So you're mad because people are using an app made for ranting to rant about something they dislike?
Oof. -
@bahua What do you expect? It's political issues within our field. And people come here to rant about it.
It takes all of half a second to downvote a rant so that it's hidden. And this shit show will blow over soon anyways.... If this is enough to make you leave over the fuckton of pointless bitching about MS buying GitHub, then that's a bit wack, in my honest opinion. -
bahua128036yThere was no real-world political division revealed and enforced by the MS/Github affair.

@bahua The only real world division that comes from this is only going to come from the individuals.
I personally hate one side of the political spectrum, but that doesn't mean I'm going to hate every single person that aligns with it. They're people, we live in a fucking awesome world where we have our own opinions, and that's that.
It all depends on how sad and miserable a person is to let their political views determine friendships or not. -
@Jilano dude, I'm just asking if there is a reason at all, not demanding one. If they left at the same time I assumed there was a known reason for that.
-
@Jilano I said "official" because of the original post, where he mentioned "[they] were onto something when they left."

rfc716828016yI think it's important to be concerned about the parts of "our" field that has political implications apart from office politics, like companies selling our data, ethics in ML/AI, net neutrality etc.
And so is being able to just vent over the little things that have some political value there imo.
However, I'm sometimes disappointed - not disheartened - how it's discussed if it's discussed and not just vented.
On the other hand, it's the occasional event that occurs and then recedes. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anybody else disheartened by the flurry of alt-right whines about the Linux CoC, making liberal use of offensive epithets as if they're not actually offensive? It makes me think Alice, AlexDeLarge, Bitwise, and others were on to something when they left.
I love devrant, and the idea of leaving breaks my heart, but the idea of sticking around and reading tirades by brigading t_d/4chan extremists, instead of what I loved about this site/app when I joined is more than I can stand. I will be standing back for a while, commenting here and there, but I'm going to scale back my usage of devrant for the sake of my own mental health.
I can only hope that the hate-based rhetoric fades away.
