I just can't stand dark mode (except for coding). It hurts my eyes. :/

How does darkness hurt the eyes? Especially in low-light conditions it's super useful to have a dark theme.. the only reason for even considering turning off the dark theme is when you're in a super bright area like that thing called outside or in a train or something like that :/
