Anyone else rocking Linux on their laptops?
Linux runs extremely well on my Thinkpad.

I have ElementaryOS on my school dev laptop. BlackArch on another laptop. And Kali on another.

My next Laptop or PC will be windows unfortunately. But it's gonna be a gaming rig so no choice there.

@n00bn00b Is elementary more stable nowadays? Because 2 years ago this was beautiful but unstable as f*ck. Random app crash, bugs while updating etc. I never trusted it to be my main dev' OS

I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.

@Apower There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

Running Ubuntu Mate on my laptop, that I basically only use when I'm too lazy to get out of bed and walk over to my desk

Running Fedora on my dualboot MSI laptop. Windows is exclusive for my games. Fedora for my daily driver.

Been rocking elementary OS for years now. I'm married to it.

I cheated by installing Linux Mint on my desktop, then running Windows 10 with KVM/Qemu for gaming.

My work MacBook runs Mint as well, through refind. I use the original open source Synergy application a lot to share keyboard/mouse/clipboard.

Home server runs Arch and functions mostly as a NAS, few raspberries with various images (Kodi for media, Moonlight for running steam games). Oh and an original Motorola Droid running Debian with a gameboy emulator, because the keyboard makes it awesome.

@Weyx I've had literally no problems whatsoever in about 8 months. No crashes or anything. It's been super reliable since Loki.

@bittersweet I figure rather than going with a workaround I'll just use windows to game because I won't be doing anything but that lol.

@Apower Not entirely true. Alpine Linux, for example, uses almost no GNU components with the Linux kernel. It uses mucl libc and busybox instead.

How's the fan on it? Can you hear it?
