I am really thinking of switching my main computer over to linux. I’m getting pretty tired of windows bugs and I keep finding myself wanting to use linux commands. The only reason I haven’t switched is MS Office products and video games, but I suppose I could make a new windows image just for that and dual-boot...

I have not used it for a while but Wine has always run office products pretty flawlessly.... for the little amount I used them anyways. Power users might run into edge cases that don’t work right.

@netikras you mean the web version right? I don't think the desktop one works under Linux.

@BadFox yeah, the web version. It's way lower on features but it's enough for casual use

@netikras Yeah, if I wanted a web-based solution I would use google products. It’s nice not being reliant on internet though (and I don’t like my files in the cloud). Also games are fun :)

How about windows subsystem for Linux?

I don't know what you're doing with your windows but I haven't had a bug in months, maybe even years 0.o

I did at the beginning of this semester. I migrated my last system permanently to *nix from Windows that once was my last bastion of proprietary micro$oft. I only held out for so long because of my video game collection, but things have changed:
1. Most games that I like support Linux - that overlaps a lot with indie developers like Zachtronics and has less overlap with AAA titles from Ubisoft/EA/etc.
2. Recently, those non-Linux titles which I do still enjoy are becoming playable with the new Steam Play compatibility layer, meaning there are fewer reasons to stay on Windows.

And like others have said, video games are becoming less important in my life and more of a luxury as I get older.

Office 2010, at least, ran flawlessly for me and my friends through wine. Many of Windows steam games which are not ported run fine with proton, and I even got LOL and Hearthstone running with Lutris installer. Used to have a gaming windows disk, since proton came out I fully switched to Linux.

Most of my games are available in Linux and the numbers are growing since the latest addition Valve want to include in Steam in the future. For gaming Linux is becoming a possibilities. For myself i only play Stellaris, chat and do music production. The only reason i'm on windows is because of Audio prods... That led me to think about quitting music altogether XD!

@seraphimsystems Yeah, I do use the linux subsystem currently but unfortunately it isn’t quite good enough in my opinion... It also adds a decent overhead.
