Saw a movie related to Data Security and Data privacy. The movie ended 1 hour ago and i am now terrified how my data is going to end up somewhere where it can be misused .Frantically removed all app permissions from my mobile. Wonder how many days it will last. But now after hearing such gory details , i wonder how i can keep my interests safe in this world. I am now even afraid to give my laptop for changing its battery.. Thinking of wiping all possible compromisable data. But dont know how to.

How will technologies like blockchain affect this ? Will it make it worse or is it trying to make it better..?

This might end up being longer than an apple store queue for a product release.

Was it Snowden (2016)? Nonetheless, this is an awesome movie too

    Inb4: the movie was snowden(2016)

But really, blockchains likely won't help. It just makes sure all your data is spread out accross many people's computers. Some blockchains encrypt data. But that's encryption making you safe.

    My best advice is:
    A. Don't panic. Panicing only makes things worse, unless you go off the grid completely, you will have data in bad places. You have insurance, credit cards car payments, credit (looking at you equifax), and friends on Facebook who will give away not only their info but yours for some stupid game. Data breaches happen. It sucks, but it's life.

    B. Use secure, unique passwords, turn on 2FA, debate if the risk is worth the added benefits ( there are so many services I could use to make my life better. If only I trusted them to secure my data), debate it a second time if it requires a credit card or SSN, and encrypt everything you can without becoming a hassle to yourself and your friends. (No your grocery list doesn't require AES-256)

Sorry .. it was already midnight here.. So i slept.. And the movie was a tamil ( a regional Indian Language ) movie called "Irumbu Thirai" (Iron Curtain). Although 40% of the movie is commercial, they hit the remaining parts in the right areas. Dark Net , Phising , Spam emails , Unwanted app permissions in mobiles , social media etc. It was too much for a tamil commercial movie , considering debacles of similar technically good movies..

@deadPix3l Encryption is fine. But i used firefox to access my bank's internet banking . Although i never save internet banking's password, i am just really paranoid , that i might have missed something.

And shit like linkedin , facebook for which i have saved my password.. How to protect myself against those.

About file encryption, all i have in my hard disk is mostly some hobby programs and movies.. So i dont think those require encryption..
