@irene Honestly, I don't care about that. But, in some dark corner of my heart, I was waiting for something to be worse than the one video which stood for itself, So, closure attained !!

@irene Adding the number of views makes more sense of the overall split. E.g YT Rewind 2018 has the 127M views as of now, with likes and dislikes at 2.2M vs 11M. Another video on the same league of views is Rebecca Black's Friday (this came to mind, because, well today is Friday) - 128M views with 907K likes vs 3.3M dislikes. So, this one still comes on top !!

@irene it beat bieber baby dislike under a month, that’s really ironic for youtube lol

Until now, whenever people called them out for doing stupid shit, YouTube would basically ignore their existence. This is why this twit is so important - it's the first time YouTube acknowledged that they fucked up. Hopefully they'll make another step and actually try to fix their problems.

While we are on the subject of memes, did you donate to wikipedia ?

I think it’s actually a pretty successful ad. It’s polarising (but not offensive), so everyone talks about, which is exactly what YouTube wants. Being the most disliked video just adds more fuel to the fire.

@irene They did say they want to improve in their following tweet: https://mobile.twitter.com/YouTube/...
It could be that they're lying and they don't really care about this, but we'll see.

In fact, just search rewind on YouTube. See all those reaction videos and critiques? Guess what, YouTube makes money off all of those. So it’s not only a way of getting massive publicity, it’s also an indirect source of income.

@620hun Here's the thing: YouTube Rewind was never supposed to be an ad. It started as this awesome celebration of trends and creators, but today it's all about attracting monetizers.
They don't care about users - they're worthless without any ads to show to them. What they want is the big companies to think that YouTube is a safe place to put their ads on. So they just scream "Hey look at us, we're so family friendly and we fucking looove minorities". Meanwhile, a huge number of videos still get demonetized so nobody makes money off of them.

@PaperBag it is an ad, and a very successful one. Personally I never cared about rewind and this year is no different.
