"what's the update?" - Team Lead

For every fucking idiotic task given, every 3 hours, as if the world is gonna end, while all you did in that time was have a tea, chat for a while, send a few mails, sat with a few co workers and checked up on them.

And then he gives me all these "tricky issues", which are apparently critical, and demands updates with a higher frequency! Never sat with me to solve even one of them. Not one.

I never thought that I lacked the basic common sense to update you as soon as I fucking have one.

Ooh, also loop in the senior manager right before annual appraisal. There goes my hike!

Micromanagement, the worst kind of management.

Sadly I've seen instances where it's required as the dev would literally sit on their hands unless told exactly what to do all the time.

A good manager should be able to vary management style depended on the dev and their work ethic. Someone who does get on with work should be left to get it done, with support when they need it. Updates just during the daily standup should suffice!

Sadly there are far more bad managers then good.

Instead of keep asking you, he would have joined with you to see the problem. I saw same type of Lead in my current company.

Next time punch him in the face so he won't come back for update.
