I'm a big fan of using "brackets text editor" instead of sublime (if I need a quick edit.) otherwise, visual studio
-
@P3t3r6 I don't think so. Almost every picture with code in a rant is using sublime.
-
fiskolin7918yI like Atom a lot... For big development projects I use PhpStorm for PHP and Visusl Studio for .NET/C#. But Atom is the coolest IDE I worked on.
-
P3t3r66598y@Morningstar That's true... Although people seem to "hate" Sublime everytime there's a discussion about editors and IDEs
-
cahva10138yHmm.. Why do I like ST?
- starts instantly
- fuzzy search
- package manager
- all the packages I need/require are there
- easy to create custom packages with python
- customizable
- atomic saves
- theme system
- etc...
Whats not to like? :) i know some editors have catch up to ST in some areas but they are still cheap knockoffs ;) -
In a lot of ways Sublime has set the benchmark for what a code editor is and you have to respect that.
-
@nblackburn What made you think that I don't respect that? was it the question or the fact that I don't like it?
-
Why do you hate sublime ? I prefer IDEs over editors, but when I have to work on a small project or make a little change, I use sublime and it's absolutly fine. Is Atom better ? Why ? (Never used it)
-
@elmediator I didn't say that I hate it. I just don't like it, there are better options for me.
-
@Morningstar It was a generalised statement that you have to respect something that has made such a mark.
-
@elmediator the interface is not the best. I work with multiple OS and the windows versions is ugly. Sublime has the package manager but finding and configuring packages is another matter. The level of support is lower than other editors. Not open source. Expensive license. The unregistered copy message. I'm not trying to start a fight here. I just said that I don't like it, that's all.
-
PRein11868y@Morningstar
but what exactly do you not like about it? I havent seen a better text editor .. it certainly is no better than an actual IDE though. -
@Morningstar I answered you in my last comment.
No need to be so defensive when it wasn't aimed at anyone hence the term "generalised statement". -
@nblackburn I'm not defensive, I said that I don't want to start a fight here. But the fact that you said that I have to respect it sounds like I don't respect it. It was an opinion, I didn't insult does who use sublime neither the editor. So no need to say that I have to respect it.
-
P3t3r66598y@Morningstar I know mate 😄 I just find it funny how discussions about editors always get hella lit, even tho anybody has "bad intentions" 😂
-
@Morningstar You are missing the point entirely, i explained what "generalised statement" meant and you STILL think i am taking a jab at you.
-
No need for that type of generalised statement when no one is being disrespectful.
-
skonteam9628y@Morningstar @nblackburn vim is better ( trying to make you both hate on me instead of each other :p )
-
pyrotazz3088y@Morningstar I believe the 'you' in @nblackburn's statement was the communal 'you', not aimed at YOU directly.
-
yvang2878yBut you never stated why you don't like sublime. If it looks ugly you can theme it easily with the package installer. You don't have to manually download and install. Easy breezy installations. I started using brackets too and it's very similar. It's extremely powerful for being free.
-
yvang2878y@Morningstar missed it, my b. But to address those issues, I've Googled all my issues with sublime. You could also Google a license for sublime too (sorry sublime!) if it really annoys you. I agree it's not the prettiest but it allows the developer for maximal tweakability.
-
@yvang I'm glad there are solution for those that I mentioned. But I tried Sublime a few years ago and didn't work for me.
-
It's basically great, has no flaws and 99.9% of the time of my code doesn't work it's my fault not some wonky setting in some imbedded terminal emulator it's also so much faster, and you have to learn how to compile things yourself. Which then fave me a reason to learn bash scripting...
-
@Morningstar Yes there is because it's pretty impressive one dude pulled that off.
-
@skonteam Don't hate anyone, just wish @MorningStar would listen to me as they are clearly missing the point.
Unpopular opinion: I don't like Sublime. Why people like it so much?
