for a second there I thought you'd use a desk to actually sit on as an alternative to standing desks; sitting desk lol
what type of communication do you have with the team? from what I experienced as soon as there's actually empty desks in the office that are located in the same building/level, people can request to move or just ask (depending on what type of company you're working for) - but if there's no communication channels in place, but physical, it would take another step; implementing e.g. slack or microsoft teams, just for you to move office/desk -
appmaker3956y@JoshBent I work for a non-profit. We have a small team of 8 tech people with me and the CTO as the only developers. We use slack for team comm. I always prefer walking to the respective person if I have any not so important questions. In that way I get to do some walking rather than sit all the time. But I was told that I don't get to choose my sitting spot (desk)
-
@appmaker that's tough shit then, I have no idea on why somebody would decline such a request, if all other channels are set in place already
I thought about suggesting getting others on your side, but that might end bad and they'll get the places you like instead, thanks to murphy's law
Is there any middleman between you and your manager you could raise the topic to? -
appmaker3956y@JoshBent I raised it to the CTO but he told me to talk to the manager lol. In my employment letter, the CTO is my "Supervisor" but the CTO always asks me to talk to the other lady who I am stating here as my manager.
-
@appmaker depending on how much shit you're willing to stirr for that desk, you could go to the CTO and raise that issue, that the manager is declining it, although there's no issues with moving desk
-
appmaker3956y@JoshBent I just did. Just slacked him this - I spoke to r***** about my desk place. She says I have to move and I should be with the tech team. She says she did not get to choose her desk so I won't get to choose mine. I like to work at my current desk and I think I feel very productive here. I will leave the decision up to you. If you think I should still move then I will move but it will effect my productivity being cornered and I will definitely be unhappy about it.
-
@appmaker I am confused, so you lied? or was this all started by the manager wanting you to move place? also wasn't the idea for you to get to anothet place that has the view, but you didnt mention any of it to the cto?
-
appmaker3956y@JoshBent this was started by the manager. I am currently in the "good view" spot but my manager wants to move me but I don't want to. I caught the CTO while he was walking to a meeting and told him I don't want to change and that's when he told me to talk to the manager. I am sorry if I am confusing you.
-
@appmaker ah I get it now, well keep us updated on what the CTO tells you, hopes up that you can stay at the nice view desk

Should you be able to choose which desk you can sit on in your workplace? There are plenty of empty desks and some of them have a good view of the outside. My manager says i don't get to choose and that I should sit with the technology team. Am I just being stupid?
