The public seems to be worried a lot on the Facebook "data breach" yet doesn't bat an eye on a bigger website that has already been selling private data for more than a decade.

    As a search engine, who on devRant uses Google anyway.
    For other things, google, apple and Microsoft have a pseudo monopoly.
    You just can't do anything

    They are too busy trying to understand how these companies make money with free services :P

    Seriously though, after watching Zuckerberg testify I was shocked at how clueless a lot of people are about the internet.

    @irene isn't it will shared with advertisers?
    Shouldn't all ads related to what you do even after you opt out?

    @irene They do provide access to user data (PRISM program) but mostly only at government level.

    I saw a documentary yesterday though in which it was suggested that DeepMind (falls under Google but still an external company) has admin level access to googles datacenters. So not too sure about any of this haha

    @Condor yes ofc.
    Facebook distributes data via api whereas Google provides data to advertisers

    What I think is that the government needed an escape goat to blame privacy issues on. It could’ve been everybody but unfortunately for Zuck it was Facebook.

    @g717 makes sense. These creeps always kept people under surveillance. From phone calls to internet records even before facebook
