Oldschool ranters from 2005 (if you're even still here), how was DevRant back in the day? What was the differences/similarities? Was it better/worse? How did you discover DevRant (before you googled it)?

Pretty sure devrant was introduced in late 2013 or 2014

@devTea 2015 according to appcelerator site

It was okay, way less memes and more quality rants

@devTea @ganjaman So 33 people were time travelers?

I found it in 2016 from a coworker. It was way better without memes. There was more of a sense of community.

Now all the new people want to farm points from reposting.

    @ganjaman @HampusMa mistakenly remembered 2016 with 2014

@Alice Such a wonderful time we were able to live in! Let's make some cookies to celebrate that.

@devrocket "Amen to that, brother! Now upvote my comment and I'll upvote yours!"

@rutee07 Oh. I forgot that. I guess thats the answer then.

World has changed. Memes and self produced dopamine addiction along with digital vanity have become a thing on almost all social platforms. Devrant is still a cool place to hang out relatively speaking.

DevRant went live in early May 2016
I joined in 3 of June 2016 after reading about it on the next web newssite.

Honestly, I think it stayed meme level wise about the same. Allthough i miss the visible care of dfox and trogus. Like the Podcasts and videoclips. Still i find it awesome that there is every week a new weekly topic. As a designer I've learned so much here about the making of software and devCulture. Invaluable!

@HampusMa ... the 33 does not mean 33 people searched devrant then. It means the search interest at that time was 33% of the maximum search interest within the time window.

Yeah devRant was waayyyy better back in the 90s. You could just use Lynx from a terminal, and for those who didn't even have that, the carrier pidgeon interface was magnificent.

Also, pidgeons were still made out of real stone, and we drank salted coffee because sugar was still made out of salt. Yeah, those were the days.

Back in 2017, the people here where nice, and it wasn't uncommon to have read and commented on every single rant.

I remember checking devrant between classes to read *the* new rant that was posted.

    Fewer idiots
    No spam
    Higher quality rants
    Almost no memes
    More original and intelligent comments

I liked both the users and their content significantly more. It felt like home.

    I miss it.
