stop68677ydid you heard that overtime pay exist or that some companies give you 1.5 hours per hour overtime as money or free time?
-
What if you just don't work overtime? What are they gonna do, fire you for not working unpaid overtime?
-
I don't work, so don't kill me if I'm wrong.
Don't you get a promotion or something if you work overtime? I'm not even sure if you even get promotions in this industry, but I would imagine that's that happens when you work overtime. -
taglia5717y@Michelle nope. no promotion, just a small overpaid time, and not everytime.
Where I live, law states that overtime (for our domain) goes from 21:00 to 07:00. If the employer ask you to work during this period of time, he should pay every hour 50% more.
But this happens only if he directly asks you to stay. If you stay because YOU want to finish something, then that's not overtime :/ -
@taglia
Ohh, I see. Thanks. I don't understand why anyone would want to do that... -
notkud197yYes, it should... no money, no worky. Everyone who says otherwise can fuck off. No, I will not murder my free time for your company. :)
-
soulsuke7317yMost of the time though, refusing overtime means taking responsibility for any delays with the project, even if it's because of a last minute idea of the marketing department which 'just has to be included'...
-
RakNoel6737yIn Norway we have laws for this... we can even demand food after x hours overtime. Ofcourse only if the overtime is mandatory or asked for! But still...

notkud197yDelays be damned. If whoever misjudged what a reasonable project timeline was, left unreasonable windows for tasks, and didn't leave reasonable wiggle room for inevitable roadblocks, BOO FUCKING HOO, you'll just have to pay me for my work proportional to the hours (WHAT A NOVEL CONCEPT). I already work like a professional and an adult at grueling pace during working hours, and I'm not putting in my evenings or weekends in addition without being paid in addition. I've already been down that road, trying to be "a good employee" with unpaid overtime. But you know what? That's for fucking chumps. Fuck you, pay me.

notkud197yOH. AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON SCOPE CREEP. If the requirement wasn't in the requirements list at the start of the project, guess what? IT'S NOT GOING IN THIS RELEASE HAHA (unless it's to fix a catastrophic/safety issue not previously accounted for). I don't well work with people who don't write requirements up front -- those people are idiots. They come inevitably though, and when a last minute feature comes... you will pay for it.
Anyway, a good program manager will never let your scope creep, or you'll be there all damn year.
