Also, going for the lowest bidder is a great way to end up with a pile of unusable crap. Software is not a commodity business.
-
@Devnergy No it's totally possible. Wait for people to be sick of their shitty work and then offer to fix it. It's what I did for the Croatians; it should work for Indians too. The only exception is if they're actually COMPETENT Indians. That's rare, because they cost multiple times what the shitty Indians cost, so most idiot outsourcing managers don't go with them.
-
Oh and I just noticed you said "up work" aka upwork. Fuck if I know man, that place is a race to the bottom. I think the only way out is to transition the clients you have on there to being real life clients and leaving upwork behind.
-
vidu11436y@HollowKitty i am Indian and i have done that too, the difference is the incompetent Indian who coded that code was a 3 year younger me π
-
@vidu For sure. πThere are lots of good Indian devs out there but from what I've seen they don't bill themselves the same way as the outsourcing types do; they just bill themselves as remote devs who happen to be Indian. Some idiot managers seek outsourcing because they think programming is a commodity business and they want to save money. Meanwhile there are a lot of devs around the world who are good, but don't offer a special discount just because of their nationality (and nor should they).
-
vidu11436y@HollowKitty i agree with you, the population bof India and the number of indian cs students is very very very high, and they just take whatever pay the client provide them, which is really really stupid, because I for one won't work for a low cost

@jOkEr-jAsE This sounds like the kinda thing an isolated American manager would dream up. In reality, if you're Indian but fluent enough in English, you can just apply for remote jobs. I have white coworkers living in South Asia and I have Canadian-born coworkers living in South America. If you can communicate in English and are reliable enough to communicate as needed during the work day, a lot of places don't care. If I were someone in a developing country or a developing-ish country trying to work my way up, I'd just say I was working here as a digital nomad or some shit like that.
-
@jOkEr-jAsE If you have clients on upwork your number 1 priority should be getting them off upwork and onto more personal communication with yourself. Sites like upwork are just a race to the bottom.

zoridan6836yOnce a familiar wanted a e-comerce for his store:
- 'Dev, you know how this stuff works, can you do this to me?'
- [polite mode on] 'Sorry, but I have zero experience on that subject. But luky for you, at my place of work, they do this things and probably can do one from 1200€ more or less (prestashop).
- 'That is so expensive Dev, I was hopping that you could do this for me for lets say 300€ and in exchange you will learn how to do it'
- $ sudo apt-get purge polite &
'Sorry, but what make you think that I will do the job for 300€ "In exchange" for a "experience"? I charge you probably the same, and I don't need your "help" to have more experience. This is the phone number of the company'
So, yeah, if they know a "friend" or "comany" who works more cheap, do not came to annoy me and call them. -
@HollowKitty up work = cheapest developer available (usually Indians).
I'm not racist. Just stating facts. Happens to be Indians are the most common. -
Quirinus7526y@HollowKitty I wanna hear this story about Croatians. I'm one, so I want to laugh a bit at my countrymates.
-
eeee31226yThis is like when a friend asks you for a deal on something because of your friendship.
THAT WORKS BOTH WAYS YOU KNOW!!??
Always respond with the opposite deal in your own favour.
I do this as a joke, because it's a real eye opener for many. -
vidu11436y@cst1992 but heah i have seen people s
Do android apps for like 5 bucks, i am an Indian so I know how hard it is to open an Indian's eye, trust me the small workers, or the small business owners with no brand are facing this a lot, people to earn money forget what they can be worth off, and in return causes damage to other people
