I've been using name dot com for over a decade, but I'm sick of their increasing price hikes. I looked at Porkbun not too long ago, but don't like how their DNS services are run by Cloudflare (the shit company that has censored multiple websites, actionablely defaming them, over the past decade, while still allowing animal crushing sites to use their service).

But maybe I should just bite the bullet and switch over. It adds up to a considerable amount of money, even if I let some of my unused domains expire into the ether.

It will be the 2nd time in my life I've moved domain registrars.

Cloud flare is ugh, let's do with the whole world centralized register at the same provider, what can go wrong. Maybe the same as we had with AWS today? Internet, nice decentralized, and then we do this :p

@whimsical I could just not use their DNS service, but I've also found some not great reviews about Porkbun. They are the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Starship seems to be the discount version of Namecheap. It's a little more than Porkbun, but less than Name.com ...

@djsumdog my domain names are at transip what you know as Dutchy and maybe not the best prices but I accept for the fact never having issues

BUT: I got a online tld for free when registering a nl tld. And now, a few days ago, I got a renewal PENDING for a 60+ euro renewal. I was in shock, they gave me such expensive domain for free. Thank God I saw it on time and directly cancelled it. An dot online domain was ofcourse not very popular among people.

I call this just scam. S-C-A-M. No nuance.

But technically they seem to do their thing. Vps's there was nice too.

@djsumdog Unfortunately, cloud flare is the cheapest for renewals because they do it at cost. Good luck with finding prices ahead of time, though. If you want me to check a domain, let me know.
