I was just about to post on here asking for a final round of beta testers for my web app before launch, and just before I hit “post” I thought of a massive issue.

My thought process as I was typing.

1) i’ll need to quickly go top up my Twillio account.

2) wait, people from all over the world use devRant... ah but that’s s fine, twilio is global it’ll just cost a tiny bit more for overseas texts.

3) SHIT - my code is taking the phone number the user enters and stripping off the leading zero and adding +44, that’s only going to work for UK numbers.

4) fuck. How cunting short sighted of me. Fuck fuck fuck.

So now I’m trying to figure out the best way make sure each phone number is formatted for the users country, without having to have the user do a whole lot of thinking.

Any ideas?

@MrJimmy yeah trying to avoid extensive hard coding. Other than the fact it would take me forever... it’s not elegant.

There must be some api out there.
