Asbetha6726yIn my opinion AR/VR still needs some time to be "the real shit".
Things that are real hot right now (again my opinion) are MI and SDx .. after that? IoT, Smart Home, "Smart" Robots (damn yea Terminator inc), virtual personal assistant, UAV, etc. -
Asbetha6726yBut to answer your question: There is a company xyz that develops a "mind" for ppl in logistics. Like you put the googles on and it tells you what to do and shows some easy image instructions and if needed the way where the things are located (lol).
But also for electricians so they can see "through" the covering ... but that's more a toy than something you can really use -
@njpugh90 Does the assembly and maintenance stuff look promising, or do you think it's no better than a video describing the bits?
-
Asbetha6726yHere a link to something that is similar what I described (the packaging is only missing there)
https://youtube.com/watch/...
It looks tbh pretty cool but I don't think that it's really adding value here. Maybe in the beginning of the job it can help a lot but if you know where everything is and how to properly pack things you don't really need those glasses -
@Asbetha Yes. There seem to be a lot of "showcase" projects---which makes it harder to identify tangible business benefits.
-
Asbetha6726y@platypus what I can imagine that in areas like medicin, designing and simulation AR could fit but thinking of something for the broad public isn't easy because mostly they only end up as nice gags that are used like 5 minutes and than deleted

We tried simplifying the VR/AR/XR industry it self. We observed that it depended a lot on Unity even for simple experiences. So, we made a lighter PPT like web interface which makes making simple experiences easier. Check it out at scapic.com

I think early use cases are going to largely be business/industrial but it shows some real promise there.
Personally kind of excited about the idea of being able to have much smarter remote hands for infrastructure field work. It will be amazing when I can actually see what the tech 3000 miles away is seeing and just draw on their view what needs to be plugged in or whatever rather than spending hours describing it and drawing on smartphone pictures in MS Paint. -
Axis8126yGoogle glass. They converted their market from the average individual to individuals who work in manufacturing
-
@Axis Did they actually re-launch the product? Last I checked they were just talking about it/working on new version.

csharper6Prof offers a VR project to us: Prof: Lets do something nice using VR Us: Sounds interesting. Will we get VR ...
Anyone doing any VR/AR work for their company and can share (without mentioning the company) what they are doing with it---i.e. business problem being solved and how it's being solved?
Feels like there's a lot of hype here and the few niche applications of it (which are great) are getting the press.
But, maybe there's worthy work going on in the trenches that I'm unfamiliar with.
