Some on here are very open about having addictions or using external things 'to keep going', be better or whatever else reason. I do too myself. (please don't get butthurt)

What do you think about weed & dev instead of - or even with - alcohol & dev?

BTW, I just noticed this (2 hours ago! I didn't know there are limits, which seems like a good idea..). I deem it obligatory to share. It's also the reason I'm asking 😁

    Can’t confirm and can’t deny 🙂

Personal experience: Any activity that needs logical power of your brain, including programming, is virtually impossible when you are high. And as you gradually turn to a stoner, you'd completely lose your ability to think logically.

I don't think I'm an alcohol addict but few people on here might think I'm an alcoholic.

    But I don't code when I'm drunk.

I had done few distro installation while drunk, not a good outcome. LOL.

I don't see how either weed or alcohol will do anything positive to "keep you going" while coding, unless you're doing some weird experiment for how much crap nonsensical code you can churn out.

I tend to agree. But there are some people - in my experience - who have the mental capabilities to be a functional addict.

I'm pretty sure there are a lot of functional coke, heroin etc. addicts in the management/executive scene. A lot of research points to environments as being the largest factor of the outcome of the addiction (besides the actual drug).

I, myself, mostly struggle with keeping structure to my tasks. No matter if I'm high or not. When I'm high though, repetetive tasks and serious problem solving are second nature.. When I'm not high, working towards a goal and finishing tasks are second nature.

Sometimes, I regret getting high before doing it, other times I throughly enjoy it.

Im not saying that mental capabilities aren't taking a hit (pun intended) - rather that I keep being able to do stuff. Bearing in mind that I've been actively doing things while high a bunch of years. Also, I'm on the path of stopping, but days without are unproductive days.

@Kandelborg drug can boost your focus for certain cases like in Sherlock series 😁

    But liquor definitely won't.

I drink alcohol when on parties (maybe once a month or less) and I am not such a big fan of it even tho I never had a hangover the next day when drinking much.

Weed is okay occasionally to calm down a bit when stressed out. But I don't do it on a regular basis. I know people who smoke daily and its noticeable that they get kinda slow in thinking and look always tired :D
Idk I don't judge people who do it often, but for me, occasionally, maybe once every 2 months or so, then it stays something special. I'd get bored of it of I'd do it everyday and I would probably become really unproductive :D

I'd never take any hard drugs (chemical shit) cause imo its just not worth it. You just fuck up your body.

However, I would be really interested to try Modafinil (cognitive enhancment drug) once just to experience the effect . But at the same time I don't want to try it because I don't know the side effects and I don't want to end up taking it regularly, becoming the slave of a pill. ^^"

@cursee Definitely, natural psychedelia like mushrooms creates new synapses in the brain. Weed has cannabinoids which the brain has receptors for. Both actively effect the brain chemistry while on it - being awake while high. This, can of course be used to get creative about problem solving or perceive and tackle mundane tasks in fantastic ways.

@Kyu96 Alcholo goes in the liver because it is basically poison. While getting broken down, it turns to acetaldehyde which.. I'll just leave this quote on the chemical from IARC here:

"one of the most frequently found air toxins with cancer risk greater than one in a million"

DMT or LSD(actual, not derivations or 'lookalikes') does nothing of the sorts. Being mostly psychoactive drugs with no apparent bad effects. People just have to be mentally prepared for it and the effects vary wildly from person to person, even within the same batch.

Idk, I find it exciting. Wishing to only get high once in a while for the fun, not the productivity.

Depends but basically you cant work.

I did everything from weed, xtc to meth.

    Kethaphetamin - cant even move.

I'm a stoner myself and I can agree that weed will wash your brain a bit.

But if you know what you are doing and don't do it like every god damn day, you should be fine.

It also highly depends what you are smoking. Some sativa _can_ also increase productivity, but it usually won't.

So yeah, I mostly smoke on weekends, if work is too stressful I sometimes go home for a break to eat and puff. Hihi
