C0D4669027yThere’s almost no point, take screenshot instead?
Do you really need to paste live code into here? -
@j4cobgarby one reason might be it will destroy the rant list with tons of styling. I rather have it plain and simple.
So Im okay if its in the rant "details" but not in the "timeline" -
While i agree on the idea of markdown thingies, i strongly suggest to leave long/big things behind, as no one will benefit from entire code blocks or bold paragraphs or so on.
But a little more stylish subtle elements like bullet points, colored or slightly altered "A: ... \ B: ..." rant format, little (i dont know how is called) horizontal line to cut text for things like !rand/!story might actually add value to the post, without giving means of spamming.
Anyway, as i just confirmed my previous guessed information, devRant has limited resources to invest in developing non critical feature and such i dont even hope that this text mardown support to be implemented in the near future, but we no matter what, will always kindly appreciate all the efforts of the developers, as a dev would appreciate his owns 😀 -
Just code formatting would be sufficient.
When I'm chatting with another dev in discord, it's a pretty handy feature. -
webdev21977yhonestly with no offense, what I see here is "gimme that shiny thingy we don't need"
A few days ago I had a rant about wanting to buy a macbook I didn't even need. Later after talking with friends, coworkers turns out I wanted it just for the sake of surprising myself. I think this is a really similar situation.
The rant feed will become silly. -
I disagree, there is no need for this feature at that stage of the app, also many people will abuse it in order to get attention.
-
Not the full MD, but just a base set, like italic, underscore, strike, bold lists that sort of thing. I think SO is better for huge code blocks ;)

bahua128017yThis is a community for technically minded people, but one thing I really like about it is that here, more than anywhere else, users are expected and encouraged to use their words, in lieu of technical enhancement to the overall discourse.

@AlexDeLarge @Alice
Here's the rule I would follow: if it can't be displayed in a terminal, it's too fancy for the app. Bold, italics, underline. All supported in most terminals. All useful for emphasis. All good options. I support those three options.
Syntax highlighting? Suck a dick
Text alignment? Coloring? Font size? Images? Fuck that.
Bold? Yes daddy. -
@Codex404 Text alignment and coloring is. Font size and images aren't. Not without some serious fuckery.
-
bahua128017yNot trying to be argumentative or disqualify anybody's position, but images and font sizing are fully supported in the virtual terminal. No fuckery necessary.
