Wow, I JUST reinstalled my windows VM like a week ago, and it hasn't done anything like this. Knock on wood.

Win 10 now had a pin as a sign in option, but only at the keyboard attached to the system. But it is only option.

You can remove the pin and go back to Password.

Oh that fucken pin. I actually like windows but this pin-thing is fucked up.
If you have a dual boot setup and use the other os regularly, it won't let you login with that pin because "the device was turned off too often. Try again in 2 hours". Of course, you then can use your password, but still - what the fuck.

As @C0D4 stated, the whole idea makes no fucken sense. If you have set up a password, this pin just makes your login process a big mess.

You can also allow other characters in your "pin" making it essentially a password

@nitwhiz It‘s for Windows Hello. I think they have changed the system with 19H1 (Fast ring), so it may make more sense now.

I thought the point is that no one can see your actual password if you open your computer in public. And a less secure password is more acceptable when using it requires physical access.

When you log in with Microsoft account then it's mandatory to have pin so that you don't have to write Microsoft account password every time

@stackiox well to test it just installed windows on my Mac wand both with local and Microsoft accounts had to create a pin

You don’t HAVE to create a pin, and if you do, you can only use it on your system. If some one looks over your shoulder and copies your pin, it won’t work on their system if the try to log into your account. The pin is only validated locally, so yes, it improves security. If I attempt to log in to my account from a public computer, like a library computer, it won't work.

This is why I prefer offline accounts! (Also, protip: install Windows 10 with the April update build ISO and this won't happen. Then, just use wupdate/Windows Insider to bump up to the latest stable build.)

I am beginning to really HATE Microsoft. I don't want hello pin... I don't want any other of their BS related to it. It disappears admin options to turn it off... no matter what you do. Reset the whole damn thing to start over
