Today I wanted to activate the gzip compression on the site of a customer before delivery.

Unfortunately the hosting service (the most popular in France) did not activate this module on its servers. Why in 2016, this module is not enabled by default !

    @skonteam No, 1&1, check his tags

    why don't you host your own servers on DigitalOcean in 2016??!

    @mxdpeep why choose a provider with bandwidth limitations? i mean srsly. I realize the limits are fairly arbitrary, but it's a matter of principle dangit! :3

    @yusijs which limitations??

    @yusijs the question here is why to cry over hosting providers when you can host the files yourself

    @mxdpeep
    512MB Memory
    1 Core Processor
    20GB SSD Disk
    1TB Transfer

    again, I realize it's arbitrary but principles! :p

    @mxdpeep I agree, I'm using online.net atm. have a dedicated server I'm paying 20€ per month for.
    2x450gb SAS
    3.2 Ghz Xeon cpu
    16 gb of memory
    1gbps network

    I love it, never experienced downtime, and it's running a separate vm for my gitlab server! :D

    @yusijs well, it's $5 a month = I spend more every day for supper, currently running some 25 VPS on DigitalOcean

    @yusijs that's probably you don't know DigitalOcean well > have you ever tried cloning?? like 90 clones of your machine? clustering? what about snapshots?

    @yusijs dedicated server is a difference to machines paid on hourly basis, that I can boot up in a minute and destroy the very moment job's done

    @mxdpeep true enough, altho I'd most likely use google cloud for stuff like that. Only clustering I've done is on a physical blade system for geoprocessing.

    Again, the only reason I made that tongue-in-cheek comment was that they even mention a transfer limit. its 2016 man.

    OMG.. 1and1 share with me on Twitter some tips and Developer Hacks that don't work instead of simply activate the gzip module on their servers.

    @Letmecode Yep, It's à shame. I'm forced to deal with my grade A(90%) on GTMetrix. ^^
