Mizz14174967yA Billion in german is a Milliarde,
You count like this:
Million, Milliarde (This is where the English billion would be), Billion, Billiarde, Trillion, Trilliarde etc... Easier than ever! -

				@Mizz141 how can this be logical to you. Since when we use "Mono", "Randomshit", "Bi", "Randomshit", "Tri",... What the fuck has "Milliarde" to do in there.
 -

				@nitwhiz it's quite logical depending on how you look at it
English:
Million = 1000¹ thousands
Billion = 1000² thousands
German(and Swedish):
Million = 1000000¹
Mill-iarde = 1000000^½
Billion = 1000000² -

tokumei20877yThe 1,000,000^n standard is also used in some contexts in the UK even though they speak English. Theres a numberphile video about it somewhere... -

-vim-30837y@nitwhiz etymologically, the english way is wrong.
Great video about the subject: https://youtu.be/C-52AI_ojyQ -

				It's like that in a lot of languages, if anything I think it's the English billion that's the odd one out. As fast as I know all Slavic languages do the same thing.
 -

				So... I read a post on an english community and learn something about my native language...
That's a first for me. -

				Luckily these words are only used in publications you shouldn't trust anyway. At least when they write about tech.

"Billion" doesn't specify the same quantity in German as it does in English.
