    Yes, i have a fairly light laptop and i still wish i had an ultra. If you dont plan on gaming, get an ultrabook.

    A good compromise is something like a Dell XPS 15 which is lightish and thin but still has a discrete GPU which makes it suitable for gaming

    What will you be using it for? Gaming laptops, even though they have state of the art hardware, they are heavy and using it for taking notes and carrying it on your backpack all day long will be a pain on your back (literally) and you won't squeeze out it's true potential at all.

    Having had a +4kg multimedia laptop for 6 years - I had to invest in a great backpack. No regrets on my powerhouse though, it's still a perfectly viable laptop and I'm happy I didn't have to invest in a new 3 years ago.

    @thechez99
    Ultrabook shortlist - dell 7570 or asus s15
    They have mx150

    Investing in xps worth it?

    Gaming laptop with 8th gen cpu are too costly so i am looking at lenovo y520 or asus fx503

    @sharktits @JKyll

    That's what I was thinking portability should be there
    Have you guys have any idea about mx150
    I think that's more than enough for light gaming
    And i7 8550u is good enough for virtual box vscode and stuff?

    @cybergod I'd say portability would win, if you're considering either. As @AlexDeLarge says "get an ultra book and if you can afford it, get a gaming rig later"

    If you can afford a good backpack and would be able to carry that weight (~3kg), each time you have to.. That might really be a viable option. Although, if you want to upgrade a gaming laptop, good luck.

    So, my final take is:
    Ultrabook if in doubt and have cash for gaming rig.

    Gaming laptop, if you're sure you can handle the weight(and have a proper backpack) each time you have to transport it. . And are sure it'll last the time you need it.

    @Kandelborg I have one desktop n two laptops
    But they all are pretty old

    So want a new machine that can handle multitasking effectively
    Not upgrading a gaming laptop

    Just want the best laptop that can last 3-4 years from now

    well I have a gaming laptop and actually when coding outside the short battery time can be very annoying. But for coding and 4k video editing its so dope.. even the fact that its portable ;D

    Depends on what you want to do. A Gaming laptop doesn't have to be super huge now days so you can get something in between.

    To be honest, I have a dislike for ultra books since they usually barely have any ports for anything and one needs to carry tons of adapters for them instead.

    I have a very lightweight normal laptop with decent stats and all kinds of ports, and it has proven more then once to be of advantage to have these ports.

    Also: if it's an ultra book, it is likely glued together and if you ever need to open it up it will be harder then a normal notebook. In my gaming one we are able to exchange almost everything, even the graphics card but it makes the notebook a bit bigger and bulkier.

    I dunno, I'm probably the last person these kind of things are important to, but maybe it's worth a thought.

    I can recommend these guys: https://www.nexoc.de/en/

    You choose what you want.

    In the bigger ones we are able to replace parts on our own, although that depends on the model.
