Even as someone who uses Arch who is expected to shit on everything that isn't Arch, I tend to only use the terms "Winblows" or "Microshit" or some variation of those if I'm actually pissed off from some issue related to a Windows machine.

Those names tend to kinda irritate me under normal circumstances anyways. They're immature and childish.

I’m right there with you. In my eyes it just straight immature. Each operating system has its own purpose. I use Windows MacOS and Linux operating systems every day. Try to convince me one is better than the other. All you can do is prove me right. Each os has its pros and cons. I see a purpose in each one. For some, more useful than others, but that all depends on use case.

Another common issue in the dev world is stability. Recently, all of my running computers are at near 100% stability, which in my case, needs not too much additional tinkering with. I used to play with Arch Linux and can comfortably say that it’s not for me. I don’t know much, and I accept the fact. But you don’t see me saying that aRcH LiNuX SuCkS do you? No. I let people have their opinion. Hint hint, people don’t hate you for saying it’s not for you, do they?

@Gerrymandered I completely agree. If you're a designer, I'm going to recommend you MacOS, are you someone in an office that needs to do spreadsheets, and love to play the latest PC games, I'll recommend you use Windows, and if you're a power user who wants to program, I'll recommend Linux.

If I love soup, eat it all the time, I'll use a spoon most times, but if someone eats pasta, do I tell them a fork is a terrible utensil? No I'm not a moron, so why do we do it for an OS

1) I never once said hat I like any os, I just said each has its pros and cons.

2) You said that Windows is useless. But may I mention software that only works on it?

Again, I’m not biased toward any os in particular, I just use what works. And on that note, having a desktop that works using Windows pretty reliably is for sure a nice to have. I’ve tried installing Linux on it but it lacked many crucial things like V-Sync across the wm. So what? Do I hate Linux and everyone that uses it? No. I use it for servers where SSH suffices. Unless I’m wrong, I’m not going to format my entire drive to get an os someone else believes works better in my particular case without looking at the context.

@FrodoSwaggins It's simply a fact that Windows has to offer a lot on desktop where Linux simply hasn't caught up. No, the argument that Windows users are just stupid has never been convincing - and even more importantly, it has proven ineffective to actually CHANGE things.

I'm writing this on Win 7. The machine before had Linux as only OS for 9 years. It's not like I can't deal with Linux - in fact, I already had Linux for some time back in the 90s. I know what modelines were for. Oh and I also worked on Unixes like HP-UX, AIX, Irix which many ranters here only know from Wikipedia these days.

But I was fucking fed up with the perpetual issues Linux had. Hardware issues, audio issues, WLAN issues, battery issues, crappy stability if you include also the GUI and not only the kernel, subclass software, no top games, bad GUIs, and most importantly, the suck continued because there is no quality control and I need to come up with ever new workarounds THAT I DON'T HAVE FUCKING TIME FOR.

@FrodoSwaggins For 120 EUR, I bought a Win 7 system builder licence and installed the whole shit on a self assembled machine, and you know what? I got a system that needs so much less handholding than all the Linux stuff I've had throughout the years that it's simply amazing. It's not like MS needed to anal probe me with drugged moles. THEY HAD THE FUCKING BETTER PRODUCT.

The only reason why I plan to switch over to Linux again although it sucks is because MS has decided to suck EVEN MORE with Win 10, and the privacy issues are just the toilet paper on the shit pile because they also dropped QA from updates, but unlike Linux, the crapdates are even FORCED.

Yeah, I know that Linux will be half baked unstable shit on desktop, BUT I can schedule the updates to one of the machines in my household and at least have the others stable until my personal machine has proven that shit WORKS.

That's also how I pass that off in my household. Progress was yesterday - today it's damage control!

@FrodoSwaggins that we are not doing general things. Everyone here does something specific and specialized. For example the software that I run to manage my server comes on the windows platform. With my iPhone and MacBook, there is a nice ecosystem to have them work together out of the box. My servers reliably run Linux. From what I can tell here, you’re being the childish one not accepting that Linux may have some flaw. Riddle me that fanboy.

Also yes, I have tried running Linux on my desktop. Had a few issues:
- V-Sync issues on the desktop.
- Old interfaces that look like they’re from 2006.
- Nvidia drivers
- missing programs and games for Linux

Maybe I am childish, but an OS for which
- you have to pay for (macOS and most linux distros are free of charge)
- is not OSS (XNU, Linux are)
- errors so that you have a hard time figuring out what happened
- auto installs and not lets you remove their "assistant" aka data collector and recorder

And so on. Yeah you can play many video games on windows which are exclusively available on it but the office and spreadsheet stuff is available under any OS and additionally in the web browser

It's my best hope that they leave GitHub intact without ip/privacy infingements, additional costs or forced use of ither shitty ms stuff.

On the other hand MS SQLServer is a very well constructed product so maybe i should look up the bad teams or rather the good ones to give appropriate credit

@SomeUsername1 I don't mind paying, and I think the 120 EUR I paid for a Win7 system builder licence were a good deal, given that I have so much hassle with the system than I had before in years of Linux usage. What a pity that MS has decided to ruin everything after Win7.

Some games don't run in proton. Some apps don't run on wine. Some apps don't run on WSL.

Windows isn't perfect, and neither is Linux. I use both for different reasons, and both have programs I can't run on the other. Both have their place.

That being said, I'm not defending anyone's business practices.
