Sometimes I feel weird because the homeless people on the subway asking for money look more put together than me.

To be fair, those who aren't on the subway look very homeless.

Neither take credit cards though.

I'm just confused.

Me, as a social worker (and programmer, yes...it's weird) I've seen a lot of beggars and I tell you that most of them are proffesional beggars. In Spain we have got "mafia beggars"(I don't know how to say that in English). In my proffesional experience, people who really need help at first time is afraid of asking for help and finds very difficult to ask for money in the streets.

@Unai The ones that basically look more put together than me usually goes around and retell a story that they are homeless and they will use the money for X Y and Z. It's the same format the times I've heard it.

The subway requires transit cards to enter though. Maybe there's a way around it, I don't know if they straight up pay or just jump the gate.

But if they do pay that's like 4€ to enter atleast. Just feels weird. I can't really give any money to anyone since I don't carry cash.

@BigBoo yeah mate... If you want to help people with money, I think the best thing you can do is donate to a trusty benefical organization

I'm actually looking into what to donate to. Not that I want anyones suggestions.

But I would like to donate a small percentage of my yearly salary. I know that if you for example donate directly to local research facilities that do cancer research everything pretty much ends up in the right hand.

Instead of donating to organisations who doesn't do that.

@BigBoo I agree with you. What I do is donate a small amount of money to a small local organization for disabled people, you know...cerebral paralisis, autism...

Hopefully I can find something I want to give to aswell. I'm usually very sceptical about organizations.

I've seen beggars in Ireland who will set up outside a shop (with a deck chair) to beg. When it comes to closing time, they put the chair in the boot of their car and sodded off. Was a nicer car than my family had.
