I hope one of my 2 daughters go geek on me. I think when she first is going to use a computer, I'll learn her terminal and shell scripting first. Or Go. What would be a good programming language for a toddler?

inkt11668y@kanduvisla I figure JavaScript would be a wise choice. It doesn't require any compiling, and incorporates basic concepts like loops and ifs.
They have toys that motivate kids to code. -
@unfinishedCode hmm, JavaScript seems a good first choice, although I worry about her understanding of prototype delegation or asynchronous coding. But yeah, maybe a for-loop is good to start with.

sp33dsk868yI learned in BASIC with a BASIC stamp robot boe-bot.
But Arduino C is very simple also . -
inkt11668yArduino is very simple programming wise, requires too much setup, for a child. Not only would you have to upload your sketch, but setup all the electronics components too. I could be wrong, it could be right up the child's alley.

I hope your son enjoys it.
I had some great teachers who showed me Python in the first year of my apprenticeship. I loved how fast i could write something that worked and didn't print words or calculate numbers....
It was a "snake" game... i can still execute an use it but i don't like to look at the code :-) -

When i was in (uk) high school i was looking at html source as i was interested in how it all worked and the IT teacher actually said the words " thats just computer speak you'll never understand it and it doesn't mean anything" because of his words i stopped looking into web dev and html until college... i regret listening to him
