retoor837437dAs an ex developer of charity stuff in nl responsible for digital transactions for charities in NL, I can tell you, it's the big charities. The costs of our payment gateway were no joke. Still, it felt good to work in charity sector and do still some charity. Did you know that charity didn't stop during covid and stuff? It's a good business to be a developer for it that actually is allowed to be commercial with good prices.
If you consider charity, try gofundme. I do not really like the cases lately. Gofundme only asks optional donations to platform.
Once a girl was talking about a surgery for a cat for 500,-.i laughed a bit, quite a contrast between other stories there, but then I started to read.. She was kinda autistic or such kind, does not have work, the cat did eat some rope because she made clothes herself and her cat was her only friends. So, I donated. IIRC, she got a few thousand instead of 500,- in the end :p but funding to a total amount of 500,- is fun, impactful. -
12bitfloat1051337d@retoor Maybe I was a bit too nihilistic :D
Of course there is still a lot of good that comes from charities. It just also attracts some bad people -
jestdotty634237dto me this was really obvious
my mom raised me on welfare
so... yeah the marketing for things that help people and whether said things help people or not are really disconnected
also don't trust government. they're the biggest charity scam there is. which is kind of funny, the government audits you with taxes every year or "vague threat here", but we know government funnels money out through corruption yet we don't get to audit them much less tell them their spending was incorrect and they should be punished by having their resources taken away
... I've even had a shitty company owner tell me I should be ok with him working people to death 80+ hour weeks because he keeps people on who don't generate him any money. the morally corrupt love the charity argument. they're not honest. it's just to fuck with you
bonus if they get to insult a person or group in the process -- and no fuck minorities. special classes of people so fucked up -
retoor837436d@Demolishun I'm aware of that, didn't donate for a while anymore because of that. I was very dissapointed. They should've been jailed for that. But you see, laws only exist for the poor guy.

D-4got10-01121433dHave you donated to the Crack Baby Athletics Association, recently?
Remember, they need that special gravy-in-the-bathtub relaxation treatment.

I just realized that charities being scammy and pocketing most of the money for themselves isn't actually a shocking thing
If you're a scammer, convincing people to give you their money by parading people in need around is like the easiest thing ever
Of course all charities are scams, that's literally the easiest and most legal way to scam people!
