I don't care. Just use whatever gets the job done and gets out of my way. Be it windows, Linux, bsd, macos or Android. Hell. Sometimes I even use dos or win2k to solve a problem with legacy hardware :/

Windows disc was expensive, linux's always been free. I was a poor student by then, and my budget didn't justify the expense.

That was many years ago while I was a poor student, windows xp was expensive. Instead I installed ubuntu 4.10. They even shipped the CD free of charge

I don't really care what OS is the best for you but I simply found the very statement of " Linux is for people with time to waste" being offensive.

I'd love to use linux, but I don't find it very useful, I develop web stuff on a mac and test on windows, i just don't have a use for linux, other than a bit of noughties nostalgia when i used it a lot to be different to everyone else.

It has nothing to do with whether it's a desktop or a cluster environment, it's the lack of respect to professionals that work on Linux that I found offensive.

yeah I'm probably a bit overreacted ... just got annoyed for being regarded as people wasting time on Linux, there are good science produced here on Linux.

If my tech illiterate grandma can use manjaro for whom it took exactly 1 day to get comfortable, any decent person who has used a computer before can too. If you can't even do that or you "need to waste your time" to get a Linux distro running then YOU got real problems .

I ran a React-Node workshop and all hell broke loose with the windows machines. Npm, node webpack, git everything won't work. Not just PATH problems!
Too sad that they left after :(

I don't know how to properly describe them so I'll describe the 3 OS roughly like:

Windows:
- techy-feel
+ standard. subjective "just working". IME I haven't seen any non-techy people uses non-windows PCs ever in my whole life. It's only either Windows or Mac but Mac is expensive sooo around 95% Win - 5% Mac

OSX:
+ techy-feel
+ stable
- expensive

Linux:
+ techy-feel
+ free
- subjective "stability"

Linux that is running Gnome3+dash to dock+topbar almost looks OSX or even just Deepin.

OS X can get as techy as you want it to be, really. It strikes a nice middle ground in that it's got all the technical capability of UNIX without the completely unvarnished feel of Linux, yet does a better job than Windows has ever done about making it inviting at the same time.

You want the command line? You probably already know right where to find it, and can do anything you want from it. You prefer the comfort of the GUI? It's got the best in the business. And as far as software support is concerned, with the exception of some games you can find top-of-class software for pretty much any function you need for OS X as well.
