy to check:

I have 10+ years of experience in vuejs 5+ years experience in flutter and I am a CSS module guru.

Also I have a degree and I speak 2 language fluently. Would you hire me?
  • 2
@donnico we're not developing for mobile and you're more focused on frontend

Also flutter is 1 yr old, com'on
  • 3
@fabio and I am an asshole coz I mentioned frameworks alive since 4 years max and I put 10+ years.

    Good job ;) bravo!

Still not sober to comment. Take the job, haven't ever seen a monkey leaving a branch without having any other branch in hand or sight.
