    Amd threadripper's series are amazing for the price actually aslong as people use multi threading in there software lol

    Lost at cores by cores

    Hmm, so why did Intel started to make more cores for the mass consumer CPUs after Ryzen release?
  • 7
    @illusion466 yes, this is the famous core-Btree, every core has a number of sub-cores. If that relationship was linear we would be stuck with an infinite tree of cores.

    This goes into my folder of absurd hardware ideas

    Intel is more conservative with the high core counts. They are shifting to 6core CPUs for consumer grade stuff, which is nice because they also have 4.3Ghz and higher turbo clock. This means a really nice single core speed aswell.

    AMD is catching up in the market, but it will take a while and also some more sensible CPUs for them to be head on with Intel.

    More cores only help so much depending on the application.

    Video rendering. Great.
    Multitasking. Awesome.
    Gaming. Diminishing returns.

    Personally I would want more efficiency and raw power over more cores.

    @illusion466 context: the graphic is about how the cores are laid out 4x4 3x2 hence the non linearity and yet increasing it's raw values

    I realy like AMD, even have a ryzen in my main systeem, but:

    More cores != more speed

    I'm planning on buying AMD for my next workstation, even considering the mobile version for my next laptop.

    I mean it's working so

    PersonLly i think what Intel is doing is good in long term. AMD is using up a territory which already has proven to increase performance, but Intel is exploring where the industry has given up decades ago. So after this, if they hit back with increased cores , it will be catastrophic for AMD.

    P.S. I am an AMD fan boy. My laptop and PC both run eventhough my entire friend circle suggested me against that.
