DomNomz547yMaybe it's the hardware at fault not the OS. 🤷 Doesn't matter how much ram you've got if it's bottle necked by other stuff
-
@otavio I'm not finished setting everything up yet and I'm positive it is going to get worse.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Windows... I'm just not looking forward to building my development environment in Windows again. -
@DomNomz If it's a hardware issue, I would expect similar problems in a different OS on the same hardware. Alas, my Debian-based bootable drive clearly demonstrate that Windows is utterly incompetent at text/DPI scaling and color profile matching.
I think the RAM will be fine but Windows is not as efficient at management as alternative operating systems. -
Been rocking windows 10 since its release, no issues atm, cant say the same about the past. Maybe try run some windows updates ? They do actually do things sometimes
-
Voxera113887yBeen using windows for dev since 1990 and have never had any such problems, and I have no problem using linux either, on the other hand, my favorite text editor is Vim ;)
-
I use two displays without any issue.
Perhaps you should upgrade to something newer than 1503. -
Yes multi monitor with different resolutions are a pain in Windows. So many glitches.
-
Never had a problem, but you know what they say.. "99% of the problems are located between the monitor and the user."
-
I use Windows with two monitors.... The only thing I agree is: text scalling in win10 initial builds was broken... Better in newer releases... Which build are you on?

Forside14597yYou cannot blame the OS for different colors on different monitors. Yeah, color profile stuff may not be the best in windows, but I had problems with it on Linux too. All green became pink (@Alice would have loved that), and somehow I got it working by tinkering with the color profiles, which was also a nightmare, because sometimes the profile was directly applied, sometimes just after an X restart, which I didn't think of first because other profiles directly worked (or at least seemed to be working because something with the colors changed).
Other problem with Linux (Ubuntu Budgie) I had: Display the Taskbar (panel) on multiple monitors. Simply wasn't possible. I know there are other distributions out there which can probably do this and Arch is the solution to everything, but I liked the system. Only help the web could provider me was to wait for an update in the *far far* future, as the devs are working on it. -
bjoer751777yIf you really need color calibration for work, just invest in a Spyder5Express.
Takes about a minute per screen, and beats what you're able to do using only your eyes as a tool, with a magnitude. -
DannySu10887yMany of my colleagues using 6 monitors , I use 3, with win10. Only thing that slows the wakeup process is the monitor turn on time, not the os. You should check your graphic card driver
-
@Forside I don't so much blame the OS for the problem as I blame it for not helping with a solution. We're stuck at an earlier build of Windows 10 because of McAfee... Yay corporate PCs.
Update:
➖ After some considerable time tinkering with the monitor menus themselves, I have mostly solved the color issues.
✔️ DPI scaling fixed by NOT DOING THAT... Why Microsoft defaults that setting to "broken" I don't know.
✔️ Make all screens use the same resolution and reboot a lot after setup... Seems to be stablizing some.
❌ RAM turns out is a corporate issue... McAfee we're stuck with is sucking a considerable amount down. More tinkering required.
At the end of the day, I have a tool and I have to make it work. I don't have to like it.

Windows 10 as a development environment... Oh freakin' goody.
📍Multi-montor is finicky
📍Text scaling is still horribly broken
📍It takes longer to resume from standby than my old laptop takes to boot up from a cold start
📍Color matching LCD monitors is pants-on-head retarded
📍32GB of RAM isn't going to be enough...
This is going to be a long summer in corporate land.
