I don't know what Google's design team has taken for drugs lately, but I want some!!

First, replacement of the blobs into this trash that they call emoji nowadays. 10-20 years ago we called it the crap stickers from MSN.
Next, Android Pie would look like iOS, but in the most grotesque way possible.
And now it's creeping into the apps.. Google Play, YouTube, Messaging, …

It all looks so.. white, and round, and childish. What happened to sharp corners, using all the screen real estate, and.. those colors?! God I can't stand how white the Google apps are starting to look. But I know the solution. I'll accuse Google of being RACIST!! Because black people would be so offended by the lack of dark themes. GOOGLE, YOU PATRIARCHIC, NON-INCLUSIVE, RACISTIC A-HOLES!!! CHANGE YOUR COLORS NOW!!!

I can see how that could actually work nowadays 🙃

@irene but not *this* white!! This new design.. it's just horrific!

YouTube actually got dark theme, the switch is in Settings>General>Dark theme.

@SgnfcntOverflow that's one of the first settings I enable nowadays :3 they should make it a default!

@irene I love the new design.

The sharp edges were ugly as fuck.

@Stuxnet If you don't have any complaints about your changes someone is (or was, or both) doing it wrong.

Chrome on android used to close when you closed the last tab, and the background of the tab list used to be dark gray. Now, if you close all of your tabs there's just this white hell blazing back at you and nothing happens, no new tab opens, nothing...
But even if you have open tabs, they're also white! Why the low contrast?
Also I don't really like the completely round ends of the urlbar...

@Conrad I like that it doesn't close... that's not intuitive at all

@Condor I also like Googles' way of theming nowadays.. clean, robust and powerfully useful. Not everything has to be a square (though, they could give you the option quite easily..)

@Conrad I like the attached image, it sums up the experience from Google pretty well.. personally I quite liked Material Design (and implemented it on my Linux hosts even, through Paper) but on Android, it's really just whatever Google chooses to feed you, with no option to opt out of new designs. Kind of like that video of GAIA that I've seen years ago, where manufacturers of some food forcibly feed gooses with funnels all the way down their throats to make them extra fat. It's been many years so I unfortunately don't remember much of it, but it sure was disturbing... Google, just like all the others.. gotta love the gag!

@xewl Yeah, I probably just got used to it closing, as I also have the habit of closing all my tabs when I'm done browsing. But if they were going to change it so that it doesn't close chrome when you close the last tab (Isn't close all tabs == close browser on all desktop browsers?), I'd have preferred it to at least open a new tab (like android firefox).
