What’s your favorite high performance video card for PC gaming for between $250-$300?

I prefer AMD cards. That said, I have an Asus Nvidia GTX 1070. It's not a bad card, but when the Radeon 3080 comes out, I'm going back to AMD. That, and their stock price is doing well, so my stock portfolio isn't looking too shabby.

AMD RX 570 or 580

More seriously: an RTX 2060. I've always been a fan of nVidia because their cards and drivers have always been better. (Linux support not so much, sadly.) But regardless, I'd recommend the 2060. It's a good card, and not too expensive. Might be a little out of your budget, though; I haven't checked prices in awhile.

@Root hmm good point about Linux. At some point I may convert the box from Win to Linux. It’d suck to have to replace the card for that reason.

@stackodev I've personally never had problems with nVidia drivers on linux, but I know a lot of people have.

If you use older drivers that are known to work, you won't have issues. Debian mentality 😋

@Root Every time I’ve tried switching to Linux with nVidia devices, no drivers existed for my particular device. If I got nVidia, I’d be dang sure it has supported Linux drivers. :)

@irene Fair point. It's not powerful enough to actually use raytracing effectively. But it is enough for raytracing on low/medium and that's worth it imo.

@irene Mostly. But it does look very nice in some games like Tomb Raider. Newer titles are going to look substantially better than that, too. Likely titles starting this year. Still worthwhile imo!
